The Local Motors Thread

Figured I'd start an official thread as there's been some interesting things happening.

For those who may not be too familiar with Local Motors, it's a bit of a crowd-sourcing, small manufacturer that has 3D printed cars and now something new...


First was the Rally Fighter

Now introduced today was the Olli...an automated bus...fully self-driving and powered by IBM's Watson (so it can beat Jeopardy and drive at the same time!):

Only issue i've heard of with using 3d printing for stuff such as that is its somewhat brittle and prone to splitting at the layer lines.

I do still want a Rally Fighter though.

Btw, they have a motorcycle as well although its basically a customized up Harley.



Edit - those Olli things would probably be awesome for a college campus depending on the actual size of the thing. if its a campus with big wide sidewalks it could literally drop students at the front door of a building.

The Rally Fighter wasn't 3D printed and have you heard about issues specifically with these cars, because I know they have carbon fiber interlaced with the plastic as well for rigidity.
