Kotaku has a great breakdown of where Nintendo is now, where they have been before, and where they could go in the future.

Nintendo Prepares for Big Loss, Wii U Is to Blame (http://news.softpedia.com/news/Nintendo-Prepares-for-Big-Loss-Wii-U-Is-to-Blame-417919.shtml)

Video game hardware maker and game publisher Nintendo announces that it is forecasting a loss of 25 billion yet, about 240 million dollars (165 million Euro) for the fiscal year, most of it linked to the underperforming Wii U.

Initially, the company expected to make a profit for the 12-month period that ends in March, but it also expected to sell 9 million home consoles. The current estimate (http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/pdf/2014/140117e.pdf) sits at just 2.8 million Wii U units delivered to gamers and even that might be optimistic.

Satoru Iwata, the president of Nintendo, says that the company can recover in the near future.

I think the name "Wii U" was a huge mistake. Every time I hear it come up in casual conversation, most people think its just a "Wii" thing, or the controller or whatever. And when they hear its a different system the reaction is kind of "eh" or negative period. I have to wonder what would have happened if Nintendo used a different name, and went with more aggressive marketing before Xbone and PS4 dropped.

I think marketing was a much bigger mistake than the name, XBox One is just as confusing but if you stick enough ads in everyone's face they understand.

http://mynintendonews.com/2014/01/18/project-cars-dev-says-wii-u-version-is-looking-extremely-promising/

I literally just had a blast racing around one of our tracks in the rain (the most graphically-intensive weather setting) and it held up pretty damn well. Of course there are optimisations still to be done but side-by-side, the Wii U version we have running in the studio is extremely promising.

Please be great, please be great, please be great...

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2013/12/november-sales-data-shows-a-worrying-lack-of-momentum-for-the-wii-u/

The Wii U looks set to be one of the rare counterexamples to this trend. The system sold roughly 200,000 fewer units this November than it did after its launch last November, even though it was only available on US store shelves for 13 days of November 2012. Nintendo will need to see yet another heavy month-to-month sales increase to even match the 890,000 total systems it sold in November and December of last year. If it can't, it will be in the company of negative holiday momentum counterexamples like the Nintendo Gamecube and the Sega Dreamcast, which both went on to become mere footnotes in the business history of their console generations (the original Xbox, which was barely able to eke out a sales increasing in its second holiday season, could be included in this analysis).

emphasis mine.

Wii U is heading to the same fate as the GameCube and Dreamcast. It won't kill Nintendo, but I've heard they're ramping up R&D now...I wouldn't be surprised if we heard about a new console of some kind from Nintendo in 2015.

If this is a 10-year or longer console cycle like some have said that Sony/MS want to make it, and they can do it right, a second bite at the apple *might* not be a certain failure. *Might*

http://kotaku.com/gamestop-is-canceling-watch-dogs-wii-u-pre-orders-this-1508273787

What we do know is that GameStop will still let consumers pre-order Watch Dogs for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game is still even available for Wii U on GameStop's website, but our source explained that stores in the U.S. have been instructed to tell customers who pre-ordered the game on Wii U to shift their pre-order to something else or to have it cancelled.

More bad news...

Tokyo (AFP) - The head of Nintendo said Wednesday he would slash his salary in half after announcing a 30 percent dive in nine-month profit on weak demand for its new Wii U console as gamers are enticed by cheap, downloadable games for mobiles.
President Satoru Iwata told reporters he would draw a reduced salary for five months to atone for the downturn, while other members of the board will take a pay cut of between 20 and 30 percent.
When asked if his pay cut could extend beyond June, Iwata said: "I will make a decision after looking at the management situation at that time."
Nintendo is due to hold an analyst conference Thursday to outline plans for a new business strategy.
The news comes just over a week after the Kyoto-based company shocked investors by warning it expects to slip back into the red in the year to March and slashed its Wii U sales forecast owing to weaker-than-expected holiday season demand.
Analysts have criticised the system's limited game selection, as rivals Sony and Microsoft enjoy robust demand for their new PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles.
"Nintendo's worse-than-expected performance is mainly due to a slump in the Wii U," said Hideki Yasuda, a games analyst at Ace Securities in Tokyo.
"They haven't released attractive games titles which slammed the brakes on console sales. Also, its rivals have seen strong demand for their consoles which is taking market share away from Nintendo."

