Going for the young guns with a splash of Kimi experience in there for good measure.

I wanted Vettel but I couldn't find any combos I liked after 23pts were gone. Seems like at the very least LEC should be at least one point less in line with BOT.

I really think Vettel will crack under pressure from a young challenger again.

balki
March 4th, 2019, 09:54 AM
I made Leclerc 3 more than I had originally guessed a few months ago: lot's of folks are saying he's way better than Kimi (who would have finished close to Vettel last year if he didn't have an extra 3 DNFs).
HAM and BOT got lowered by 2 because Ferrari looked so strong in testing and Kubica -2 because Williams looks so bad. Kimi also got lowered as the midfield teams all look much stronger this year.

It's certainly tempting to wait for FP1 and FP2, but the first two teams already look like top picks (dodint with Mercedes and FaF with two top cars + two solid midfielders)

FaultyMario
March 4th, 2019, 10:08 AM
I really think Vettel will crack under pressure from a young challenger again.

Binotto is a more revered figured inside Ferrari than Maurizio ever was, and I think Ferrari is throwing the whole team effort behind Vettel's attempt; pretty sure this is his last chance. So no, I don't think Charles has been given a long leash yet, not in his first year. Both Binotto and him would want to create a lasting relationship within the team, they are the newcomers.

Did we always do the 'have to spend the 40' thing? If someone wants a team that adds up to 38 or 39, why not?

I guess by doing that they could duplicate a team minus a 1 or 2 point driver that may not score points, thus creating a tie situation, but I'm okay with that. Completely different teams could still tie, and if anything they're putting them self at a disadvantage, so why stop them?

I'm thinking everyone's picks should be for the seat not the driver.
Rumors of Kvyat replacing Gasly already starting. No one picked Kvyat and I guess G'day, Alan and FaF would prefer the second Red Bull seat as opposed to Gasly back in a Toro Rosso.

Yobbo NZ
March 25th, 2019, 06:21 PM
My personal thoughts, promoted Brendon to Redbull this year, on a one year, watertight development deal only, to give them a first hand understanding of the powertrain etc. Kyvayt and Gasley to fight for the Redbull seat for next year.
My thoughts would be that Kyvyat would have that seat easily .
Brendon was starting to find cracks in Pierre towards the end of the season.

You could really tell that with the shit strategies they put him on while, in a good position during the race.

Thought Bottas was gonna suck again and honestly expect Ferrari to start with a bunch of 1-2's.
Biggest problem with the pricing: didn't properly account for how reliable Ferrari and Mercedes were going to be (even with Leclerc's problem it wasn't a Renault-like total failure)

Crazed_Insanity
March 31st, 2019, 07:11 PM
Yeah, i think they’re all pushing near their limits and reliability is now the main issue. it does seem like the only slow cars this year are Williams cars...

I do wonder why latest gen of F1 cars are so finicky. None of them can be consistently fast on all tracks it seems. Perhaps Mercedes’ approach of having 2 different chassis make sense now...

The other odd thing was the Haas cars... if I don't have Kevin as driver, I probably wouldn't care why he fell from 6th to 13th... as it turned out Haas was baffled by this as well. How can they have a high downforce setup and yet still couldn't get their tire temp up and sliding everywhere? Their tires only worked well with low fuel load, that's why they were best of rest in qualifying, but once it gets heavier fuel load, it'd start sliding?

https://us.motorsport.com/f1/news/magnussen-haas-pace-bahrain-hopeless/4363110/

Maybe it's the weird tires. They should've reduced downforce and let the darn thing slide more in order to heat up the tires... :p

JoeW
April 14th, 2019, 03:04 PM
Yeah. Merc already has nearly double the points of Ferrari. When Max has more points than both Ferrari drivers then you need to be worried. Although that will probably not last past the next race. RBR still doesn't have the outright pace to beat Ferrari and Ferrari is still off of Mercs pace. So same shit as last year.

But the midfield battle is more fun to watch this year so there is that.

Crazed_Insanity
August 5th, 2019, 09:37 AM
Hmm, I must've remembered wrong then.

Balki did say no major rule changes... and last year's rule specifically said we're getting the drivers, not their seats. So if your driver's is promoted, you should get promoted along with him. Likewise if there's a demotion. However, if Gasley loses his seat completely, I guess that means you'll be missing a driver if you signed him? :D

dodint
August 5th, 2019, 09:55 AM
I really don't know; I thought maybe you had remembered something I hadn't.

I'm for whatever is easier on balki.

If all things are equal I think you should be stuck with the driver you chose and should suffer/gain from a demotion/promotion situation. I do think if a drive were injured like Schumacher was when Salo subbed in then the seat points should count.

JoeW
September 2nd, 2019, 12:41 PM
Yep so true...longest top 5 finishing streak of the field. Checkers or wreckers.

As FaF said...you can’t go from 3 car widths out and dive for the apex and not expect there to be a car or two there on the very first turn of the start of the race.

Blerpa
September 2nd, 2019, 02:00 PM
People, are you serious? F1 paramount rule: if you are a car lenght ahead you have ANY right of turning (aside from not doing more of one change of direction) and who is following you, behind, is 100% responsible of braking and not punting you. And that's it.

JoeW
September 2nd, 2019, 03:01 PM
Jesus I swear sometimes you people are ridiculous.

It’s not about the rule of the law. It’s about driving smart. Kimi should know damn well someone is always going to be there in turn one of the race. There is ALWAYS someone there. Just hold your line. Chopping down on the corner is a recipe for disaster. Do you have “rights” to it? Sure but wouldn’t it be smarter to drive wise instead of right? As it turns out...yes. Because it ruined both of their races. Max cleared Perez and occupied the space he vacated. The rule also states leave a car width right?

