There was a BB Raceway FIA race during either pre-season or in the first season of the actual championship wasn't there?

I'm pretty sure I am going to sign with Mazda, it's a step up from the Hyundai.

Physics have also changed in an unspecified way. So who knows if those BoP change numbers are representative of relative performance changes overall.

It sounds like the new system for handling points in multiple races will encourage doing early races, and going until you think you've gotten a result you can be satisfied with. It'll make strategizing when to stop very interesting...

January 17th, 2019, 02:04 PM
From what I've read elsewhere (you've probably seen it) the physics difference may be in how the ABS is modulated. Either way times seem to be slightly faster than before.

See, my thinking was that the system of taking your best score allowed you to run multiple times encouraged running early and running each races probably twice, three if you can fit the time in. Changing it to this current system to me means going back to the old way of running it once, because if you run it again you run the risk of having one stupid mistake costing you hundreds of points. Now, if you have a bad first race, then yes this helps in that you can try it again, but I think once you have one good race, the risk isn't worth the reward to go out and try again.

Maybe they also then fixed the abs glitch

Haven't played in literal years, but just bought a PS4 and about to head out and get GT Sport. Was on youtube and ran into a few videos that piqued my interest from SuperGT and TheKie25. I found myself inspired.

Dumb question; does my ancient wheel from PS3 still work with this game on this console?

January 18th, 2019, 10:24 PM
Depends on which one it is. Look in the controller settings tab to see which ones are supported

January 19th, 2019, 12:23 AM
Not sure if i like the new handling or not yet.

The F50 doesn't slide as much, which is good and bad. Seems to understeer a bit more now, which is a bit more fitting with its real life counterpart which apparently tends to understeer in mid to high speed corners or something.
Will give it more wheel (controller) time.

If itís ancient then probably not. Like, 99% chance that it wonít.

Save your pennies and get a Thrustmaster T300. Good entry level wheel which is belt driven. The Logitech G29 is also good (itís what I have) but itís gear driven and just as rattly as their older models.

Okay so I think I know how to game the lobbies.

Last night went into the first race with Sr99, got put in a lobby with 50pts to the winner and qualified 3rd. Tried to be patient but everyone behind me was having none of that and was constantly being dive bombed and rammed by people suiciding into corners, finished 13 and lost a lot of my Sr.

Second race, sr87 600pts for the winner finished 8th with a clean race and 350pts

My PlayStation 4 has given up the ghost after almost 4 years. She's been giving me problems for several months now of not properly restarting from rest mode or a cold start, and is now incapable of either properly turning on at all or without the video signal dying even after it turns on. I think it is some sort of physical internal failure with the motherboard or the video card.

That being said, I was a bit miffed that today's Nations Cup race featured a 10 million credit car you had to buy, and they didn't just give you one for free. First time I remember seeing that happen.

February 23rd, 2019, 03:25 PM
I doubt it, it's really only the Pebble Beach Concours stuff that is in the millions.

My question is, where will the McLaren be categorized? Group X like the P1 GTR? Group 3, which seems out of place? Or maybe Group 2?

February 24th, 2019, 06:53 AM
I was thinking gr.1, but gr.2 would work

Rare White Ape
February 24th, 2019, 02:24 PM
I was thinking about Gr2 recently. They could easily bolster its numbers by adding the Aston, Corvette, 488 and Ford GT, and correctly adjusting the performance of the 911 RSR, while replacing it in GT3 with the proper 911 GT3. It would make a nice GTLM class.

February 24th, 2019, 05:02 PM
I agree, I hate that the 911 RSR is in Group 3. Project CARS did similar things with their few GTE cars, putting them in GT3.

The update is available. For me itís forty-three point seven fuckin gigabytes.

Anyway, the McLaren F1 is the Ueno Clinic one that won Le Mans in 1995, so donít bother preparing to do that one in the livery editor if that was your plan!

And as a complete surprise, theyíre adding the Autopolis Circuit as well

March 5th, 2019, 06:19 AM
Yeah, the extra headlights nobs was the giveaway that it was the Ueno Clinic car. Which kind of ruins every other livery since that was the only car to ever run those lights, but oh well.

March 5th, 2019, 06:19 AM
They've added a Japanese club circuit? Some surprise.

March 5th, 2019, 07:27 AM
You mean a former World Sportscar Championship, and long time Super GT circuit?

EDIT: Scratch F1, I was thinking of TI Aida Circuit.