There was a LOT of hype around xbone and PS4 - it's gotta be hard to gain momentum with those two standing in your way.

Also, I think the initial popularity followed by serious doldrums with the Wii really hurt the market for the U. I know lots of people who bought Wiis early on only to end up having them sit around collecting dust. None of us even considered buying a U. I think Nintendo mistook the early-on brand goodwill for general goodwill. A different name probably would have helped distance the Gen2 console from the original, and possibly resulted in a higher interest level. "A new product from Nintendo" earns a lot more interest than "another console that will bankrupt you with accessories you'll only use with games you only play once." Also, I gotta believe the magic of the Wii - casual games - was ripped to shreds with Kinect and mobile games. You can only win with secret sauce once. After it's not secret anymore, you need new sauce. Now that everyone has motion-controlled games, what - exactly - is the U's promise? (I think the answer might be some interesting titles, but from what I can see not system-selling titles.)

Kchrpm
January 29th, 2014, 07:29 PM
Motion controlled games was never the Wii Us big bet, but they haven't done a great job advertising what it is.

They just announced tonight that they will be focusing advertising on the GamePad and clarifying that it's not just a Wii accessory. Hopefully it's not just more stuff that's just directed at kids convincing their parents.

They also said that they're going to have DS games on the Virtual Console, improve the power on to playing game time (they're going to stick a menu in before the whole OS loads that let's you pick your game), that they will license their characters more and that they will have some kind of smartphone apps, but probably not games or even mini games.

I don't know why I didn't think to do this before, but last night I walked Circuit of the Americas on the Wii U's Street View "game". The distance wasn't exactly right with the lack of elevation changes among other issues, but it's an interesting use at least.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/03/13/wii-u-sales-outpacing-playstation-4as-in-japan

In their respective first three weeks, the Wii U sold about 560,000 in Japan, and the PS4 sold about 410,000. Apparently the issue is lack of PS4 exclusive games, and maybe low stock.

I really haven't logged in under my account in forever. If I ever do play. It's usually with my kids on Lego Marvel or New Super Mario as (player 2).

Why is it that Xbox is the only console that lets players 2-3-4 log on with their system ID? I'd like to get credit for when I play when I'm playing as (player 2)

Update: Hold up! Wii U owners in North America don't get to pick from one of 10 free games: they can only choose from four. The titles on offer in the US are New Super Mario Bros. U, Pikmin 3, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, and Wii Party U.

European customers, however, get to choose one game from the list of ten below when they purchase a copy of Mario Kart 8.

There's 10 to choose from as part of the impressive promotion, with some obvious winners (Wind Waker HD) and losers (Sonic Lost World) in the list:

Nintendo Land
New Super Mario Bros. U
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
Game & Wario
Pikmin 3
The Wonderful 101
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD
Sonic Lost World
Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games
Wii Party U

I think I want a Wii U. I need to play Mario games. Also, Mario Kart 8 is out soon, and a UK retailer are doing a MK8 pack for £200 - with a free game. This has my interest. However, I bought a Wii, played it twice, and sold it.

I don't have a PS4 or XBone. My gaming is currently satisfied with my Vita and 2DS. There are some games I want to get into. I just worry about, well, buying a Nintendo console. :D

Mario Kart 8 reviews are out, all are 8s and 9s that I've seen. Looking great, despite a few flaws (only 4 player because the GamePad can't be used for one player exclusively, you can't send invites to friends, Battle Mode is on modified race tracks rather than in arenas).

Mario Kart Wii U bundle purchased yesterday.

Wii U: Pretty neat system. Seems to be about on par with the 360 for graphics powers (no idea if this is true or not). The Gamepad screen is handy, played some Mario Kart while "watching" House on another input. For whatever reason I cannot connect to the Wii Shop in the Wii Menu on either my Wii U or my Wii, so I haven't been able to transfer data yet. Anyone have any idea if the Wii U plays Wii games at 720/1080, or is it limited to 480?

Mario Kart 8: Whole lot of fun. Definitely more challenging when you get to first, as you can no longer "stack" powerups in the game for defense purposes. On the other side, the Super Horn lets you defend against Blue Shells. That being said, the cpu opponents seem to get about 10 Blue Shells for every one of your Super Horns. Also, getting really tired of basically only getting coins and bananas while in first place. All in all, its Mario Kart. It's got 32 tracks, and they are mostly fun. I really dislike the modifications they made to Toad's Highway, all the other classic tracks they "upgraded" are fine/fun. 8/10 from me

Nintendo Land: Bought this, since I was told it's basically Mario Party but better. Haven't touched it yet.

