Android stuff that's not necessarily phone, tablet, TV or wear related, since we have other threads for those.

Today, Fellowship of the Ring (HD) is available for free, at least in the U.S. from the Google Play store.

In UK and Italy (no idea about the rest of Europe) instead Sherlock Holmes (HD) is the free movie on the Play Store.
A simple reminder: Google Movie movies (duh) even if in HD, do display in HD only when played on tablet, phablet, smartphones or through a Chromecast; over a PC/Mac they will always be in SD.
Sucks, but that's Google decision.

So that's why Wreck It Ralph was in 480p. Good to know.

That's rather annoying. I assume that you don't have to deal with that nonsense if you have a Kindle Fire.

I got Endomondo Sports Tracker PRO and Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary, 8th edition. Considering a few others.

Yes, unfortunately. But, I don't ever download anything else from "unknown sources" so I haven't had to worry about it for awhile. And no, you don't have to do that on the Kindle.

Whoops, I didn't see your comment. Sorry. Some of them are good. They are running it again (http://smile.amazon.com/b/ref=lp_10076151011_gb1h_tit_c-4_5202_98fa37aa?rh=i%3Amobile-apps%2Cn%3A10076151011%2Cn%3A10076151011&ie=UTF8&node=10076151011&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER) today. (with different games/apps) They're not as good this time. Except for Monopoly, Angry Birds SW II, Fruit Ninja... not familiar with the others.

Today, Microsoft announced that it is expanding its Office for Android beta. Now, you can install it on any 7-10" ARM-based tablet running KitKat or higher. You don't even need an invite anymore.

Android TV (http://www.theverge.com/2014/4/5/5584604/this-is-android-tv) sounds like it will be good. It would be nice for things to move from TV to TV with my google account. And my phone/watch could be used to control channels and such.

Sony TVs go flatter, 4K and Android-powered at CES 2015 (http://www.cnet.com/news/sony-tvs-go-flatter-4k-and-android-powered/)

All of the Sony TVs announced at CES 2015 feature a Smart TV system powered by Android TV. We got some hands-on time with an early version at Sony's booth, and in most ways it's identical to what we saw on the Google Nexus Player.
