Anyone else playing F1 2017? I'm probably a bit late to it, but I'm really enjoying it. I'm pretty slow still I think, but I did my first (full) weekend, 100% race distance in Australia last night. Fucked up and finished 15th in a Haas (last running). But qualified 7th. On to Bahrain.

I can't figure out how to get a triple screen setup going. Some games it seems, you don't have to set up you computer in Surround/Eyefinity mode, they can just do it, like PCars2. I think iRacing can too, but I use windowed mode to get around it. Haven't turned surround back on to see if a 5XXX x 1080 option is available in F1 2017, but that's probably the only way, if it's possible at all. I hate using surround.

I think the last one I played of the series was 2013 maybe? I felt like I bought a few of them because they kept luring me back, then I'd play it for a short time and just get irritated with it.

I have to admit the lack of support for VR also makes me less likely to pick this up. Given the endorsement though, maybe I'll get it when it ends up on a Steam sale.

Obviously, it's very limited (and eventually repetative), since it's just an F1 game (with some historics thrown in), so it's probably a better sale buy, or even a rent, if that's still a thing. But for what it is, it's fun. I like going through all the session, and doing the practice programs and such.

I wonder if it's gotten any better on the handling front. I felt like I couldn't drive them for shit, and I honestly don't think I ever made it past the second race of the career in any F1 game I've bought. Nothing since (and I might be misremembering the title) F1 '99-'02, that one I got pretty far into, but that was a *looooong* time ago.

I’ve got a ‘copy’ of F1 2015 and it is excellent. Perfectly accessible and challenging simcade handling. I had a good go of 2014 on the PS3 and I’ve found that they’ve progressed a lot since that era and the current gen games are really good.

I’m in the process of buying a new wheel and a cheap racing seat, and the newest game is on my eventual shopping list for a good low-intensity racing game to complement Assetto and PC2.

don't they have some older F1 cars you can drive in 2017? I thought I saw a video about that, and hearing the V10 roar is SO MUCH better than the crap engi...err...."power unit" noises these days.

Yeah, I just did a special event where I had to pass a bunch of MP4/4's while driving an FW18, and the other option involved a Benetton or Renault of some recent vintage.

Here's the list, actually:

1988 McLaren MP4/4
1991 McLaren MP4/6
1992 Williams FW14B
1995 Ferrari 412 T2
1996 Williams FW18
1998 McLaren MP4-13
2002 Ferrari F2002
2004 Ferrari F2004
2006 Renault R26
2007 Ferrari F2007
2008 McLaren MP4-23
2010 Red Bull RB6

Wish there would have been more from the '60-'90

Decent list

One of my childhood dreams was to have a racing game that encompassed every car and every track from every year of F1, and career mode brought you on that journey from the beginning.

It’ll happen one day…

Saw these were on sale on XBL last night, got 2016 for 8 USD (2017 was 15 USD).
Anything I should know before I spend 2+ hours practicing and qualifying then Maldonado'ing out on the first lap?

Yeah; don’t run into anything and you’ll be fine :p

Man, the only car I can keep straight is the McLaren; that Honda puts down some very tractable power.
Everything else I tried seems to pull to the right after the tires have some wear on them.

I like the AI, they're pretty considerate and accurate: the only run-in I had that wasn't my fault is when Crash Verstappen punted me for no apparent reason.

High realism, imo.

I’m going to resurrect this thread just to show this footage of F1 2019, which comes out just prior to the end of June.

This is a real step-up in visual quality.

yes, I heard there's been some breakthrough in lighting technology lately which has really enhanced the quality of new games coming out.

Edit: The only thing I still want to see changed is minor undulations when you see the cars exterior...it still feels like they're driving on glass most of the time when you look at it.

Obviously this is pre-release footage, and running on a high spec PC.
