Don't ask me how this thread has never happened before...there are a lot of funny license plates out there. Like this one.

Literally all that I can think of is Debridement (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debridement). Which is an extremely gross process where dead/infected flesh is medically removed from a person.
So I assume this person is a medical professional.

So since we last spoke, Maine has relaxed their censorship over vanity plates based on a New Hampshire freedom of speech lawsuit over a plate that said COPSLIE. So I've seen Maine vanity plates that said FUKITT, FKN-TRKN and CMYX4BJ. Some more here (http://mainememes.com/category/license-plates/).

And I'm still collecting, so if you've got unwanted license plate clutter, I can help :)

No cool personalized plates to post, but you'll be happy to know that the new California black plates have become wildly popular. Judging by how many I see, I'd guess that at least 10% of the new cars sold here are getting them.

May 27th, 2017, 07:58 AM
I've seen a lot of pictures of them, I wouldn't doubt you're correct. Bummer that the blue Legacy plates didn't garner enough support - those are some of my favorite plates of all time.

Also, if anyone's reached the end of the internet, part of my collection is here: http://platevault.com/billsproull35

I posted this somewhere else (car spotting? fails?), but I saw a Honda Odyssey with the plate "JDM ODY" I think it had some aftermarket wheels, but it was otherwise stock.

+1

the Ford Explorer Sport Adrenaline I posted on the car sightings thread had an ADRNLIN plate or something.

Does Wisconsin ever change their plate design?

Also I wish Indianas were still stamped and not the screen printed aluminum sheet they are currently.

Wisconsin plates have been basically the same since 1986, with minor changes in 1987, 1995 and 2000.

And agreed on the Indiana plates. Flat plates are almost all horrible-looking, but at least some states use a legible typeface for the registration numbers. Indiana uses a terrible default 3M typeface that is ugly and hard to read. So do DC, Idaho, Iowa and others - you can see the difference between those and other current US flat plates on a friend's epically thorough website here (http://15q.net/curr.html).

Carlo - I'm not usually a fan of vanity plates, but that one is ace.

I think if Indiana quit changing the stupid design every time there's a new plate to issue we'd be better off. I also don't really see why any state needs to have some special plate to show off state things.

Also apparently Indiana has Pearl Harbor Survivor plates available. Sadly I wonder how much longer they'll offer those. There can't be too many eligible for them in the entire US anymore.

I'm always tempted to get a Sheriffs Association plate with some sort of not a cop personalization on it for the Crown Vic or a DARE plate if we still had the all black ones.

Okay. I guess I'll be the one who has to ask. What does AF mean?

I'll probably palm-slap my forehead when I hear whatever obviousness it is that my tiny brain can't figure out.

Quiz time!

For pl8ster or anyone who is capable of challenging his pl8tular expertise:

This very afternoon, while walking to get some lunch from my office, we walked right past this mailbox on a door in the city. Many a head snapped for double - even triple - takes as we beheld a sight sure to please any license plate aficionado. Okay, it might have been just me who noticed, but they were kind enough to wait for me to snap a picture or two.

Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to identify these four partial license plates. :D

I'm pretty sure the "1"s are both old Kansas Plates - We used yellow on green several times going back to at least the 50's and I think as late as the mid-early 70s. The white on blue was used from the mid 70s to 81 or 82, I think.

Not sure if you track this kind of thing. Late last year PA went to a no sticker registration. They took the indendation out of the plate and replaced it with the outline of the state. The older plate was issued in February 2017 and the newer one was issued on Saturday. Snapped a pick for you to show what I mean.

Remember how I mentioned that Maine has relaxed its stance on offensive vanity plates? That stance has now become a total lack of censorship, you can literally get anything on a vanity plate here if it isn't already taken.

So this happened. Now I just need a green '73 Impala.

So, yeah, I do still collect these. 2021 was actually the best year yet for the collection. This is just about all of the ones I added to the collection last year, unfortunately I was going by the pictures in my phone to get the group together and totally forgot the two that gm gave me when I saw him.

Texas has a crazy amount of plates, but a bunch of them are pre-order only right now, and once they get 200 preoreders, they make them.

I was going to get one of there Carbon Fiber look plates for the M2, until I saw they finally have a University of Florida design coming, so I preordered that. Turns out the Carbon Fiber ones were back to pre-order anyway.

My new plate (if it gets made) will look like this:

3862

If it doesn't, it looks like the carbon fiber is available, so I'll get that, though I'm not sure which. I think the star because of that pointless white part on the bottom of the regular one.

Wait, you can get a University of Florida license plate in Texas?

I guess whatever brings in the money is fair game. And it's nice to see a smaller school get some recognition for a change. ;)

Freude am Fahren
January 20th, 2022, 01:22 PM
Yeah, you can get loads of other universities from around the nation too. Lots of other states do that too. I've seen a lot from Virginia I think.

They used to have a UF plate that was more geared towards the university as a school, rather than a sports team. That was was boring but much cheaper.

I think these are great. The only thing that would make them better is if they were all embossed like the olden days, but I'm still really digging the retro vibe.

One of the best vanity plates I've seen in a long time, I recently saw a plate on a minivan that said "ICAVED"