March 5th, 2019, 07:56 AM
Is it even financially viable at the moment?

I'll echo an opinion that I share with others on another board; I'm tired of daily races in concrete canyons like Tokyo when there are real world tracks that never get used (Spa). Adding an obscure-to-everyone-but-Japanophiles track is not going to help that. If prior history is an indication it will be a part of at least one of the daily races for the next two months. It could be a fabulous track and I hope it is, but my presumption is this is more Japanese fan service.

Similar to last weeks Gr.2 requirement for the long Daily race. Great, a Japanese GT500 spec series with, what, three total possible entries? *twirls finger*

It's not specific to GT:S or Japan, that's just how it presents here. PC2 has a ton of questionable club level euro tracks that are put way too high in the rotation as well.

March 5th, 2019, 11:04 AM
Everyone and their cousin has Spa at the top of their list. I'm honestly more annoyed that Tsukaba made it into the game, I've always considered it a useless circuit.

Rare White Ape
March 5th, 2019, 01:06 PM
Come on man, Tsukuba is a great circuit. There’s so much hidden depth in its wee layout and it’s the perfect place for hilarious fun in slow shitboxes :D

I did a lap of Autopolis last night and it’s long and windy, but not Mickey-mouse. A good inclusion. I feel that it’s atmosphere inspired the creation of more than a few fantasy GT tracks from back in the day.

Now if we had Spa, you’ll quickly find all the online public lobbies turning into GT3 at Spa like they do in every other game.

March 5th, 2019, 01:11 PM
Autopolis is the shit.

March 5th, 2019, 01:28 PM
I love tsukuba. I didn't when I started driving it years ago, but I have quickly come to enjoy it.

March 5th, 2019, 05:44 PM
Tsukuba needs the right car since it is basically a moto track. I learned to love it in iRacing in the Pro Mazda.

Iíve done a Macca GTR livery. Itís low-hanging fruit but I reckon itís 10 times better than all the other attempts at it

March 6th, 2019, 07:55 AM
I actually had been planning to do that one as well, but as you said there are already many people who had the same idea.

Rare White Ape
March 6th, 2019, 12:28 PM
Yeah, but poorly executed. Chevrons the wrong shape, nobody uses fluoro, logos the wrong size and placement, often using completely wrong logos, the list goes on.

Itís obvious that people are referencing a specific car, but it seems as though theyíre half-blind, or they'll see one photo of it and guess what the rest of it looks like.

Iím working on the Lark JGTC car, but Iím very hesitant to complete it because itís so hard to find the right shade of pink for it. Itís been called Ďrocket pinkí by the designer of the livery, but googling that phrase returns lots of pictures of female masturbatory aids. Iíve got quite a few fluoro paints off the Mileage Exchange but theyíre either too pink or too orange.

Currently Iím using the same R1 fluoro that is on the Marlboro until I work it out, and it very much does pop right out of my TV screen, but itís the wrong fluoro, and unfortunately Iíve literally got no way to see what the real shade is via the limitations of standard imaging colour space.

March 6th, 2019, 01:26 PM
Yeah, I always nitpick the sizing and specific logos that other people use. It also doesn't help that many cars have subtle differences from one race to another. For instance, your Marlboro McLaren ran with blank endplates and endplates with Marlboro logos on them, both in the same weekend.

Rare White Ape
March 6th, 2019, 02:26 PM
It also had a Marlboro logo next to the BPR logo underneath the number in some shots. And a few of the model kit decal reference pages I saw had the wrong driver names paired up to the #2 or #6!

March 6th, 2019, 05:23 PM
This is why I don't ever try to 100% Duplicate a livery

March 6th, 2019, 05:38 PM
Yeah, sometimes I will mix and match cars from different races, it all depends on what I like and what logos I have available.

Freude am Fahren
March 6th, 2019, 05:46 PM
Yeah, pretty much only Le Mans liveries are worth complaining about. Even then you can get differences. That winning Euno Clinic car didn't even start the race with those extra lights.

Rare White Ape
March 6th, 2019, 05:51 PM
Modern cars are easy to do, older ones are harder. Without solid reference photos, I feel like an archaeologist looking up old ones sometimes. The GTR is 25 years old!

March 6th, 2019, 06:20 PM
The two I did were near impossible, GTRs from the British GT Championship in 1996. One only had three real life photos, and one 1:43 scale model that was only limited to 100 produced, so pictures were rare.

