I personally don't care for them and turned them off as soon as I figured out how to do it properly.

The realistic handling is my favourite part of this game and the TCS and ASM ruin it. I love finessing a car around a corner or pushing it too hard and spining out. I like the handling as much or more than the graphics

launching the car also takes skill but thats the point of the game, not an arcade!

what are your opinions?

I have much more fun with that stuff off. It slows me down. With the default settings those 'aids' just slow you down! Don't let you slide at all.

I suppose when I get a really powerful car, like one o' them LeMans racers, I may turn the TCS up to its lowest level. Or I may not.

With the way I drive, ASM just means understeer, and there's plenty of that already. I'd rather not suddenly be pitched towards a barrier halfway round a corner.

I usually set TCS to 1, just so I know when the wheels are spinning & I can back off a little. Helps to save tyres.

Well, that might be a stupid question but what TCS and ASM actually stand for?
(i dont even have the GT3 manual to look it up - does anybody if i can find it somewhere?)
And i haven't tried turning them off to see the difference, but i think i will today...

That's interesting DD... I might have to try that approach! I've been having trouble copping-on to wheelspin occasionally in GT3 (most notably in the Skyline @ Trial Mtn - DomA License [?]). All of a sudden it dawns on me that I'm no longer moving forward... and I realise that I've missed some visual clue that spinning started (bear in mind too that I'm a 'chase' view racer - spinning SHOULD be easy to spot... it was in GT2... but it's much harder in GT3).

O/T - 'Chase' view... if I had a penny for every time I've taken off the front wings of my rides I'd have £4.57!!! I miss the 'above & behind' view [sigh].

I use both, only because I have not had the guts to turn it off. But as it sounds I may have better results with it off???....I do run with it on so far, but generally at a lower setting for each. (Also, I havent driven anything over 500HP yet, so it should be ineresting to see the effects of taking TCS and ASM...Will try it tonight

TCS is Traction Control (system)

ASM is Active Stability Management- it will break one wheel independantly of the others to correct an oversteer stiuation- too much yaw ie. it makes it harder to spin out.

How can you take it off??? I took it off from the opions menu and it still is active. In arcade mode its not on at all, I can burn those tires with the Team Oreca Viper in 3rd gear, but in simulation mode, no luck.
Id like to take them both off, I liked the "free" feel of gt2. So far its my only gripe of the best game ever!
Please tell me how I can run around this thing so I can enjoy the game

In simulation mode you have to go into the change settings screen before a race (where you would change spring rates etc). go to the final tab on the right which deals with downforce and computer controls.

here you will see that one is 10 and one is 5
put em at 0 of course !

you have to do this for each car you have which is a real pain but thats the way it is. I guess the options screen one just turns it of for arcade.

I've always used it up to now because I, like some of the others, have felt no need to turn it off. BUT...hearing your testimonies of it's worthlessness, I too will try racing with it off.

On a side note, God I love this board! I check here many times a day and usually find a lot of helpful advice. You guys are all great fun. Thanks a lot.

I set both to low. I noticed over at the GTF a thread complaining about how all the cars in GT3 are understeering, and I think these electronic "aids" and their default setting are the reason why

I turn ASM off on every car -- understeer is evil -- and doing so improves my average lap time 2+ seconds on most courses.

My TCS settings vary depending on the car and how uncoordinated I am at driving it.

Nah, most of mine understeer with no ASM. Either that or they eat front tyres when I set them up neutrally.
