This render just floated down my FB feed. Might as well start collecting them in one spot.

Epicly fake and inevitably inaccurate, but sexy none the less.

Looks like simply a Mid-Engine version of the C7.

Yes and there will be many more fake renders to come -- just figured to start a thread to compile them in.

Yeah, it has the ZR1 badge on it, so my assumption is that it's actually someone's attempt at the mid-engined C7 ZR1, which rumors say will absorb much of the development time/cost for the C8. But Carlo loves speculating :)

You say that like it's a bad thing -- speculation is all part of the hobby and doesn't need to be ridiculed.

I didn't say it like it was a bad thing, I was saying it matter of factly. The rendering is not at all accurate or official in anyway, but you know that and you don't mind. That's why I didn't bother trying to point out all the flaws originally of why it wasn't even a C8 rendering attempt, rather a C7 ZR1, because that's not the point, and I knew it wasn't your point.

Sad, little man

So basically it will look like an Elise? :assclown:

Is there any actual truth behind a mid engined C8? I feel like there have been rumors for 20 years now of the Corvette going mid engine.

Kchrpm

This time those rumors are totally true, though! TOTALLY TRUE.

There was a weird mule spotted, that's about the only "truth" to this rumor.

More renders for what they think the C8 will look like are on C&D as well.

Twenty? Try going on 50! It all started with the development of the c3 and the aerovette

Pretty sure those C&D pics are of the new SSR II.

A mid engined corvette isn't a corvette.

Neither is one with a V8, but whaddayagonnado?

The Vette is already front/ midship, so it's already technically mid engined.

Kchrpm
July 17th, 2015, 06:58 PM
Eh, the engine is still in front of the driver, changing that would require some major architecture changes.

I was under the impression that between the axles was considered a sort of mid. Hence front/ midship.

Kchrpm
July 17th, 2015, 09:10 PM
Yes, but when a person says they want a mid-engined car, or a car is called just mid-engined, they almost always mean between the axles with the driver in front of the engine.

If you sit on top of the engine, that's technically mid-engined.

But a Toyota Tarago isn't exactly a sportscar.

I get his point. Corvettes should be convertible front engines inline sixes only if you don't believe in progress.

thesameguy

Indeed. Hampering America's Sports Car with what was done 60 years ago makes zero sense. Do what is necessary to make it the best at what it purports to do.

Kchrpm

Right now the Corvette is best served by being front-engined, rear wheel drive and pushrod V8 powered. I don't really see that changing in the near future.

If the rumors are true and GM is trying to expand the Corvette brand to compete both with high-end pony cars and with world class supercars, they can't keep it front-engined. You are never going to have the dynamic capabilities of a mid-engined car no matter how far back the front engine is. Hard to believe in this climate that GM would want to break up their market, but it sure seems like we're going to have two Corvettes in the near future.

I don't think they are, though. This is the same reason people have always given, the only official support for this from GM was Zora talking about having big block, AWD, mid-engined cars in the 60s or 70s if they wanted to be the fastest car in the world. Now being the fastest car in the world involves having 1000+ hp and costing millions of dollars.

Exactly. Maybe some skunkworks program is making crazy bullshit, but this is mostly just news sites masturbating all over themselves just for hits.