March 6th, 2019, 07:43 PM
Love it. Spotted it while browsing and grabbed it. :toast:

March 6th, 2019, 10:59 PM
If you're a fan of Best Motoring videos, then chances are you'll be itching to try out those same cars around Tsukuba, one of the tracks they used most often.

That's where i first got my love of the track, then it came to GT (GT4?) and was only surpassed in my awesome track list by the Nordschleife.
It's a great track for thrashing the crap out of a car without having to drive for like that for too long (i.e. driving like that on the Nordschleife isn't great for the nerves), like how they do in Best Motoring.

And as for the update, i fired up the game, did one lap around the new track in the F50 and then turned it off again. Doesn't seem like a bad track, but we'll see.

March 6th, 2019, 11:18 PM

March 9th, 2019, 04:40 AM
They should add Sugo and Okayama to Sport next.

Freude am Fahren
March 9th, 2019, 02:24 PM
Pretty sure that's actually an LM. Though that still doesn't explain the extra ducts, since no others have them. Maybe it was in a very hot climate (Brunei?) and modified.

March 9th, 2019, 03:02 PM
I looked it up, its the former Jacadi Giroix F1 GTR, just repainted for street use. Interestingly, the race car had the ducts too, so it's something original, just unique to that car.

EDIT: A couple other cars appear to have had it from time to time as well. The cars are also lacking the center duct on the front of the car, so I assume these twin ducts replace that single duct. Probably McLaren playing with certain configurations, similar to the "endurance" headlights on the Ueno Clinic car.

Doesn't explain not remaking their own tracks, but explains Spa. I doubt other tracks asking for that price. Road America would be nice

March 26th, 2019, 04:24 PM
That argument doesn't really hold up for me when you consider that GT:S is just one of many racing options and the rest have Spa. If they want to say it's a symptom of being a PS exclusive then maybe, but the fact is their direct competitor has multiple iterations of Spa.

I feel like PD has a long history of 'knowing what's best for the user' regardless of actual user requests and their continued desire to make fantasy tracks is an extension of that. I follow a similar thread on a real world racing forum and there is a persistent theme of not being able to get into the game too deeply because of the lack of real world tracks. Why they are leaning on "OMG FIA!!!!! SERIES!!!" so heavily while simultaneously delivering junk like Sainte-Croix Circuit. All this while not satisfying the GT series fans by giving Trial Mount or Grand Valley back. They seem to like getting high on their own supply more than anything.

Japanese game development culture is very different to western game dev culture. In 2017 the team behind Splatoon on Switch were interviewed about their game and one of the topics that came up was players asking why their game doesn’t do this or they want that feature. They felt that it was rude or almost abhorrent that people could demand such and such a thing yet it is not their game that they are making; the developers are the ones making it, not the players. I’m not sure about how it affects the rest of Japanese media culture, but it’s certainly the way film and TV is made: at the whim of the producers, writers, and directors, not the opinion of the general public.

I feel that this sort of mindset has dictated the way that Gran Turismo has been made since the beginning, and it highlights the stark contrast between that and Forza, which had damage and body kits and paint and burnouts and engine swaps from the get-go. After years of asking, GT finally included a damage model and nobody gave a shit. And they revamped their physics engine to allow for real oversteer, so now the game is definitely on the sim side of simcade and is currently a serious esports title, whereas Forza sort of languishes in “nobody cares land” until the next iteration comes out.

To conclude, fuck Spa and fuck what people want. There are plenty of games which include Spa (some much better than GT and some much worse) while there are dozens of other great tracks that never get their place in the video gaming spotlight.

March 26th, 2019, 08:04 PM
For many years PD's claim about Porsche not being in the game, before the EA exclusivity deal, was that Porsche was too expensive for them to put the effort in.

As for giving players what they want, I feel like the three ovals exist solely to "give players what they want" since there is always demand for that sort of racing, even though it really has no place here.

March 26th, 2019, 08:45 PM
The fact that PD defines those as 'ovals' about says it all, doesn't it? Everything with them has a catch.

I didn't pay for the game, it was given to me by a Sony employee. I haven't played it in a while, I really need to just eject the disc and file it away.

March 27th, 2019, 06:30 AM
Mind you, I reckon some developers go too far the other way and give in to butthurt "community outrage" bullshit.

I had a nice, luxuriously long session in VR this afternoon, doing hot laps of Suzuka and Brands Hatch in the SF19.

Hot damn itís cool.

