Exact Audio Copy (http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/) seems to be the tool of choice for ripping to FLAC. Any tips or tricks? Or is it pretty easy once you get the thing set up and going?

Is there a similar go-to utility for managing track names/album data/etc. for CDs that don't have that set correctly by the manufacturer? MediaMonkey, perhaps?

I haven't ripped anything in quite a while but when I did, I used EAC and found it pretty easy to use.

EAC supports freedb. Did you configure it to use freedb? Out of the hundreds of CD's I have, I only had a few that I had to enter manually back when I ripped them all. I do recall finding some bad spellings or various lazy people not doing a good job on the track names and having to fix a few but not too bad.

Monkey's Audio gets better compression than FLAC, but it isn't supported by many portable devices that I know of and FLAC is. Monkey's Audio is mostly PC only.

I think I used CDEx as I was lazy.

I use MP3 Tag for stuff that doesn't have the meta data automatically populated. As for the ripping aspect, Ive used EAC for years. One you have your base settings (most of the time default will work for 90% of the world), it's point and shoot.

With MP3 Tag, you can set it up to batch/automate the Metadata import, or, you can just do it manually (my preference, choosing better cover art, etc).

Having done it about 1000 times, it's almost sub-conscious now.