Super Mario Bros U: This was a bit annoying to get. I connected my Wii U to my Club Nintendo account, never received any email. Looked around on Club Nintendo yesterday, didn't see anything. Happened to have the page open in Safari on my iPhone when I woke up this morning, it reloaded the page, and a popup happened saying I was eligible for a free game. Chose Mario Bros, then it gave me a bunch of "are you sure?" screens, then the final screen where you are to get the download code it errored out  Went back, tried it again, and got a download code. Screen displayed the code and also said it'd email it to me. Copied the code down, just in case the email didn't come, and sure enough, no email.

Anyways, long story short ("too late!"), downloaded it this morning, only played a level, but its more of the "New" Super Mario Bros, and I'm totally ok with that. Only played a couple levels, so not much to say. It's similar to the Wii version, but with better graphics, and what looks like new enemies and powerups, and obviously level designs.

Now to wait for Super Mario 3D World, Donkey Kong, and a couple others to hit greatest hits, or sales or something. I can't keep up with $50-60 games :P

My favorite unexpected game was Splatoon, a Nintendo-friendly take on the online FPS genre. Instead of trying to kill your opponent, the goal of the game is to cover the stage in your team's color of ink. Your character can turn into a squid that can quickly swim and jump through ink of your teams color (including going straight up walls), but the other team's color slows you down. Watching it being played, I can't help but be excited.

I like the idea of Splatoon a lot - I'm totally okay with "beat the other guy without killing him" style games, and Splatoon seems like it'd be fun.

I'm still not motivated enough to buy a Wii U, but if one fell into my lap I wouldn't be upset. Maybe after some price cuts or whatever I'll bite.

Splatoon looked interesting but it would have been nice to see another map in action. The video I saw (I guess from the Treehouse stuff on youtube?) had gameplay only in the one level.

Watching the Nintendo Direct live, I first thought they had recruited the Kraft Cheesasaurus Rex, what will all the orange and the eyes in it. Then when it started it also reminded me a bit of Squid Girl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squid_Girl), so it makes me wonder if there will be any marine-based puns. Probably up to the player to make them though.

Interesting quirk I just realized of the Wii U: I hooked up to a cheap Insignia TV, and immediately realized it was a laggy TV, because the music on the TV and the GamePad were out of sync. Adjusting various settings didn't fix it, so for getting super precise timing I needed to watch the GamePad instead of the TV.