And Paddock Hill Bend isÖ interesting if you havenít fortified your stomach in a while. Itís been a good month since I used VR and I was feeling my guts churn just a wee bit!

In VR you are able to look so far ahead through corners, plus visual delay is a lot slower between input and response than a TV, so youíre at a huge advantage. But itís this ability to look ahead that can cause nausea. When I started my session I had to remind myself that it was possible, but I was soon pumping out laps with my head cranked right around corners, and my eyes focused not on apex but corner exit.

Back to Paddick Hill Bend. You go down the hill, then hit the hard perigee at the bottom, and spring out again. The whole time Iím focussed on the approach to Druids. My body waits for the g-forces but they never come. Itís a heck of a rush.

March 30th, 2019, 12:24 PM
Havent tried VR - got a mate with a set, might have to borrow it (want to use it with my seat/wheel and easier to move the VR than the other way round)

March 30th, 2019, 02:45 PM
Hmmm, Polyphony are updating/improving things by stealth.

I'm sure we all remember this classic post i made decades ago (March last year) about the Ford GT in GT Sport:

Are we all in agreement that the R8 and GT are the worst/most unrealistic sounding cars in GT Sport? Really hoping for a patch, because at the moment it's GT6 all over again - i can't drive either of those cars because the sound is just too off putting. :/ Sucks, cos i looked forward to driving the V8 R8 as opposed to the V10 usually seen in games.

Well i drove it in a campaign mode race the other day because it was one of the more interesting car choices i had to choose from, and low and behold the friggen thing is FINALLY sounding like a V8. Like, properly. The behind car view is still a little iffy/muted sounding, but interior and bonnet/roof view is sounds nice and aggressively V8ish.

Nothing at all like it was when the car was first released thankfully. I'd been checking the sound of it after some game content updates since then, and they've definitely been playing around with it as after one update it sounded a tad better (you could kinda hear the V8 sound hidden in the actual sound being emitted), but yeah. It's not perfect by any means, but at least i can now drive the damn thing.

Now for the R8, although i haven't been checking the sound of that one and i'm not hopeful they've been fine tuning it.

So the FIA penalty line system is being added to daily races starting Monday.

April 3rd, 2019, 09:36 PM
Doing the Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta daily, and I get tboned by a guy who went into the gravel and shot back across the racing line with nowhere to go or even brake, I managed to be penalized. I still don't understand how that is a thing.

April 6th, 2019, 10:57 AM
How do you people race in the daily? I've been tboned and rear-ended so many times by backmarkers dive-bombing from 4 positions back

April 7th, 2019, 09:25 PM
I don't. :P

You shouldn't need to get stressed out by a fear of getting taken out, alongside the adrenaline you get when closely racing/trying to catch/get away from other drivers, when racing online - it's not a good combo so hence why i never bother with official online races. Much better with a group of people you know, cos then you know they aren't there to win at all costs.

Weird, so that's not a 1988 962C at all. High downforce, Rothmans livery, instead of the low downforce Shell livery from 1988. And with the number 1, it has to be 1986 most likely.

Rare White Ape
April 22nd, 2019, 08:23 PM
Careful though, that may be a custom livery. The Shell logo above the headlight is stretched out a bit too much.

But I’m glad they went with the high downforce wing. It looks so hot.

I'm amazed at how easily drivable the 962 is. I can't think of many games I've played where the 962 has been available, always other Group C turbo monsters, but unlike them the 962 just seems so much easier. Getting down in 1st gear and getting on the gas doesn't really require as much finesse, the car doesn't want to instantly loop.

It'll never be competitive compared to the rest of the Grpup 1 cars, but it's a wonderful thing.

Also, why is the Renault R8 Gordini in Group X?

April 24th, 2019, 11:29 AM
Yea I was doing laps in the 962 at Le Mans and was surprised by how calm it was.

Side note, I am out of practice at Le Mans

Following this change, from Monday, 3 June competitors can change their manufacturer affiliation contracts again. Please note that once you change your affiliation you will not be able to change it again until the end of the 2019 Series.

Cuda, since I saw you asking about changing your car choice around for the main manufacturers season, it looks like they're allowing it. You could just pick BMW again and go with a different Gr.3 car.

I'm not actually sure what cars i'd like to see in GT Sport now, i have the R32 GT-R, Diablo GT and Ferrari F40, plus the F50 (still can't believe they actually put it in a GT game, never thought that day would come).

