FWIW, most of the folks around here, are among the most straight-forward/honest people I've met (met some in person for that matter). So I don't think you'll run into many people here, spouting off stuff that didn't happen. There's "other" forums out there, that you have to take every post with a grain of salt.

This forum is sodium free.

That 300mph TVR, I wont beleve without a pic, sory, I know this is a good site for people being honest and all, but This is a TOP SPEED thread, and Im sure there will be some BS posted, I want the facts, so if no pic, Post your time anyway, but it will not be noted or recognized as an "Official" Top Speed (official.....we all know what I mean), until a pic proves it. (If you dont got a digital get a 5$ disposable camera, and use it whenever you get called out by a jerk like me.

I'm not trying to be provocative or derisory here but can someone please explain to me why there is a certain section of the gaming community that is obsessed with this "Top Speed" malarkey?

It has very little to do with either driving or racing (a bit like NASCAR really ) and, as it's a video game, neither does it have anything of value in proving how 'brave' you are.

I am genuinely puzzled.

Anyhow, as ever when such a thread pops up:

145mph ... on one wheel (the back one of course) ... GSX 750 R. Ah, not really applicable here ... RL rather than OLR LOL.

Dude, this is a game to push the cars to the MAX, so getting a sick fast speed is cool, and its just another way to apreciate the game. Why If you dont like or understand do you need clairification? I dont ask old ladies why they like to knit, or watch soaps (to me its pointless BS) I dont ask them why they like it, or ask a videogame junkie why he spends so much time paying PS2. You cant figure out that diferent things interest diferent people? You actually need someone to explaine it?

One of the small benefits of being English 'Mich, is that we can take a comforting delight in being well mannered in the face of ignorant rudeness .

You’re the puzzled one instigating a response of that nature with your ridiculous post, if you feel it’s rude or ignorant, it is only a result of your own ignorant post.

And to have the audacity to try and point at me to say I’m being rude? On top of that you think your British society is more polite then the world.

Sigh…………It’s a pity you, cant bloody understand Americans will stand up and call out the ignorant (such as yourself)

Your original post was looking for trouble (even if it was sugar coated)

You got treated as you deserved to get treated (And I wasn’t that rude at all)

If you don’t want a fight don’t look for it, try applying that logic, and you won’t find yourself in this situation again by your own doing.

Good sense of humour too.

A calmer riposte would've been better don't you think?

As a matter of fact, I wasn't looking for a fight, although, yes, it can be interpreted that I was gently poking fun at the focus that some players place on having the most horse-power, fastest speed, longest drift etc.

Anyhow, I don't want to antagonise you any more, after all, you might actually be a perfectly nice chap whose having a bad day.

True.

Sorry for poaching, P2.

In my defence it was only a very gentle tease and I really did want to know why people who buy a driving simulator supposedly about GT racing would be at all interested in how fast they can go in a straight line.

I actually expected to get a few humerous bites from the NASCAR gibe (which was intended as a joke by the way (even tho' I'm afraid I do hate NASCAR in reality)). But none of our resident 'circle racers' appeared to be looking in this thread ...

A-ha!

A response!

Aw, it's an intelligent one :sulks:.

I'm afraid to say that Lady S is in your camp, 'Mich. That means that I too get to watch the delights of a stack of cars taking the same two corners for a hundred laps ... except when they have to stop because of some infraction/failure/advert .

Anyhow, you mean to say that there really are other forms of motorsport other than GT racing !?

I'm shocked that I never noticed.

I mean I have noticed those poor, battered cars on the tele occaisionally. You know those ones with no rooves or wheel-arches (or doors now I come to think of it) ... what is that called now ... er ... ummm ... oh yes, F1 Processional ... or was it Parade? (or something like that LOL).

:sound of Bianchi Spas 12 being cocked: - you know what for ... :glowers:.

Sock Or? What's that? Checks history books to discover where the game of Football was derived. Oh, it seems to have been England; fancy that! Does that mean we get to decide what it's called then? :rasp:.

I'll have to get my 1886 Benz out of the garage and see how fast it goes.

First I'll drink a strong cup of tea, ram my bowler hat down firmly on my head to stop it flying off and then try not to mow down the gentleman carrying the red flag.

The whole of the world calls football "football" except for two little countries, Australia and the USA. And Aussie rules football is even more strange than American football. Besides we invented our version first. So there

Tsk ... and I thought Canadians were nice people too ... I even want to go and live there.

For the record, we do try to speak English but unfortunately we've found that our language is actually full of Latin, Saxon, Greek, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Indian, Polynesian et al.

That makes things a little difficult when trying to keep English a commonly understood tongue amongst those nations built by people who left here a long time ago ("Colonials" as we like to call them )

I'm quite slow:
BEST SO FAR...
230 mph in a Skyline R34 GT-R N1
Fully tuned, no nitro/NOS
I'm not all about speed though. Just good old racing, no breakneck speeds around a circle track.

For what it's worth...

300.86 mph in a no-holds barred highly modfied TVR Speed 12 (on about my 4th guess at which settings would be fastest). There is room for improvement, but I'll settle for getting a production car over 300mph as my silly achievement of the day.

Best I managed was admittedly on the Mulsanne straight which is not the best place to try for speed due to the slightly undulating nature of the track... its well bumpy!! I used the Nissan R92CP with full upgrades and some increased flow to the Nitrous. I managed 487 km/h and, for those like me that prefer their speeds in plain English (!) that is around 302 mph. The full lap was under 3 minutes and I have a replay. Needless to say it was on the Japanese version of GT4.

I was using the top speed test on the test track in the 'power and speed' section.

Mods to the TVR were fairly obvious: qualifying tyres, supercharger, ride height down to minimum, springs harder, toe in to zero, all driver aids off, nitrous adjusted for most power/least time, gearbox setting were done with auto then tweaked final to give 300-ish at redline in 6th (which, incidentally takes 6th gear totally off to the right of the graph!). The only oddity was an aftermarket wing to allow downforce to be set as low as I dared (1 at front, 10 at rear). The only hard part is timing the nitrous to best effect, I was very lucky with this on my 300+ run, reached top speed yard before the end of the track, on the last drop of nitrous.

I've been quietly enjoying the witty banter that's been flowing through this thread.

I think the introduction of nitrous oxide has cheapened the top speed debate. In previous versions of GT my side hobby was competing against myself, trying to set my fastest top speed on the test track by ways of tuning. Imagine to my surprise that I could easily surpass my best tunes in GT3 by using crap settings and a lot of Nitrous!!! Oh well. I'm still having fun and expect my top speeds to be around the higher 290s (I'm only 8% into the game as I don't have much time to play and my selection of cars has been conservative) lower 300s. I've tuned crappy little Honda CRX Sirs into the 250mph range!! lol

Pescarolo C60: 312.26 mph (502,52 km/h)
R92CP : 307.47 mph (494,82 km/h)

I have photographic proof if needed
