View Full Version : The Note 7 explosions

So it's just recently been reported that the Note 7 that caught fire on a plane (while it was on the ground) was one of the supposedly "safe" replacement devices.

This is really bad. I mean, ok, the initial issue wasn't great, but hey, companies make mistakes, even big ones. Whatever, if they identify the problem and fix it, no problem. But for them to say "Ok, it's all good now." And then STILL have phones catch on fire, that really erodes my trust. I held off getting a new Note because of the cost, thinking I might pick one up whenever they get cheaper, but now I just don't know if I can ever trust the phone not to be dangerous.

Apple reportedly is having some issues with their iPhone 7 as well.

its not like there's never been a phone battery explode before.

FWIW we've been discussing this in the catch-all Android phone thread.

I looked in it a little bit, seemed like we were discussing everything else. Besides, what's the point of having a technology forum if we stuff everything into one thread?

Yeah, I think it's significant enough with this new story to have its own thread, no worries.

I think I head somewhere before it started blowing up that Samsung was on the verge of active cooling.

Stuff happens. Don't buy them. Why bother?

Some people have to be special.

I wasn't suggesting that we should, just letting you know there was some other discussion you might want to see.

I thought 7 was supposed to be a lucky number. :(

It would be totally different if the OP had one of them fancy ass Note 7s to complain about.

Maybe it's because they skipped 6, so it's not really 7.

I still think the reasoning behind skipping to 7 from 5 is absurd.

They said they did it because they didn't want people thinking the Note was old tech because its number lagged behind that of the regular Galaxy phones.

Actual owner complaints occurred (are occurring) in the Android thread and have been for three weeks.

Re Apple's 'problem': There's been all of two reported in recent time (one 7, one 6S)... whereas Samsung has had enough Note 7s explode that they were forced to issue a full recall. Not sure if there's much of a comparison there. Batteries exploding in isolated incidents are relatively normal (ie, when there's a million sold, a couple exploding isn't out of the norm), but the problems Samsung had with the Note 7 was/is something different.

But he doesn't have the Note 7 and isn't affected by the problem in any way, yet started this new thread?!

All it takes is one screw up at the battery factory and you have a large patch of potential battery explosions.
Even a misplaced line of code in the software that monitors battery charging would d it as well i'd bet.
I'm fairly certain that literally every product thats used batteries in all of history has had at least one battery issue with fires or acid everywhere..

I do wonder wtf the Samsung issue is since the most recent Note 7 to go up was allegedly one of the replacement ones.