3 Eight-player Smash! You can have up to eight people on some stages.
4 Bigger stages! Like Hyrule Temple.
5 A new feature called Danger Zone—some stages will have lava patches that hurt/kill you.
6 One stage, based on Donkey Kong Country Returns, lets you battle on two different planes at once—one in the background and one in the foreground.
7 More stages than the 3DS version.
8 ...Including a Miiverse stage that will highlight Miiverse posts for each Smash fighter as you play.
9 Palutena will add commentary when you play as Pit, not unlike Snake's codecs in Brawl.
10 Metal Face from Xenoblade Chronicles will appear on Gaur Plains.
11 Ridley will appear... but he's not playable. :(
12 In addition to Stock and Time modes, you'll be able to fight with Coin Battles.
13 Stamina Battles, too! In those, you'll lose when your HP gets to zero, an inversion of the usual Smash formula.
14 There's a mode called Special Smash where you can change around rules and do all sorts of weird things.
15 You'll be able to change item frequency in this one. (Unlike the 3DS version.)
16 There's a function called My Music that will let you set how frequently you want songs to appear during each battle.
17 You can change the menu music, too.
18 The Wii U version will have way more music than the 3DS version did.
19 More composers too!
20 You can collect CDs in the game that will get you more tracks.
21 There are way more challenges than the 3DS version.
22 Classic Mode will be way different—you'll advance based on how well you do, rather than which order you want to do things.
23 Clearing Classic Mode will get you individual character movies.
24 All-Star Mode will be in reverse-chronological order this time around.
25 The new Event Mode will let you take on a whole bunch of different themed battles.
26 The Wii U's version of Smash Run is a board game mode called Smash Tour in which you'll compete on a big ol' Mario Party-style map, collecting fighters and items as you move your Miis around the board.
27 There's a Target Blast mini-game in which you launch big ol' bombs at various targets.
28 You can play with other people in the Stadium now, even for Target Blast.
29 There's a new mode called Special Orders, in which the big bosses Master Hand and Crazy Hand will give you unique challenges and commands.
30 Master Fortress is a new sort of boss battle in which the Master Core (from the 3DS version) will actually turn into a big dungeon that you have to conquer.
31 You can play the game with lots of controllers, from the Wii U GamePad to the Wii remote/nunchuk.
32 There's a GameCube controller adapter, as we knew. You can use GameCube controllers to play.
33 You can use the 3DS as a controller, too.
34 You can bring custom characters from your 3DS to your Wii U.
35 Lots more trophies in this one, mostly from console games.
36 You can get Final Smash trophies by surviving All-Star mode with each character.
37 There's a Trophy Box! So you can show off all these new trophies, if you feel compelled.
38 Photo Studio is a new mode in which you can arrange your trophies and take ridiculous pictures that will certainly not be abused at all.
39 You can collect trophies in multiplayer Trophy Rush.
40 With a strange new mode called Masterpieces, you can actually play timed demos of classic Nintendo games like Super Mario World and Earthbound. Then, once your timer is up, you can go buy them on the Wii U's virtual console. Capitalism!
41 You can level up your amiibo characters. They'll gain experience fighting and boost stats when you give them equipment to gobble up.
42 The Wii LAN adapter is compatible with the Wii U. Use that if your wifi sucks!
43 You'll get notifications in the main menu!
44 You can team up with people sitting on your couch to play online together.
45 Eventually, Nintendo is going to add a mode where you can host and join tournaments.
46 Nintendo's gonna have tournaments, too.
47 The GamePad will mirror the screen and can also show information about how much damage characters have taken.
48 Not only can you take screenshots, as you can in the 3DS version, you'll be able to draw on them with the GamePad! Rad. Eventually you'll be able to share them online, too.
49 Voice chat... but not in-game. Just between matches.
50 Stage builder! You'll be able to make your own stages on the GamePad.
51 ...You'll also be able to share stages, eventually. That feature isn't ready yet.
52 All the Joins The Battle movies are in the game!
53 If you buy both the 3DS and Wii U versions and register them with Club Nintendo by January 13, you can get a two-disc soundtrack set from Nintendo.

Indeed. I spent many years doing relatively high mileage driving to and from work. I know have an hour train each way. I don’t get too stressed about train-issues as there’s nothing I can do about it. It's quite relaxing, actually. I mostly get a seat, and I’m at a point of owning more games for my handhelds than my console :D

In a meeting about how they're going to be making new games for mobile platforms, Nintendo also revealed the codename of their next console: NX.

No timeframe and no clues as to what it will contain or do, though, other than previous comments about having more similarities between their home and portable hardware in their future, and new comments saying they're still going to try and push forward with new hardware ideas.

Also, gaming sites have had some hands-on time with Splatoon that included campaign mode and a new multiplayer mode similar to King of the Hill:
http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/03/23/splatoon-making-messy-mischief-in-nintendos-new-shooter
http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2015/03/preview_we_take_aim_at_splatoon_to_see_if_it_offer s_the_best_of_both_worlds
http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/preview/39894/splatoon-wii-u-hands-on-impressions

They discussed but did not show a one-on-one local multiplayer mode. It will be different from the normal multiplayer, which requires the map on the GamePad, and they seem to not have completely decided what it will be or how it will work, other than it will involve more stealth elements (hiding in ink is the example they gave).

Splatoon thoughts:
It's easier to score points (and therefore earn the chance to use your special weapon) when the match is close or you are losing.
The main game mode ends up being like territories, except that the only thing that matters is who owns the most land when the match ends. Get too cocky/aggressive? If your whole team dies at once, a couple rollers can cover enough of the open levels to take control while you're respawning.
That being said, one sided matches still happen, especially on the maps with tight corridors, because one or two people can effectively camp near the spawn.
Being able to disappear into your team's ink, or super jump from it to any teammate, at any time, is really cool, and under used by me.
Having to back out of matchmaking to change weapons means you have to learn to deal with the abilities of whatever your preferred kit is, though limiting it to two maps at a time does help you plan.
The fact that your weapon is used as much for painting the ground as it is attacking enemies means your priorities are changed. If a weapon has great distance and accuracy, but doesn't cover much ground for the ink it uses, you're going to struggle to make much real progress.
Having a game built in to play during queues is smart, though thankfully you only end up playing it for extended periods very few times. It's a simple, early NES-style game, and automatically saves progress during the same lobby/matchmaking session.
The balance seems good so far, and is helped by the fact that teams are randomly selected for each match, so you don't have clans rolling together, and loadouts are fixed, so you can't combine your best unlocked weapon, "grenade" and special.

