Certainly makes the ST look like a steaming pile of doo-doo. Can't wait to hear specifics on it.

According to latest indications, the third-generation Focus RS is again likely to be front-wheel drive. It will draw its power from a turbocharged 2.3-litre, four-cylinder EcoBoost engine seen in the recently launched Mustang.

A power output of about 330bhp has been mooted for the RS, while a limited-slip differential and Ford’s innovative, torque-steer-reducing RevoKnuckle front suspension system will again feature in its mechanical specification.

Now I can say this... It's AWD. (And 320hp). :D

The other significant number we don’t have yet is the RS’s weight. The additional bulk of the four-wheel-drive system means the RS is certain to tip the scales at more than the 3234 pounds of our long-term Focus ST.

LHutton

At a guess we're looking at >3400lb then.

The specs came out last week, but we all forgot to update this thread.

http://wot.motortrend.com/1506_official_2016_ford_focus_rs_makes_345_hp_324_ lb_ft.html

The 2016 Ford Focus RS hatchback’s 2.3-liter engine puts out 345 hp and 324 lb-ft of torque...
-------
That’s a whole 35 hp more than the 2.3-liter turbo-four makes in the 2015 Ford Mustang EcoBoost, and Ford says the engine is “significantly upgraded” for use in the Focus RS.
-------
The engine has a redline of 6,800 rpm, and the max torque output of 324 lb-ft is produced between 2,000 and 4,500 rpm. The Focus RS also has an overboost feature that can provide up to 346 lb-ft for 15 seconds at a time.

Volvo started doing that in the '90s, and Ford continued the tradition even after they dumped Volvo off on the side of the road sticky, broken, and confused.

So, truth be told, I've been incredibly bored with life lately, so I've been spending way too much time (and probably in the future money) on mods ;)

The wide body/flare stuff I've seen on the FiST rally/racers is so freaking rad that I want something similar for the street, but most of it is damned ugly. A couple I found that are pretty good though (imo):

We tried to get a test drive today as a nearby dealer has one in stock, but they told us to piss off. We're arrived in a FiST, which we thought might count for something. Next week we're going to try again and borrow the Quattroporte.

These guys always have the hot Fords and never give test drives. Back in the day it was pulling teeth just to get some wheel time in a Focus SVT. I didn't even ask what the asking price was, but these numbskulls are Home of the $100k Mustang. so probably not cheap. :smh:

Someday there is going to be a Jalopnik article about a California dealer being liquidated and having a warehouse full of undriven, 20 year old tuner Fords and the internet will go wild.

Jason
August 12th, 2016, 11:02 AM
I don't understand the reasoning behind not allowing test drives... do they not want to sell cars? Sure there's a risk of abuse, but I feel like they care about that, they can figure out ways to mitigate without giving potential customers a hard time.

Kchrpm
August 12th, 2016, 11:37 AM
Abuse and mileage. Someone that comes in wanting a rare, expensive car might care if it has 10 miles vs 30 or 40. Also joy riders. Also, if they're only getting a few in, and you need to test drive it before you buy it, you're less likely to be the emotional buyer that's going to bend over and take whatever price/financing they throw at you.

thesameguy
August 12th, 2016, 04:28 PM
Yeah, that stuff. But in the case of that SVT I had intended to buy... if they had not wasted my time to point I had to leave, I would have. It's insane to expect anyone to buy any car without a drive of the specific car or a very clear return policy. ;)

I see both sides of the equation, but as the consumer mine one side is more important.

thesameguy

I'd buy a rare car I was committed to and had no choice, and I'd buy a cheap car I could get back out of and not care, but a commodity production car? Hells no. Seat time or no dime. In part, it's the principle of the matter - if you want me to trust you that it's a good product, you're going to need to trust me that I'm going to take care of it. If we can't have that relationship, you can fuck right off.

It's a Focus Zetec S with the 1.6l Ecoboost putting out 182PS or about 180HP. £7.8k in a private sale with 38k on the clock and I'm very happy with it.

Remove the rear seats so you can save weight to get closer to a FiST. Tell the kids they can sit on the floor.

You can also just use bungees and the trunk tie downs.

Interesting mix of FiST and Focus elements: Focus body with the bigger ST hatch spoiler, the FiST rear bumper "diffuser," and the turbo-1.6.

Neat. :)

(But not an ST--eff off! :finger:)

(However, you are eligible for membership into the GTX Black Turbo HB Club, if it's any consolation? :rawk:)

Judging by the conversation I had this week with a friend who is management at a local Ford dealer, I could cut a deal on a 39 month lease on a Fiesta ST for zero down and about $250 a month, before tax.

I've just got A) nowhere to put it, and B) no use for it.

