So I wanna do a search for something that was mentioned many ages ago, right, and I type in my keywords and hit the magic button.

I'm presented with a link to a thread. Which is fine. It narrows it down somewhat.

Trouble is, I already knew which thread to look in, and the thread is 30+ pages long. Some threads here are hundreds of pages. It's a bit silly.

Is there a way to drill down to the specific post that the thing I want was mentioned, or even a list of posts that have matching keywords with links directly to them? I can't find it if there is.

You can search within a thread by clicking "Search Thread" in the header above the posts. :)

I noticed that a long time ago.

What I can't believe I didn't notice until recently is that with threads with unread messages in them, there's a little icon to the left of the subject and if you click it instead of the subject to open the thread, when it opens the page it will scroll to the first message in the thread that you haven't read before. Very handy.