GreatScawt
May 31st, 2015, 05:44 PM
My girlfriend's brother was playing this and I was watching for a good hour or so. It looks really cool, plays smoothly. It took no time at all to find matches and the matches have a good flow to them. The strategy is interesting... The end game is best used for shooting enemy paint, because youre doing double duty, as opposed to painting empty areas.
The roller seems overpowered at first, but it's a close range weapon. Also it'll get people in squid form hiding in the paint, even if the user is unaware they're there.
If people spend too much time idle in squid form, though, the game points them out, which I think is a superb idea.

Ok, with current rumors, I don't know what Nintendo is doing with the NX, other than being batshit insane:

- It may have Android runtime, to run Android games, but not run Android as the OS
- Japanese business news site is saying that they've contacted their suppliers and want them to start working on components now, so that they can start having units ready in July of 2016. They're aiming to ship 20 million in the first year. WHAT THE HELL DO THEY THINK WILL SELL 20 MILLION IN ONE YEAR?! Just making a gaming tablet and thinking you're going to steal 20 million sales per year from Apple is...bold.
- They're going to continue developing Wii U and 3DS games at the same time, so of course no system will be fully utilized. Of course the NX is completely backwards compatible.

If they're just doing a GamePad as standalone tablet, that's not 20 million in a year. Unless it's $100 and comes with the entire back catalog of Nintendo games. But the business rumors could be wrong.

I should have suspected this was going to happen as soon as they started aiming for the PS4/Xbone. From what I've read, they switched to a very complex tire model that uses so much CPU power that it never really had a chance on the Wii U.

This is officially the most realistic game ever: http://www.polygon.com/e3/2016/6/15/11942652/legend-of-zelda-breath-of-the-wild-ending (article also mentions a 2017 release; I hadn't seen Nintendo give a date, other than that it would be available by the time the NX launched)

You don't actually have to finish the story to beat the game. There's a bad guy (probably some form of Ganon) behind everything, and as soon as you start the game you can go directly to him and try to defeat him. If you do it, congratulations, you beat the game! Of course, the chances of you doing that, since you don't have any equipment or built up health/stamina/whatever else, is very low.

"Users may not actually get the full story depending on how they play this game and how they strategize and solve puzzles," producer Eiji Aonuma told Polygon. "Users are able to go to the very end goal without revealing why Link woke up the way he did and where he did. Whether you want to reveal the storyline and find out why Link woke up, or you want to just go straight to the goal, that's an option totally up to the user."

When asked, Aonuma confirmed that a player could go directly to the final boss of the game from its opening moments if they wanted. However, he also stressed that he didn't view this as an ideal way to play.

"Anybody who can go straight to the goal without doing anything else — there's two possibilities," Aonuma said. "Either they're a really good gamer, or they could be somebody that's a little bit crazy. But it's not impossible. I created the game like that.

"Maybe it might be fun for fans to compete in a challenge for who can clear it first."

http://www.eggplante.com/2016/06/14/full-zelda-breath-of-the-wild-map-revealed-roughly-360-square-kilometres/

The map about 360 square kilometers / 140 square miles, based on the in-game map.

This is the area in the demo most people played. Each of the square sections is estimated by the linked site to be about 1 sq. km.

This is the entire map, with only the demo area colored in.

Regarding Aonuma, I'm pretty sure he's the only guy within Nintendo to have ever told Miyamoto to beat it with his silly ideas. This is why The Legend of Zelda kind of evolves from game to game, rather than having gimmicks forced upon it like in Star Fox Zero.

Oh my fuck there's so much in this game, and it's only the E3 demo that we've seen.