Being the veteran Kimi should have known better. And Max expected a car width.

So who is right? No one because neither finished.

Yobbo NZ
September 2nd, 2019, 03:16 PM
Ah but remember, car in front has right to corner.
I think even if Kimi did leave a bit of space, the speed Max was going, he would have still clipped him anyway.

JoeW
September 2nd, 2019, 03:20 PM
Max was practically stopped at that point.

Again with the "right" to the corner. Knowing you have the "right" to everything doesn't mean you should drive like it. When the crosswalk says walk...I have the right to walk across safely...but I still cautiously look both ways.

Crazed_Insanity

Ok, this crazy needs to get involved... ;)

I’d agree 100% with ‘everyone’ else if Max punted Kimi from behind.

Reality is that Kimi hopped over Max’s front wheel.

Most likely Kimi wasn’t paying attention or Max was in a blind spot and Kimi didn’t see Max.

Personally I’d consider it a racing incident. It’s really be crazy if Max were assessed a penalty for that.

Crazed_Insanity

Ok, just saw the onboard footage from Perez's point of view. He started right behind Max and Kimi was next to Max. Max had a poor start. Perez surged past him and got right next to Kimi but a bit behined. So I'm sure Kimi's mirror was only full of the racing point's pink car. Perez realized that he ain't passing Kimi so he backed off, Kimi probably thought he was safe to shut the door on him... but at this point, Max surged pass Perez and of course got into the same real estate Kimi committed himself to be in too...

So I think the incident probably occurred because Perez was in between Kimi and Max... that's why neither saw each other until Perez bailed out of there at the last minute. It's a racing incident. Considering JoeW owns both drivers, I'm sure he's lecturing his drivers to be careful and respectful of each other for the next race! ;)

That second hit up Raidillon is inexcusable.

JoeW
September 5th, 2019, 10:43 AM
Perez was screwed there because he had Max to his right...he couldn't get overlap on Kimi's rear wheel so he had to brake or rear end Kimi. So he bailed out left to the free area. Max inhabited the now clear area vacated by Perez....and did have quite a bit of overlap. But Kimi assumed incorrectly he was clear to chop down on the corner.

Meh...I will fine all parties involved ;)

Crazed_Insanity
September 5th, 2019, 11:06 AM
Although I'm also one of the fanboi, after careful post analysis, I have to conclude it's really mostly Max's fault.

If he didn't screw up his launch so badly, surely this incident could've been easily avoided. :p

Max would've easily been ahead of Kimi and there'd be no way for Kimi to shut the door on him.

Are you referring to incident on 7:17?

Yeah, normally hitting another car like that would be inexcusable, but if you just rewind 1 second earlier... you could see Max's front left wheel wobbling... failing... prior to his 2nd contact with Kimi. That 2nd contact resulted in total and complete steering failure which sent him into the wall.

It's an unfortunate racing incident. Surely Team principle JoeW would prefer his 2 teammates NOT touching like that too, but that's racing. Sometimes shit happens.

I should ban Nate three races for your audacity (more like latency; this league was over in May when Mercedes managed to score 217 points out of a possible 215)

Are the standings updated with Kyvat's penalty?
He has been given a 5 seconds penalty: 10th place lost to Perez (which gains 1 point) and final position 12th.

Thought Haas could perhaps shine this weekend... so I was aiming to overtake JoeW, but not only did Haas had a poor weekend, Kimi also performed exceptionally... so looks like I catching up to Joe won’t be possible and I probably will end the season being average again! :p

Still, it has been a fun season!

Congrats to dodint!

It’s been an average season for me, but an interesting season overall! Team suck must’ve gotten a huge bump from Mclaren? Something probably nobody expected? At least not me.

I particularly didn’t expect Leclerc beating Vettel in his 1st year... we all know he’s good, but this for sure won’t be good for Vettels career...

Anyway, thanks for another fun season balki!

Congrats to Nat!
I tried till the end, but, to me, it was all over after three quarters of the season were run.
Yet I managed to keep at bay a rising Yobbo there :D
Thanks people and thanks a lot to Balki to have taken the time to organize and run this!

See you next season, Blerpa Motorsports will be there ;)

Thanks!

And thanks to balki for taking the time to do this. It makes watching the mid-field more interesting for sure.

Vettel really tanked Ashie's season.

Always fun, but finding it hard to remember who I'd picked after each week. Have to go back to the start and check. Thanks for this season.

Vettel really tanked Ashie's season.

Yeah, I initially thought that was a stroke of genius... and it’d be between you and ashie fighting for the championship, but I think both Vettel and Bottas failed to live up to their true potential...

JoeW
December 2nd, 2019, 06:13 PM
Well Bottas did get a comfortable 2nd place in the championship. I’d hate to be your kid if you think that’s not good enough :)

I’d say he did pretty damn good considering who his teammate was.

Crazed_Insanity
December 2nd, 2019, 06:21 PM
Yes, but in the beginning of the season, I thought we might see Bottas standing closer to Hamilton rather than Max the 3rd place finisher. Bottas 2.0 really looked quite strong right? But I think that momentum somehow vaporized.

If he could continue that momentum and had Vettel lives up to expectations, there’s no way you could finish ahead of ashie! :p

Ashie

I'll take fifth for my first year and damn that Vettel for a sucko year. Thanks again Balki for doing all the stats/counting etc. Until next season.....

Thanks guys.
Congrats Nate!
Oddly enough Mercedes was not the ideal team. Albon, Sainz, Bottas and Leclerc would have scored 40 points more (Bottas and seven mid-field drivers could have also beat dodnit)