Newest FiST: http://www.autoblog.com/2017/02/24/new-ford-fiesta-st-official-three-cylinder-197-hp/

TL;DR:
197hp
1.5-liter 3-cyl
Moar torques
Port injection and DI
18" wheels (good grief)

speedpimp
February 24th, 2017, 04:55 PM
Interesting. The 17"s are almost too much, let alone 18"s. Definitely intrigued.

A well-tuned triple can make a really fun noise. It's really not much smaller than the outgoing 1.6L, and it's not like the old engine was a revver, so bigger displacement-per-cylinder doesn't seem like much of a detriment.

thesameguy
March 9th, 2017, 02:03 PM
It has been revealed we may get both 3-door and 5-door this time around. I think that makes a lot of people happy, but I'd still for the 5-door. :)

I can't wait for one of these to get wrecked. If it happens fast enough I am totally putting a 3-cylinder Ecoboost in the Falcon.

Why not just wait for a totaled RS and drop that drive train into the Flaco?

200hp and 2100lbs is a plenty good formula for a tin can like the Falcon! Putting a tiny 3cyl where big ass 6 was is just icing on the cake. ;)

Would probably have enough room for a frunk with the wee 3-cyl up there. :D

thesameguy
March 9th, 2017, 03:57 PM
At least! I think the biggest problem would be fitting the accessories, since the shock towers would be directly in the way. OTOH, with a 3-cylinder it would probably be very front-mid-engine, and I probably don't need power steering and there is no air conditioning. So, just an alternator and water pump. I suspect the F:R balance would be extraordinary. :D

Random
March 9th, 2017, 04:05 PM
It's a pretty tight package front/rear. I think you'd have plenty of room.

(TWSS?)

edit: FiST is electric power steering. Maybe carry that over too?

thesameguy
March 9th, 2017, 07:16 PM
I wouldn't rule it out, but all the power steering kits are really pricey. For a car that light, I'm not sure it'd be worth the money!

novicius
March 10th, 2017, 04:17 AM
Why don't you just look for a 2014 Ford Fiesta SFE drivetrain at one of the Armenian scrapyards for the Falcon? Get that cheaper mill to work sooner? ;)

thesameguy
March 10th, 2017, 06:23 AM
If it's going to be a 4 cylinder, I'd just as soon stick with the Duratec that has numerous configuration & installation options rather than go to the added trouble of a direct-injected, expensive engine. ;)

novicius
March 10th, 2017, 06:45 AM
SFE is the EcoBoost 1.0L three-cylinder.

thesameguy
March 10th, 2017, 08:49 AM
Whoops, didn't see that SFE bit! Do you know what (if any) internal and/or software differences there between that and the current 200hp version?

novicius
March 10th, 2017, 10:12 AM
Probably a lot!

Nope, I don't know. But Ford has a long, long history of fiddlin' with their motors from year-to-year. Quite possible they've made structural changes to the 1.0L block between the two generations, much less internals like rods, pistons, crank, variable cam timing hardware, sensors, etc.

thesameguy
March 10th, 2017, 10:21 AM
They do - and their software security keeps getting better! Unless a big player like Cobb gets involved with tuning, hacking the ECMs can be a problem. Totally relevant point: The one or two year only ECM in the '05 Focus I parted isn't very tunable at all. :(

KillerB
March 11th, 2017, 10:21 AM
Well, there's the internal differences that punch the three-cylinder out to 1.5L in the 2018 FiST for starters...

thesameguy
March 11th, 2017, 07:59 PM
Oh, snap... I suppose there is that!

I wonder if the deck height is different? Probably gotta be...

novicius
March 13th, 2017, 05:32 AM
1.5L? Damn, takes away some of the magic that is a torquey 1.0L turbo triple. :hard: #hustle

thesameguy
March 13th, 2017, 08:22 AM
1.5l still falls into the magic ".5l per cylinder" so it should be a nice runner.

Was at the dealer this morning getting my FiST looked at and wandered around the showroom where they had a FoRS. Next to the normal window sticker was one for dealer added options and this one read "Adjusted Market Value $2500." So $45k all in. No thanks. It looks really good in Grabber Blue though.

A new Fiesta ST in Maryland was available with a $4,500 discount, providing a selling price of $18,664 plus necessary taxes, title and license fees. Ford's $750 customer cash is a part of that, as is $500 in 'Bonus Cash'. But we also assume you can dicker your way to further discounts, down into the $17s, and, well, who knows. The sales manager we spoke with assured us we could assume whatever we wanted.

The 2017 is the last model, Ford won't be bringing the 2018 Fiesta lineup to the US.

Rumor has it, to be replaced with some sort of CUV here, but who knows.

The new Ford Fiesta ST is due to arrive in Ford showrooms in early 2018.

Power will come from a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 197bhp. That’s a 19bhp increase on the old ST and the same output as the previous generation ST200. Incidentally, the new ST’s 214lb ft of torque is the same as the old ST200 model and helps the car accelerate from 0-62mph in 6.7sec.
