Yes that's a million 911s
Porsche just hit that milestone, amazing for a car that could have easily disappeared but has become one of the longest running and most iconic cars (not just sports cars)
It's changed very little in the 50 odd years it's been around. The look has evolved slowly and obviously the engineering but the car is still rear engined flat 6. Ok it's now water cooled and as of the most recent version all the non-GT cars are turbo but it's kept the core identity.
Also amazing how iconic and desirable it has be become. It has been the bench mark sports car for most of its life, maybe getting some bloat recently but it's been a car that can just go to the track and do the business when many of its competitors have been straight line queens or lean more to GT.
It's racing pedigree is second to none, ranging from production based thru to prototype, it's competed in dirt rallies and Le Mans.
It came 5th in the "car of the century" award, beaten by its mother the Beetle. It's the only one of the top 5 that's still going in continuous production (hard to argue the new Mini is even closely related to the original)

So I just wanted to put up this post with some of my thoughts to mark this massive milestone.
I know some here have owned them (not me) and many have driven them.
I'm sure most of the rest have it on their bucket list.
So stop and take a moment to acknowledge a truly great car that has kept the spirit of motoring pleasure going for many years and hopefully many more to come.

And then think about all the idiots who get a # plate with "911" on it, yet keep the plate after they change to a Ferrari or something similar.

Cool story, bro: http://media.chevrolet.com/media/us/en/chevrolet/home.detail.html/content/Pages/news/us/en/2015/sep/0903-corvette.html

Just kidding, good on Porsche for doing their thing for so long, and doing it damn well.

the 1 millionth car is also a quite gorgeous, if understated Carrera S in Irish Green with wood accents.

It will be, of course, just a museum piece though.

That actually works, and I loathe faux-wood interiors. Probably because the early '00s BMW faux-wood was terrible.

German car is Irish green.

Wtf?

I believe it's to reflect the first 911:

I've read that, but haven't actually been able to find 911 no.1, or the first 911, or 901 definitively.

Hmm, I wonder if the 1 million includes the some 80 or so 901's?

It should have been silver or grey, since 999,000 of the million have been silver or grey!
I did see a shot of the computer display in the car and it said 1,000,000 in the place where the model normally appears.

The other amazing thing is how many are still on the road. Helped because Porsche still do parts and servicing for all their models no matter how old.

It's cool that they chose a relatively normal car to build as the millionth, rather than a crazy one-off special or a GT3 RS.

Not a fan of the wood but the green is awesome.

As I mentioned in the GT4 thread I finally got my first drive of one a few weekends ago and what a great car. I'm probably not as much of a fan of the absolute latest stuff but when you look at what they've done with the latest GT3 you can't be too critical. Well deserves their position as thing the benchmark sports car.

Briefly drove an air cooled one (1985?).
Possibly the best car I've ever driven. Very mechanical, direct and precise. It's like someone took today's engineering but didn't add all the electronic gizmos, excessive insulation, airbags, ...

I really liked my 99, the fragility of the engine and the monthly payment pissed me off.

Well, it didn't piss me off, I wanted a new motorcycle. We all know how THAT story ended up.

I was looking for a thread to resurrect and this one will do.

Chris Harris tours the Porsche GT garage with head of department Andreas Preuninger, and gets a sneak peek of the new 992 GT3.

It's so hot.

And you WILL be able to put aside 40 minutes to watch this incredibly interesting discussion.

New 992 GT3 fully unveiled.

Over 500HP in a naturally aspirated engine.

Sub-7-minute Nürburgring lap time.

And you can pick a three-pedal gearbox if you like.

Nice!
Would love one, but I think as an unemployed bum I’m lucky to have my Boxster.
Ps IMOA - you still checking in?

In all honesty I think the Cayman GT4 (I thought you had one of those DN) is the pinnacle of Porsche's hot-rod output. Small, mid-engined, most of the same go-fast bits as the 911 GT3. And it looks SO HOT.

I'd buy one of those over a GT3.

Boxster Spyder - same engine/gearbox as GT4, shares the front and rear panels, so I have a GT vent at the front.
Didnt get the suspension or brakes, but its still uprated from the other Boxsters.