Well in saying that, i can think of a few (most of which i'd actually buy if i won Lotto):
- Porsche 911 GT3 RS (997, series 1)
- 2002 Mercedes SL55 AMG (the car i kinda hope to have in real life one day now that i've decided not to buy an R32 GT-R)
- Lamborghini Countach LP5000S
- Ferrari F355 GTS
- Ferrari 360?
- 2000 Ford Mustang Cobra R
- Any Ford Falcon that's not a race car
- More Skylines
- Nissan Stageas
- Nissan Laurel (C33)
- Nissan Cefiro (A31)
- Jaguar XJ220
- Lamborghini Gallardo (first generation, pre facelift)
- Aston Martin V12 Vantage S
- TVR Cerbera Speed 12
- TVR Sagaris
- RUF to return
- Dodge Viper RT/10 (just because it never seems to end up in games anymore)
- Koenigsegg Agera R
- SSC Ultimate Aero

I better stop before i get carried away. :(

I would contend that it is still a good looking car despite its age (and it was also the main car featured in the opening movie for GT Concept 2002, so it has that cachet behind it).

But if I was to buy an AMG it would be one of these (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/82/Mercedes-Benz_C63_AMG_-_Flickr_-_Alexandre_Pr%C3%A9vot_%287%29_%28cropped%29.jpg)

or one of these (https://www.mercedes-benz.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/3/2018/11/10-mercedes-benz-mercedes-amg-gt-r-pro-c-190-selenite-grey-magno-3400x1440.jpg) (in exactly that garish colour scheme)

I just much prefer the look of the SL55. :) And i'm sure i read somewhere that the SL55 AMG was the last supercharged Mercedes. I just happen to like the sound of that car, with it's automatic gearbox too.
And if you take the speed limiter out, Mercedes say it can reach 334km/h (208mph). Not that i would.

So for those that didn't see it on Facebook, I went to the GT World Tour event in NYC today where they were holding the Manufacturers Championship. It was a good experience, although we really only got to watch four races, all the practice and qualifying was done before it was open to the public. Saw Jimmy Broadbent, who some of you may know from YouTube, and Nick McMillan, who raced with Bryan after winning GT Academy. Nick also represented Aston Martin, who is my manufacturer, and he is the only guy who is above me in the standings for North America, so it was good to see him and his teammates come through for 2nd in the event today. Nations Cup is tomorrow but I think I'll stay home, driving to NYC and back is a bit of a drain.

I did meet Kaz though!

October 16th, 2019, 02:20 AM
I’ve come back to GT Sport a bit this week because I’m grinding out some Mileage Points in order to buy all the frickin fluoro paint chips that are available. I’ve taken a long-arse break from the game this year to play other things, and those other things have mostly been other sim racing titles on the PC. Real racing sims!

Some things about GTS have quite strikingly stood out to me, after having played proper sims for a while and gotten very in-tune with how they operate, and I list those observations below. But before I get to them, I’ll note something interesting about these other sim racing games; they all feel very similar. The general driving experience in these games has converged on a fairly uniform feel and sensation. That tells me that racing sims are doing something right, if they end up closely packed like this while they’re coming from different approaches. That’s not to say that there is no difference to each other; ISI sims like RFactor and Automobilista feel different to Kunos sims like AC and ACC.

GTS, though, feels different… in its own unique way. On to my observations!

While driving, the cars feel super-understeery. They feel nice and stable at high speed while making steering corrections to navigate gentle curves, but as soon as more serious corner presents itself, you better be prepared to wait for the front end to respond. It also feels like you’ve got to turn the wheel a whole lot more, but adding more steering just adds more lock to the front wheels and it doesn’t seem to have any effect. I’ll aim for an apex and feel like I miss it every time. It’s not classic understeer caused by a lack of grip, and it’s not a really low steering ratio. It’s somewhere in-between.

Related to the above, 4WD cars absolutely hate any sort of throttle application if you’re still winding off the steering out of a corner. The Porsche 919 with its hybrid front electric motor just ploughs terribly if you’re too eager to apply even gentle power via the right foot. I have to make a conscious effort to wait a little bit, lest I end up in the gravel coming on to the front straight at Le Mans. Driving Group B cars on gravel is tricky, but you can almost shut your brain off and mad-dog it Dirt Rally-style and still be fast… if you’re prepared to be cautious on the throttle.

