**** BREAKING NEWS! ****

This just in:

Gran Turismo 4 player "Zardoz", known for his wordy, bombastic posts on numerous GT4 forums, has announced that he has performed his first 2,160-degree spinout on a GT4 track.

The milestone was achieved on the Sarth II track as he was testing a BMW McLaren F1 GTR. It occurred just before the high-speed right turn that leads into the famous Indianapolis corner as Zardoz lost control of the touchy machine after letting it drift slightly off the pavement.

The car began a slow spin to the right as Zardoz tried to steer into it, but the car instantly snapped around to the left and began the series of spectacular gyrations, ending up back on the pavement facing the correct way on the course. The replay confirmed that no contact was made with the barrier walls.

"That's the first-ever for me", said the grizzled Gran Turismo veteran. "I'm sure that's the first sixer I've ever had. No surprise that I did it in that POS. It gives you no slack at all. One little screw-up and it just takes your head clean off."

Zardoz, known thoughout the Gran Turismo world for his admiration of Japanese car racing console game developers, vowed that the frightening incident would not sour him on the car.

"Hey, they can't all be like Pescarolos, you know. We've got to have some cars like the McLaren to keep us from getting lazy."

I'm glad you said that or else I'd still be here trying to work out how many revolutions that was!

@Littleg - ROFL.

Impressive spinning, Z

The best I managed was an uncounted number of spins down the back straight of the 'Ring after a bad case of lift-off oversteer (trying not to run into the back of the pace car). The only thing of note about the incident was that I managed to keep the car on the track and still passed the test .

Last night I was puttering about and thought for a lark I would see what top speed my Minolta could manage (it has 11000+ miles from endurance races on it) I twiddled a bit and had it up to 260 mph (no laughing gas installed)

I twiddled some settings and took another go. I was getting up to 265 in the turn, then suddenly my view was of the sky... I got to watch the sky for a second or two, and then the front came down and the car got tossed about and started spinning around several times. I just waited for it to stop the spinning.

When the car came to a rest, I was facing inside looking backwards... I turned the car around the right way, and stomped on the gas. I managed to peg a top record of 278 mph. (I later beat that by a single mile per hour).

Bob the B-Spec driver came screaming out of the bar and really started yelling at me! Yakking about scratching his baby all up, but you know, I looked and couldn't even see a scratch or a dent in it or even the tarmac...

Upon review of the replay, I counted 9 and a third turns during the spinout, and suprisingly, no barrier contact (even though I was only about 2 or 3 feet away from the outside barrier when the car first left the ground...)

All in all, the spinout was much more fun than any stinking top speed number!

Nine loops! Cool!

The McLaren was going about 220 when my spin started. Maybe I'll get NOS for it and see if I can get it to 260 or so and see if I can at least top my record of six. Nine will tough, though!

Just a thought... Low grip economy tires may help to keep the spins coming. ("Hey, Bob, pass me the K-Mart Plastic Tires, I'm going for a spin.")

You got that right! Except the event of race being on the line. I did a similar stunt in my Lotus Esprit when the Mazda 787B seemed to not like me passing him. I caught up and won the race last turn, last lap. One of my best times in GT4 so far

Yeah, it makes the win much more sweeter when it includes a recovery from near disaster.

Shhhh, don't tell PD.
GT5 missions: Wait on the grid at Suzuka for 2 mins. Start, head for the 1st corner, and the leading AI catches you & shunts you into the sand. You now have 2 laps to take the lead & win....

Aw, they'll figure out ways to annoy us much better than anything we could suggest!

Like real life damage modeling. "You totalled your car, had to pay salvage yard to remove it. Your B-Spec driver is crippled, and suing you. Half your team is walking out, as you can't afford to pay their wages. Oops, your garage burnt down due to oil rags in the corner. Insurance not up to date: no payment. Oops, your bank account got cleaned out by your wife as she runs off with the gardener...

Correct! "Banned from Arcade and Replay Theatre for disorderly conduct after getting sloshed on cheap beer purchased with money earned from selling photo gear and all the records from the jukebox..."

That should about sew things up!