I'm going to be one lost soul come March 2017. All I can do is lie back and let it all envelop me with it's time-sinkyness, like a good wristy after a massage. I might as well sign off from life until I finish the game. Spoont.

Nintendo Direct about only 3DS today, but it did include the announcement of Skyward Sword coming to the Wii U virtual console, and these 4 new Zelda-themed amiibo. I'll probably get OoT Link, because OoT.

As it happens, I'm actually playing Skyward Sword right now on Dolphin emulator. I've sunk over 20 hours into it since starting last week. I missed it first time around and needed a Motion Plus add on, but thought "ahhh fuck it" and did it the proper way; I scoured eBay for the limited edition game + gold Wii remote pack that came out in 2011. I managed to find one from Japan that was a good price, and it's in utterly perfect brand new condition. I'm so chuffed!

I could've paid $5 for a second hand motion plus, but I paid $130, and I get a nice interesting thing to put on my shelf.

I'm nearing the point where the game glitches out if I collect some songs or something in the wrong order and it renders the save file useless, so I have to be careful!

Good Smile Company has revealed pics on Facebook of their new Link and Zelda from Twilight Princess collection of Figma figurines.

https://www.facebook.com/goodsmileenglish/?fref=ts

Figmas are about 6" tall, extremely detailed, highly poseable, and as you could probably tell by the pics, a fair bit more expensive than your usual action figures, but totally worth it. Most Figmas come with interchangeable hands and faces for extra poseability. Good Smile has produced a lot of interesting Figmas, such as Bruce Lee, Solid Snake from MGS2, Iron Man, Akira and Sarah from Virtua Fighter and even artworks such as Michaelangelo's David, The Thinker and Venus de Milo.

I already have their Skyward Sword Link figure and it's amazing. There is also a Link Between Worlds edition of Link, and another sub-brand called Nendoroid which focuses on super-deformed style anime characters that has done adorable Wind Waker style Link and Zelda as well.

There will be a special limited DX version of Link, which includes extra weapons and faces:

Do you know what I find incredibly amusing?

The fact that you can walk into a major gaming retailer in 2016 and ask for one of these.

A controller for a 14 year old console.

There will soon be kids who are able to work at EB Games who weren't even alive when the GameCube came out.

Dolphin emulator natively supports both the official WiiU-GC adapter and any aftermarket adapters, so that it's possible to play CG games on PC with a GC pad, but I wanna go one better and play Battlefield 1 with that muhh-fuhh.

They went for resale because the Super Smash Bros community loves them (and an older, GameCube version of the series that they're trying to ween the community off of).

It's amazing that they still cost that much too. I tried getting a memory card for a PS2 a number of years ago, and they wanted $20 for a 8MB SONY PS2 memory card. :twitch: You can get 8gb storage for half that...

They went for resale because the Super Smash Bros community loves them (and an older, GameCube version of the series that they're trying to ween the community off of).

Well this is the rare-erer-er version with the GameCube logo on it. It was re-released in white with a longer cable in Japan only back when the Wii came out to promote the GC backwards compatibility. Then they re-re-rereleased another white one but with the Smash logo on it more recently for WiiU, and that is also available in black. This one was for sale here because EB Games imported a whole load of them from Japan; it has all Japanese text on the back of the box and an all-Japanese instruction leaflet, with diagrams for connecting to the Wii alongside the GameCube diagrams.

And yeah, the only way to play Smash Bros. is with a proper gamepad, which explains the plethora of WiiU-compatible dedicated Smash pads you can buy. Competitive Smash Bros. gaming is a thing. A very deep and scary thing.

On the subject of cost, I got this for $35. For $44 EB will sell you a whole refurbished 2nd-hand Wii console with a 3 month warranty. Not bad.

Melancholy

:(

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2017-01-20-zelda-will-be-nintendos-last-game-for-the-wii-u

This is that moment when you think back to when the 'Cube or N64 were still in shops and it was Nintendo's thing, but nowadays mint boxed copies of Bad Fur Day go for AU$300. It'll be the same thing in 15 years; the Wii U will be looked upon as an underrated console with a lot of great games. Then there's the whole two-screen gaming era. What a mad proposition. It's all ending soon.

Right now I'm playing the trade-off game where I trade off the potential discounts on the console against the risk that they'll all be sold out before I can buy one brand new. I don't want to have another gap in my Nintendo console collection, the last one being the SNES and a few of their handhelds.