The AI is abysmally, terribly, hopelessly awful. It’s always been that way, and I’m afraid it’ll stay that way. It seems as though the developer simply doesn’t care about AI. For them, the challenge comes from you trying to be fast enough to catch the leader before the end of the race, while they float around the circuit, lap after lap, braking in the wrong places and being utterly oblivious to your presence, rather than actually fighting a challenging field in a decent race. Maybe that will improve with the next GT title on the Ryzen-based PS5 CPU, but they also promised better AI when the 8-core Cell processor came out on the PS3, soooo, I dunno.

Perhaps related to the above comments on understeer, a lot of the driving dynamics in the game feel really amplified. It’s super easy to catch a slide, like, really quickly, and the feeling of going over crests and through dips is huge, among other things. In games like Assetto Corsa you’ve got to really listen to what the steering is telling you in order to know what the car is doing, and bringing that experience back to GTS makes it feel like the game is shouting the information at you. I kind of like it, but I am also conscious of it maybe making the game too easy to play. If I get used to it then it’ll take time to adapt back to the more challenging PC sims.

Other random notes: why can’t you adjust the FOV? Why does it take so damn long the slow down the Aston Martin Vulcan from top speed when it’s basically a racing car with slicks? How come the engine sound is still terrible? It’s a game that’s so very unique, and so very Japanese, and so different to other racing games. It’s always making odd decisions that seem to forever put it just outside the realm of achieving greatness, while also including things that add greatly to the experience. If it just did a few things a little differently it could be the greatest racing game of all time.

October 16th, 2019, 05:42 AM

The #61 is notorious in Japan for being the only foreign car to win the JGTC championship. It was basically a factory operation from McLaren (if not full factory then close to it) using cars built for Le Mans domination.

The #60 was driven by Ralf Schumacher and Naoki Hattori. In one race it was crashed quite badly and retired from competition, replaced by another chassis. That damaged car was restored and is now a road-registered car in the UK.

Any idea if this is going to be ported to PS5? It's pretty safe to say that GT7 is going to be a PS5 title. You'd think they'd roll the online components (racing, livery editing, etc.) into GT7 as its sport mode. But if they just ported GT:S for the time being you won't have to deal with a PS exclusive being absent on the console for 4 years like GT:S was for PS4. Normally I wouldn't give them that much credit, but I assume there is pressure to release something on PS5 early on now that they're charging real money for in-game content.

From what I've read, development for GT7 started after GT:S was released so they're likely 4-5 year away from release.

Tom Servo
October 25th, 2019, 11:32 AM
Sony's said that the PS5 will be backwards compatible with PS4 games since they're using basically the same architecture, so presumably GT:S will "just work" on a PS5.

How is that handled with digital purchases? I was curious if I would have to rebuy Rocket League.

The digital purchases are usually tied to your account, not console. I'd assume it's all attached to your PSN login, and if you get a PS5 and login with the same account, then all the games you already owned are available to download again. Presumably it'll handle the save games for you as well. I know that's how it works with the XBox, I'd be surprised if it's different there.

October 25th, 2019, 01:30 PM
That's how it worked for my jump to PS4 to PS4 Pro, particularly as a PS+ users. But that's not a console generation jump.

This is the first time in a while that they've been touting backwards compatibility so that's a wrinkle of uncertainty. It's no surprise I approach this as a skeptic, if there is a way for them to make me buy something or repay for it I expect them to. I got Rocket League as a free PS+ game; I could totally see them not allowing me to bring those games with me. If only because of licensing issues at least, unless those contracts and agreements were future proofed. I can't think of anything that carried over from PS3 to PS4 seamlessly other than third party stuff like Netflix.

Happy to be wrong. And i won't be an early adopter so my answers will probably be answered well before I make a buying decision.

Anyone here do liveries for pay? Have one personal to me I would like to have made up. Relatively simple, one car, two almost identical variants, no design work, just replicate from some real world photos. Cam is my guy for iRacing, but he cannot create for GT:S.

If anyone is interested let me know.

I’ve been getting stuck into the daily races and having heaps of fun!

Tonight is Spa, 8 laps in GT3s. The strat is pit on lap 4, 4 laps of fuel, don’t change your tires. I’ve had three goes at it.

Before the first race, I did a few practice laps in the NSX and set a pretty slow lap time before ditching it to drive a Lexus. Race 1 saw me start 16th, finish 6th.

Race 2 I changed to the AMG, started 11th, but got spun out exiting the bus stop before I even began lap 1, so I dropped to 18th, and finished 9th.

