Apparently, a lot of formerly secret traffic workarounds have become a lot less secret and useful due to Waze:

Boo hoo.

You can't possibly live near an arterial highway like the 405 or 101 and think that there won't be people trying to use side streets to avoid the hassle of the freeway. That's just naivete at the highest level.

I don't need no stinking apps to find secret traffic workarounds. Actually the only app I use is google map with traffic.

Good thing I'm not a total dick, or I'd talk about how I actively make my commute longer in order to get the engine up to operating temparature.

Killeen said her four-mile commute to UCLA, where she teaches a public relations class, can take two hours during rush hour.
Nope.

Four miles in two hours? Time to get something two wheeled, or freaking walk.

It's not actually all that tough to walk 4 miles in 1 hour. It's a bit of a brisk walking pace but it's not exactly freaky speed walking. Might get a little sweaty though.

We walk the dog two miles every night through some of the roughest hills in town and it takes us 35 minutes. On even somewhat flat land, 4mph is not an issue.
