The Honda oF Doom is no more.

As mentioned elsewheres.... Some asshole in a Jeep JK pulled out blindly in front of us on a fairly busy 80 kph road. I had maybe 4 car lengths to make a decision, noticed there was no opposing traffic at that very moment, so I headed for the ditch on the opposing side. For some reason, his response, after being stopped basically dead center of my lane, was to creep FURTHER forward into the opposing lane. So instead of missing him and just ditching it, he bork'd us.

With the exception of being rear-ended gently at a stop light a couple years ago, this my first-ever accident, of any kind. Having raced cars since I was 12, I'm used to wrecks, so it didn't phase me at all. Other than wanting to kill the fucker, I was fine. BUT, Tara is still recovering from the severe concussion she suffered in that rear-ending. So I was completely shit-fucked terrified for her, as her head is now as fragile as a Faberge egg. Had I been alone in the car the situation wouldn't have bothered me nearly as much.

Poor little Honda. She took us on a 2-week, 8000+ km tour of the Canadian Maritimes without so much as a puff of smoke. RIP.

Now back on track. A five year old Civic may not seem like a big deal to most, but it's the first car made in the 21st century that I've owned. And it's very low mileage (70,000 km) and very, very nice. 2010 LX Sport. A small advantage to my biggest customer also being a car dealer.

It has a leather-wrapped steering wheel! A moonroof! And heated mirrors! WTF are those!? I can't even.

Heated mirrors are the bomb-diggety (the kids still say that, right?). I miss my heated mirrors. :(

Heated mirrors are better than a rear window defroster.

The gauges auto-dimming at night when I turn the headlights on may be mankind's greatest achievement.

Why would you need heated mirrors?

To dry off his beach towels.

We used heated mirrors when it snows to melt the snow/ice on our mirrors, as a Californian we assume that is not an issue for you.

It gets frosty here! That's why I signed up for AAA - so I'd have a thin plastic card to scrape ice off the windshield in the morning!

Plus, my car lives outside, so the mirrors get fogged up with condensation/dew.

Indeed. And it's a very good idea, because years of hacking away at your sideview mirrors with an ice scraper greatly increase the chances of fucking them up.

Or, you know, covering them up prevents the snow and ice from ever forming on them.

But sometimes the weather is too tricksey for that!
Like last Friday (or maybe it was Saturday?), when I checked the forecast at 11pm, and then woke up to 1/2" of icy snow.

Tee hee hee! You sound like me, except I haven't yet gone over to the dark side of 21st century automobiles. [/scoff]

Congrats! That looks really good. I like the tinted but not-too-tinted windows, too.

Well, we'll see ya in about fifteen or twenty years when it's time for a newer Honda.

The combined km of all of my 21st century automobiles is far below that of this Civic's.

Well la-tee-da Mr. Frenchman. :finger:

Don't worry, I still have the Ferd Fteenthousand, a 1992 Suzuki Sidekick and an LS-swap S-10 project for my street cred. :hard:

You have to realise that on a "very heavy" week I drive maybe 180km. MAX.

That's been two days of office commuting for me before.

And I do 450-500+ kms a wk

For the longest time, living close to work was the priority, so I didn't put much on the car other than road trips. But since we moved to the Ranch, it's roughly 100km per day. Big change for me, after years of not driving much--but at least it truly is like 90% highway.
