Yes. I want your money. But It's for a good cause. I promise.

As some of you may know, the state where I live has some, let's call them "issues" with public schools and teachers (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_Oaxaca_protests).

It's been difficult to find a solution to this conundrum; I believe in public education, I believe in the rights of workers, but at the same time I want a school that would take my kid 5 days a week and for at least 5 hours while I go, you know, work. Along the way, we found this group of people who also want the same, have an educational model as close as possible to a public school but with a more open curricula. We've been sending Bruno to Paz Montessori Oaxaca (http://www.pazmontessori.com/), and although it looks like a place where only traveling hippies and Austin City hipsters send their kids, it's actually a long term project looking to educate disadvantaged children in conflict solving and peace. As the above link shows, some of that is needed down here.

Kelly Bodtke, the school's founder, has been working with a number of charities in Texas and they've helped her set up shop with the intention of giving local kids grants to study at her school. As part of my initial plea and commitment to Bruno's education I said that I was gonna ask my friends and relatives abroad to chip in with whatever they could. So GTX dudes and dudettes, this is your time for altruism and tax deductions!

I like what you are doing. When I am back home and in front of my finances I will see what I can do.

I'll talk to my wife in the next few days and see what we can do. I'll also share it around the anthro dept at school, I imagine that it might get a few bites.
Good luck

Tax deductible... if I send a check.

Hmmm. Decisions. Time to call the bookkeeper. And by call, I mean email.

Yeah, well.

Longer commutes, a feeling of unease for everybody and then those whose livelihoods depend on tourism are a bit worried. I'm hoping the worst is over, but with mexican politics you never know.
