View Full Version : List of six-speed sedans?

I am going to be in the market for a used sedan in 2016. The only requirements are sedan body and six-speed manual like the Honda Civic SI sedan.

Hit me! :toast:

Chevy Cruze as well, though it might be too plebeian for your tastes.

Any other requirements than 6-speed and sedan? Size? Fuel economy? Price range? Age range? Ten years ago "6 speed" was kinda special, but these days most manuals are six speeds, and upper-end cars have all been 6-speeds for a decade.

Let me think on this -- firstly, any beigemobile is in the running.

Also, something that could be found use in the sub-$10K USD range. :D

Right....pre 2015 was only STI, so if you want an older used sedan, you'd have to get an STI

Very sadly, this is no longer true. :(

Oh wait, we're talking used. Nevermind. I believe the Fusion had a 6spd between 2010 and 2014. Good luck finding many though. If you snag a 2013 or 2014, you will be my hero... Way over 10k, I know.

Actually that is precisely why he got it. It has LATCH, kids seat fits easily in the back, suicide doors grant easy access. I think his girl is five now.

novicius

Kids booster seats, maybe -- having logged hours of seat time in the back of Bochawa's Fly Yello RX-8 last decade, there's no way a rear-facing baby seat would work back there.

Nah, no RX-8's. ;)

The 2010 Legacy had a 6-speed. And is probably closer to your price range. ;)

If you want more go-fast options... The Evo VIII had a 6-speed. (If you can find one) Or a CTS-V Wagon. :rawk:

Run from BMW... Just my advice.

I'd recommend a Volvo S40/60. I have been eyeing them on a regular basis. I think I really want an S60R, or even a V70R. The biggest issue with them is the angle gear selector, not cheap to fix, and can be fairly common if you drive hard.

By 2016 you should be able to get a Fiesta ST for about what you want to spend. A regular Focus is there too. G35/G37? Any of the current crop of Korean cars (~'10+) with a manual will be a 6-speed - Elantra, Soul, Veloster, etc. TDI Sportwagen? Matrix and Vibe were both 6-speeds. Probably Corollas too. I think the Regal was available with a 6-speed, maybe some of the other turbobuicks.

If you go for a 9-3, I would stay aware from the '06 and earlier cars. The fiber optic dashes can be a pain and are expensive to replace. I'd stick to the '07+ cars. I'd also probably avoid the V6 models if you can. Although it's a stellar engine, it's a bitch to work on and really doesn't offer *that* much over the four cylinder. And the 4-pot is an Ecotec, precursor to the LNF. Great motor. If you don't mind *some* maintenance headaches (namely, some parts availability), they are a superb value. My RX8 owning friend actually got it to replace a 2003 9-3 Aero 6M that got wrecked. We tracked that thing at Buttonwillow on Hoosiers and it was loads of fun.

You know, in a couple years, I wouldn't be surprised to find first gen CTS-Vs down there too. I'd buy another one. :)

A Mazdaspeed3 drivetrain swap into a Mazda5 is pretty simple, from what I've heard. I think one of the car magazines did one as a project car a few years ago.

I agree with TSG on sticking with 2007+ for 9-3's, but not the engine choice. I've had both, and the 2.8l V6 is wonderful. An ECU tune-only (no parts upgrades) have given me 50,000+ trouble-free miles with 335hp and 410lb-ft. The V6 runs like it's on a stroll through a park, while the 4-pot would have to be SERIOUSLY strained to reliably make those numbers. I'd love to have a stockpile of these motors.

Weren't they only used from 03-06? He could go for a 02-earlier one, if so. When I was in the market, I remember trying to avoid those as well.

Why not just get the 1029hp Honda Odyssey (http://hondamotorsport.com/bisimoto-honda-odyssey-appears-top-gear-usa/)? ;)

I saw one of those Mazda 5 wagons (or is that a van?) on the road today and thought of this thread. Those must be rare as I don't recall seeing many, if any, around before. It looked like something I could use, and probably even put bicycles inside instead of strapping them to the trunk of my Accord. The only thing that looked strange were the ultra-low-profile tires like a sports car would have and how low the vehicle is to the road. I figured the white one in the picture above was lowered and had aftermarket wheels and tires in a +1 or +2 setup but after seeing one in person today, perhaps that is the stock setup.

George

I'll take one, if I can get it with steel wheels, beauty rings, dog-dish hubcaps, 70-series redline tires, and at least 3" between the top of the tires and the fenders. Gotta have room for snow tires and mild off-roading & snow dune bustin'.

2004 Audi Allroad wagon 2.7T Quattro 6-Speed $3000 (http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/ctd/4858411357.html)
tempting if it had the operating costs of a Japanese engineered car.

I am still irked that you could get the 6-speed in the Allroad 2.7t but not the regular Avant 2.7t. That's bullshit.

But, the A6 2.7t S-line 6-speed is a pretty nice car - a friend has one and it's held up pretty well. Lots of not-cheap stuff to hose you, but it's a lot of car for the money.
