Make sure you get fully compliant USB-C/3.0 cables for safety and compatibility. A Google engineer is buying dozens of types off of Amazon, dissecting them and posting reviews here (http://www.amazon.com/gp/pdp/profile/A25GROL6KJV3QG/ref=cm_cr_rdp_pdp?tag=gizmodoamzn-20&ascsubtag=a1f24b261618fc800cd4dbe99f85488b68e08ac5&rawdata=%5Br%7Chttp%3A%2F%2Fgizmodo.com%2Fa-google-engineer-is-publicly-shaming-crappy-usb-c-cabl-1742719818%5Bt%7Clink%5Bp%7C1742719818%5Bau%7C5836 322932740811680)

I don't think I would buy a single thing from any of those brands he's testing. BesYee? Kupx? Nekteck? Really???

The irony is that anybody who would buy from those brands isn't going to read his blog, and anyone who reads his blog wouldn't buy those parts in the first place!

I love cheap cables... but, I like making informed decisions too. I'll check it out later. ;)

USB-C took a play from Apple, so each cable has a little chip in it that tells the host what it's there for. Makes cables relatively expensive. But, being able to use a single cable for peripherals, network, and display is ginormous, not to mention a reversible plug, huge bandwidth, and a 5v/3a power handling ability. You could just about run a monitor from one cable... that could easily be a thing with next-generation displays.

I haven't really read up on type-c at all yet. I didn't realize they were that versatile. I thought they were just a power/bandwidth improvement.

My wife's new Nexus 6p has one and I'm guessing most all new phones going forward will.

We were at Target and they had regular 2.0 3ft cables on sale for $20. :smh:

That is not a bad price, really, Best I've seen yet on a likely reliable cable is Monoprice at $15, so Target at $20 is not out of whack. I am sure Best Buy has them for $50 or something.

Really? Just for a basic USB 2.0 (http://www.target.com/p/belkin-2-0-usb-cable-black-f2cu032bt06/-/A-49178056#prodSlot=medium_1_4&term=usb+2.0) cable?

Yes, because the C side has to have some smarts in it. :)

For a few months now, we’ve known that some USB Type-C cable manufacturers are making cables so poor they could damage your hardware. Now, Amazon is finally banning them.

As Google software engineer and product review hero Benson Leung points out, Amazon has added a line to their prohibited electronics list stating that any USB Type-C cable that is not compliant with standard specifications will be banned from Amazon.

Good deal - nice to hear they're paying attention!
