Well, that was fun :-)

It was great to meet up with harper and see the show together, really cool. I sadly had to leave at lunchtime, so I hope that harper can post some more pics later, as I didn't get that many.

You can look through more pics and see larger resolutions here - https://plus.google.com/photos/110971171497128646652/albums/6103730890111443297?authkey=CPfPpoyA-sfC-wE

The first theme, predictably, was the Toyobaru twins.

This is the most awesome thing I saw - the JUN / Synergy V8 swap. Not just any V8, no, but a custom 2.4L piece that's lighter than the stock engine, pairs two motorbike heads with a custom block, and puts out 367hp at 10,680rpm:

According to the (english speaking) rep on the stand, apparently it's a two-day job to fit, it just bolts in without any cutting and hooks up to the OEM gearbox. The guy reckoned on 3,000 mile oil changes, maybe 30-60k miles before an 'inspection' (presume possibly overhaul). I didn't ask the price, but it does sound like a truly awesome trackday car!

On the official Toyota stand, we found a rally car - not sure what class this is prepared for but the idea is very cool, as are the wheels:

Widebody car that's been on Speedhunters, pretty awesome to see in the metal:

HKS demo car, love the wheels/fitment on this:

I don't normally care for bodykits on FDs, but this looked amazing in the flesh, so characterful and exciting to look at.

Looks like an Audi A7 with a bodykit meant to look like a Lamborghini Evoque.

I'm pulling my photos in now. It was great to meet up, chat about cars and Japan, and see the enormous show floor. Speedhunters' write-up said that 310,000 people went through the Makuhari Messe show floors during the weekend (I'm jealous that it looks like their photographer was there on Friday when it was empty -- it was PACKED by noon on Saturday!). After going to Makuhari for Tokyo Game Show back in September (https://www.flickr.com/photos/dougbonham/sets/72157647528487648/) I thought I knew what to expect, but my god, they fill the place up so much more. Plus, they used more space than TGS did too -- and all space taken up by cars!

The one thing that Tom really missed out: I wandered out to part of the parking lot, where they'd roped off a small closed course for a suite of demonstration runs. A couple of the Option TV/D1GP hosts were showing off luxury sports cars, there was a D1GP drift exhibition too, but what I saw was really cool: demo runs by a Super Formula car and Toshi Arai in his Group N Subaru rally car. Having those rip by our faces even at a low clip was thrilling, and Arai really wrung the Subaru out. (He also had the Super Formula driver riding shotgun, and the host was worried he was alright!)

Sounds like you both had a great time. The only show I've ever been to was London's, and as I was with some non-car people I didn't get to spend the time that I'd wanted to there. Tokyo would always be more up my street anyway.

Liberty Walk also had a killer Dodge Challenger (http://news.boldride.com/2015/01/liberty-walk-widebody-dodge-challenger-is-pure-muscle/67802/) at this years TAS:
