Red Dead 2, Death Stranding, Assassin’s Creed Oddyssey, Anthem, Smash Bros., Beyond Good and Evil 2, Crackdown 2, Fallout 76, The Last Of Us Part II, and… uhh, Pokémon Let’s Go!

It’s all happening in three days.

What else?

Metroid Prime 4? Halo 6? Forza Horizon 4? Star Wars? Splinter Cell?

I’m tipping that Sony and Nintendo won’t have any show-stopping surprise announcements, but that Microsoft will try and make the biggest splash. Gosh-darn they need it. No new hardware will be announced; we’re about 18 months too early for that.

What are you guys hoping for?

Let’s squish this one in early why not?

Possibly the best game trailer ever made.

Same folks who made Rez Infinite, which is still one of my favorite games on the Rift. I hope it comes to the Rift, I really don't feel like buying PSVR just for that.

best game trailer ever made except it looks like 99.9% of it is nothing to do with the actual game I'm guessing? (I mean I could be wrong, but it's quite trippy for a Tetris game)

Rare White Ape

Have you played Rez? Trippyness is the name of that game. It’s possibly more of a music-art-experience than it is a game of Tetris, and Sony is willing to throw money at it (they do what Microsoftdon’t) and it’ll come off splendidly.

In other news, the existence of Sonic Racing was leaked by Walmart, AC Odyssey was leaked via Reddit (I think...) and another game has become a victim of early E3 press materials going live, and that’s Just Cause 4, which was briefly spotted on the Steam storefront.

I mildly enjoyed the simple destructive mayhem of JC3, and I have similar expectations for its sequel. Hopefully it’ll run at over 15fps this time.

Admittedly I have not, so maybe I missed the reference :)

Fun fact about Rez - it's actually an old Dreamcast game that, in Japan, came with a peripheral called the "Trance Vibrator". They did not sell that peripheral here.

It's also *way easier* with VR, at least on the Rift. Before it was hard as hell to aim with the reticule using the joystick, now you just point your hand at what you want to shoot.

Rez is awesome. I bought on X360 back in the day and really enjoyed it. I would LOVE to try it in VR. I’ve yet to try Lumines tho (it’s from the same designer) but that’s coming to Switch soon so that’ll fix it.

Seems like you'll be playing traditional Tetris, but with transparent blocks, and music/art experience backgrounds going at all times.

EA has announced the name of Respawn’s Star Wars game and it’s Jedi: Fallen Order. It’s set between Eposide 3 and 4, during the rise of the Empire period, when the last of the Jedi are being hunted and killed. They’ve slated a holiday ‘19 release window.

Here’s what you all wanted to see:

Destiny-meets-Iron Man game Anthem. Feb 22 next year. EA press conference “No loot boxes, no loot boxes, no loot boxes. Also did we mention it’ll have no loot boxes?”

Also a gameplay trailer with no gameplay.

The above gameplay video looping with commentary from a YouTuber that has played it.

Notes from these and other videos:

Basics
- Launches February 22, 2019
- Always online, even story modes
- Story elements can be played solo, doesn't seem like difficulty scales
- As RWA said, no loot boxes
- No ability to buy gameplay items with real money, only cosmetics
- No Mass Effect/Dragon Age-style romances
- The story concept is that you're on a world where the machines used to create it are still there, so they have a canonical excuse to modify or add areas

Classes/Leveling
- Four Javelin classes: Ranger (all-around), Colossus (tank), Storm (mage, glass cannon), Interceptor (fast)
- You can level up your pilot, with your own perks, and have multiple Javelins with different classes and loadouts
- There is scaling fall damage for the different Javelins: Colossus takes no fall damage, Storm does
- Each class has a unique melee (Colossus has/can do a ground pound)

Weapons/Attachments
- Each Javelin has two weapon slots, two attachment slots, and an ultimate ability slot
- Attachments seen so far seem to be shield, flamethrower, pulse cannon, freeze grenade, and mortars
- Weapons and attachments are both loot items, with varying levels and types (example given was mortars can fire one or several explosives)
- Only ultimate ability seen so far, I think, is the Ranger's lock-on missile barrage

Gameplay
- Flying is not unlimited: you have to manage heat, either by landing or flying through water
- Lots of verticality, with underwater caverns and ledges/treetops to land on and take off from
- Reloading and swapping weapons is the same button: press to reload, hold to swap

Microsoft has announced three new Gears of War games. First off, there’s GoW 5 in the mainline series, then Gears Tactics, which will be an XCOM-style tactics shooter, and finally Gears Pop, which will be a mobile game associated with those FunkoPop bobble heads you see everywhere. High hopes for that one!

CDPR released a new trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 and it looks great. Who knows what it will be about?

They’ve got no release date yet, so my little hunch is that it may end up being a cross-gen game appearing on the next Xboxes and PlayStations. They’ve put too much work into it for it to be left in this generation.

Busy day with Microsoft announcing half the AAA games that are coming to all platforms, and conveniently leaving Sony free to cover their four big exclusives for the next 18 months, followed by Bethesda with more than a few good things on the way including Doom, above. There are two new RPGs coming in the future via the publisher.

One is called Starfield, and it’s a sci-fi RPG which is set, presumably, in the future:

https://youtu.be/JUobbpHERh8

The other is The Elder Scrolls 6, a medieval RPG which is set, presumably, in the past:

Bethesda also has something for those patient little fans of killing Nazis with Wolfenstein Youngblood, a game set in Paris in 1980 in which you play as BJ’s twin daughters, and set about killing Nazis. Good formula.

Bamco is making a IP mashup 3D fighting game called Jump Force that features characters from a couple of pretty popular manga properties, including Dragonball and Naruto. Gameplay looks pretty bland, but has beautiful graphics and could be fun if you watch cartoons in the morning before going to work.

Devolver Digital is just the best publisher, and their E3 'conferences' have been great to watch.

They announced three games this year, but you might as well watch the whole thing. It's worth it.

Also Halo Infinite and Tunic... how cute is that?

The one we (I mean, I) have been waiting for: Nintendo.

They launched right out of the gate with game announcement after game announcement, with a new Mario Party, a new Fire Emblem, DLC for Xenoblade 2, Fortnite, which is available for free right now, and a bunch more. There’s a lengthy portion detailing Smash as well.

Spiderman looks surprisingly good for what it is. I'm impressed, but not interested.

Nintendo, big meh. When people said the Smash segment was huge, I hadn't realized it was THAT huge. I do appreciate the detail, but christ. And nothing about the new Metroid. That's disappointing.

Rare White Ape
June 13th, 2018, 05:46 AM
Yeah I’m thinking that Cyberpunk may be something worth sinking lots of time into. They’re building something special there.

I read a report that it’s heavy on the nudity, violence, sexual violence and drug use, and the latter two are things which usually earn games a refused classification stamp in Australia, so there are already fears that it might not be allowed to be sold here, in its fully fruity guise anyway.

Eh. I’ll just import it.