Then in race 3 I started 11th again, managed to keep my nose out of trouble, and ended up 2nd! I felt like I was cutting hot laps every lap (as you should if it’s an 8 lap sprint) and really reeling in the leaders. I passed the 3rd place car and dropped him like a hot potato. In lap 7 I was 9.5 seconds off first, but managed to claw my way up to 7.5 seconds, before a minor mistake while braking for Les Combes on lap 8 saw me lose that 2 seconds again.

Now I’ve had dinner, so I’ll go back and set a faster qualifying time and really do some damage :D

Edit to add: on the hard tires, you can *almost* go through Eau Rouge without lifting, but it depends on how accurate you are. I’ve found that half a tire on the yellow stuff on the top of Radillon is enough to avoid a penalty, and you get a huge run on the other drivers while rolling up the Kemmel Straight, letting you pass a car per lap if you’re on it. It’s pretty thrilling!

My practice lap time was 2:35, but I just set a 2:22.0!

Beat that!

And of course I made a video of the race :D

Watch me brutalise this poor sap. I think it's hilarious that a car covered in Pokemon stickers won the race so convincingly.

Also I'm very humble about it...

God i hate the rolling starts in this game. Look how spread out the field is before the first corner! It's stupid.

Ditto, It makes Qualifying super important, and in Dailies it's just a crap shoot.

I don't run dailies since getting DR C as I loose enough points in FIA races

Oh man Iíve just had the most tense race. Iíve moved up to B now so my competitors are a bit faster.

I did the old ďone more raceĒ before I went to bed, but it was a dog ass of a race where I got caught in the top four and ended up with penalties. So I thought Iíd redeem myself with one more good race.

I a tarted 3rd, which is an immediate disadvantage because you get the green light just as you exit the bus stop. The two cars in front of me set the pace and I couldnít catch them, until the 2nd place car got an off-track penalty on lap 2.

I was second and losing time ever so gracefully to first, then made a mistake and pitted on lap 3 instead of 4. I rolled with it and used the slip stream off 10th place to gain some time. I was 11 seconds if first at that point. Two laps later and first place hits the pits. By then Iíd settled for second, but lo and behold he exits pit lane right next to me. He mustíve wasted some time changing his tyres!

I muscled him for the lead into Eau Rouge and found him in my draft, but carefully planted my car on the apex at the end of the straight. He followed very closely for the rest of the lap. Iím thinking, I canít do this for two more laps, itís too stressful! But it looks like he made a mistake at the bus stop and fell back beyond 1.5 seconds and out of my slip stream.

But it wasnít plain sailing. By lap 7 Iíd built a 6 second gap, but itís 10 past midnight and Iíve been racing all night and Iíd forgotten if Iíd put enough fuel in the car when I putted!

My heart sank at the end of the lap when the red text popped up telling me to pit. I spared a moment to pull my eyes away from the track to actually read it, and it said I had 1.2 laps of fuel left, just as I was literally about 1.2 laps from finishing. So I took it easy, fumbled around for the fuel mix dial and eventually set it a few notches down. All this while Iím navigating the course and stressing about the guy behind me, who was now closing that 6 second gap.

I lost the most time between Stavelot and Blanchimont, so I dared to turn the fuel up again. I coasted around the corner and hit the brakes for the bus stop, before crossing the line in first, 3 seconds clear and with 0.2 laps of fuel left.

I probably couldíve left it on full juice :p

LOL. How much you want to bet that if the field was more bunched up at the start, there would be tons of T1 L1 crashes and complaints about that? :)

November 5th, 2019, 10:25 AM
This has started to annoy me more (I know, right?) now that I've been lapping Spa. What's with the .500 second time penalty for cutting a curb, but not enforcing it until more than a lap later? If you're doing a qualifying run that means you lose the lap you're on, and then the next lap as well. You have to bomb out and Restart or waste up to 5 minutes. Booo.

Look for a change to this soon, people have discovered this and used it to exploit cutting the bus stop chicane and completing a lap before the penalty shows up, giving people super quick qualifying times or shortcuts on the final lap of the race. PD will probably fix the timing.

Yeah, because even the A ranked drivers still dive bomb on turn 1.....

November 6th, 2019, 04:59 AM
Some guys in the user rooms, who heard from Asia what the race was going to be, set it up with a standing start just to avoid the chicane. I remember a few idiots into Turn 1, but they weren't the usual S/A people I'd race with in the Daily Races.

