I don't know how kosher it is to discuss these things among the people here, but here's a thread anyway. Bear in mind I already own original copies of any game I discuss here.

So anyway, I came back to Dolphin for no reason yesterday, I found that the latest builds (I'm running 4.0-5279 [link (https://dolphin-emu.org/download/dev/43036af944e706ac38821561c2f3333a500e63f6/)]) can run both Twilight Princess for GCN and SW Rogue Leader very smoothly on good hardware.

Rogue Leader has been problematic, and it's only in the last two months that they've got it going. It runs okaaaay on my humble laptop, if you can handle 50% speeds and borked audio. Keep in mind that the last time I tried Rogue Squadron on Project64 it still wouldn't run! That company had some weird game engine stuff going on.

Twilight Princess runs absolutely wonderfully. I've even had to frame limit the title to stop it clocking too fast. There were huge issues when the game had to process the rather large Hyrule Field, which got worse as the game progressed and more of it was unlocked. Now it's 30fps all day long. In whatever HD resolution you can muster!

It'll even do stereoscopic 3D, which I've tested briefly, in exchange for a big performance hit. Imagine that. Oh yeah, and I'm using a Dual Shock 4 to play them so it's fully like current-gen shit, bro.

I love emulators!

Anyway, onto some eye candy. And if you think these look just as good as you remember them on their native hardware, go dig out your Gamecube with its SD resolution and see what it looks like on an HDTV. I dare you!

I was really into emulators not all that long ago - mostly for the '80s nostalgia rather than current generation stuff. I imagine nostalgia comes in waves, and it makes me happy to hear they are already emulating modern platforms - in five years when all the Xs and PSs are no longer functioning, the PC can still be a fall back.

I was thinking of the '80s arcade emulators when I saw this thread title. I remember I used to have something installed on a computer long ago called MAME - or maybe that was the file types that it played, I don't remember - and I could download just about every '70s & '80s quarter arcade game ever. I remember really enjoying a simple football game, where you could pass or run and when someone tried to tackle the ball carrier, you'd shake the joystick back and forth (or hit whatever buttons on a PC keyboard with MAME) to shake him off. It was so simple, yet addictive to me at the time.

I'll have to try that with our PS1. It's in the basement hooked up to an old CRT TV currently. There are a few games my son and I enjoy playing - Jet Moto, some kind of off-road ATV racing, Tony Hawk skating (which is hilarious since neither of us has a clue about what buttons to press), and similar racing kind of games that are more "arcade-style" than realistic simulators. I need to break out GT and GT2 one of these days. I hid them on a high shelf when he was a little tyke and prone to scratching up CDs & DVDs.

MAME was pretty sweet (and that was the name of the emulator) - we had a four player arcade cabinet at MySpace running MAME.

I recently tried to get FF7 and Parappa the Rapper working on a PSX emulator but had pretty limited success with both.

I've had limited success getting Playstation emus to work. Nintendo ones always do a lot better.

Getting a working BIOS for a PS2 system is a headfuck that's best not spoken of here.

Anyone know why the PS emulators are always so rough? I remember the commercial emulator Bleem and all the difficulties it had.

I've been playing the shit out of Twilight Princess again :)

Just beat the temple under Lake Hylia. I want to call it the Water Temple but it's not called that. Blast from the past.

Oh, now I remember what killed my emulator excitement the last time - I was playing the original Shenmue on a Dreamcast emulator when it just wiped out all my savegames. Apparently a known bug. That was pretty much enough to take the wind out of my sails.