Regarding standing vs rolling starts, I did a Nations Cup race last week at Maggiore in Gr2. It was a standing start, so they do have them. You have to hold your brake to avoid getting a jump start, and it feels pretty boss.

I went from 3rd to 2nd because the guy on pole completely bottled it and half-spun on the green light!

Iím now an A grade racer

I made the leap last night during one of this weekís daily races, which is at Spa again. A few mid-pack-to-podium races did the trick - one of which contained a bloody epic pass. Iíll upload a video of that replay tonight.

I seem to have Spa really dialled compared to the people I was racing against. It doesnít take long for me to get really comfortable with the circuit and start hassling people for places and it feels likeÖ a really nice pair of shoes. What?

Anyway moving on from that stupid analogy, Daily Race C is also very exciting. Itís in the Super Formula at Catalunya for 13 laps. Those things are really nice to drive but you have to be on it. They teach you lots about pin-sharp accuracy, as well as what low speed understeer truly is when youíre off the aero. I started 11th and came 5th in the race I did, and Iíd expect my lap times to tumble if I have more goes at it.

It might be a 993 GT2, but itís hard to tell without seeing the rear wing clearly.

Freude am Fahren
December 16th, 2019, 12:30 PM
Yeah definitely looks like a 993 GT of some sort. Probably the GT2/GT but maybe the Carrera RS, which I think had the same splitter and wing, but was narrowbody and NA.

Rare White Ape
December 16th, 2019, 12:45 PM
The RS is such a cool car, and somehow more aesthetically pleasing than the bonkers GT2.

Rare White Ape
December 17th, 2019, 05:48 AM
So we have confirmation of a few of the cars in this update:

The Porsche is indeed the Carrera RS
Mk1 Golf
Ford GT
Toyota Crown

I havenít seen the other three yet but they look like police or pace car variants of the Dodge Charger, Renault Megane and Toyota Crown.

Plus Laguna Seca is more than likely part of the update, which will be out in a few days.

In other happenings, anyone who completed the recent GR Supra survey should now be getting their N24h livery cars gifted to them. Sadly itís not a full replica of the car that actually raced - just a road car with a wing and different wheels to go with the paint job.

December 17th, 2019, 08:09 AM
I have been in a league with some buddies I used to autocross with. I drug Nate into the mix. We have a 1 hour Enduro tonight, le sarthe. We start qualifying at 7:35pm. Tire wear and fuel consumption are 7/5 respectively. I'll be running the 919 with a planned fuel trim of 5 until before Indianapolis and switch to 6. I should coast into the pits box with no fuel.

I'm estimating the race will take 16.5 laps when the timer runs out. So I'm planning on making a "hard" dash at the end with fuel trim at 4.

Planning on pitting 2 times total. Getting fresh tires each time as that adds only 8 or so seconds.

Lap 6
Lap 12

I am Super excited

December 17th, 2019, 08:31 AM
With it being limited to Gr.1 there is no Corvette for you to spin out and lose with, so that's good.

December 17th, 2019, 11:29 AM
Or blow up...

Rare White Ape
December 17th, 2019, 12:09 PM
Instead of using the fuel mixture settings, youíre definitely better off leaving it fully rich and instead just short-shifting, as well as employing the lift-and-coast method at the end of long straights. La Sarthe has plenty of opportunity for slipstreaming too, and youíll save heaps of fuel that way. Plus the 919 has a very strong electric boost from low speed so you can lean on that a bit just by adjusting your driving style.

Itís probably too late to change your pit strategy for tonightís race but itís good info to consider for the future.

December 17th, 2019, 01:57 PM
Agreed, if you're going to tone down the fuel economy you might be okay with 2, but you will save much more fuel with short shifting and coasting

December 17th, 2019, 04:49 PM
I don't see how coasting will give me 27 more Km of distance like the fuel trim does, while only losing 2-4 seconds a lap.

Rare White Ape
December 17th, 2019, 05:58 PM
It gives you more than using the trim. Keep it at full tilt and shift at about 1/2 revs. Youíll still get the punch out of the corners, which equals less time lost per straight, than if you used a lean mixture.

Iíve snagged podiums in the FIA series by doing this and nursing my car and tyres while people around me go flat out and wear out their tyres.

December 17th, 2019, 07:40 PM
It's the system all the FIA top guys use. I'm also not sure what you mean by 27km extra distance, you can still make stops every 6 laps.
