It's been announced for PlayStation 5. No release date as of yet, but two videos have been put out, a trailer and a brief gameplay video. Lots of new Porsches, Trial Mountain and Daytona make a return, and there appears to be some day/night cycle of some sort.

This game is clearly a return to the Gran Turismo formula of old with a heavy campaign mode, including the return of GT Auto, Used Car Lots, and Tuning.

So that Australian sim-seat manufacturer did indeed spill the beans (http://gtxforums.net/showthread.php?1930-PlayStation-5&p=150339&viewfull=1#post150339). In regards to the logo, at least.

Does that marker near the Arizona-New Mexico border mean that RRV is back?

There seems to be a lot of speculation about the dots on the map, including the one in Texas and the one near Utah. One may be the Northern Isle Speedway, and another may be Special Stage Route X, both of which are confirmed as being "American".

Blue Moon Bay was shown to be one of the dots in California.

Having unaffordable cars that you can instead buy with real dollars is a bit annoying.
I dont mind a bit of a grind to earn cars, but if you want more than a few of the eleventy billion dollar cars its just a ridiculous amount of game time to earn them.

Rare White Ape
June 21st, 2020, 10:21 PM
Yeah the 20mil cars are stupid. I grinded for weeks to earn enough to buy the 250 GTO in GTS and found it underwhelming to drive compared to the same car in Assetto.

Having multiple cars at that high cost is not real fun. Plus you can’t even buy them via MTX. It’s a pure gameplay earn only!

Unless you’re good enough to beat Lewis Hamilton’s laptimes!

What are the chances of this being out with a year?
Wasn't GT6 released without much fanfare/hype/public announcement?

If it's going to be a glorified GT:S with a proper offline mode (would totally buy) it seems plausible. Also plausible; we get a prologue and the full GT7 releases on the PS6.

Rare White Ape
September 24th, 2020, 01:48 PM
GT6 marked the 15th anniversary of the series. It had a ton of improvements, but it felt more like a continuation of GT5. However it’s online mode was much more robust and it was the first game to feel like it had a lot of online connectivity with its timed events and whatnot, plus a good amount of free DLC to compliment the paid stuff.

I think people had definitely begun experiencing GT delay fatigue by then, and it was very late in the PS3 lifespan, so it’s no surprise that it may have flown under the radar a bit.

The chances of GT7 being out before Christmas next year?

Very slim.

I'm sure that if you did it would be in your garage for free. Others would have to earn the credits. That's how it went with GT Sport: the various retailer exclusive cars were just region-specific car packs that anyone could buy in-game and you just got a scratch card with a bunch of them for free.

Watching the first few mins of the State of Play (will watch the rest later) and just the menus and overall vibe of the game are a breath of fresh air. Also I very very much like that they are implementing ‘history of’ various cars, manufacturers, etc so it’s kind of like a car museum within the game. Helps influence me to actually care about the ‘collection’ aspect of a game like this. FM tried this with all the tiers and stuff, but I just did not care about 90% of the cars because they were just cars, with no interesting facts or anything behind them.

Digital Foundry on YouTube has an overview video out with some small comparisons, but they will have a more in-depth comparison video in the coming days.

The main differences will be screen resolution and frame rate for different sections of the game. I’ve seen a few shots where grass on the infield is more detailed but that’s about all I’ve seen so far. I think you wouldn’t know the difference unless you were having a really close look.

XHawkeye
March 2nd, 2022, 02:41 PM
Longer load times is the main difference.

The PS5 version runs at 60 fps at 4K resolution, with some fancy ray-tracing effects added in for replays and demo scenes. By contrast, GT7 on the PS4 runs at 2K resolution, and load times are significantly longer between screens—expect to wait about 30 seconds to load a new race, compared to less than 10 seconds on a PS5. For context, that's about as long as, or slightly longer than, it takes to load a race in GT: Sport (which is only available for the PS4). Graphics are comparable between GT: Sport and the PS4 version of GT7 as well.

Super GT has a video review out. I've watched part of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_mB2kbAWOA&ab_channel=SuperGT

He says the physics are more detailed than GTS. Things like kerbs, bumps, and puddles have more of a consequence to careless driving, plus you can't turn the steering hard and expect to make a corner like you could with GTS.

Wet weather is not available at all tracks; just Spa, Nurburgring, Red Bull Ring, Le Mans, Autopolis, Suzuka, Fuji, Tokyo Expressway, Tsukuba and High Speed Ring. 24 hr time of day is available everywhere though.

Online the tuning meta is currently unknown but I would not be surprised if the FIA Manufacturers/Nations Cup modes from GTS are under very strict conditions with fixed setups, and then open tuning races with some level of curated freedom (i.e. weekly challenges) are also provided, with full custom lobbies made available on the side. Penalties for passing under yellow or crossing the pit exit line are present, but no info on collision penalties yet.

Racing against AI is OK if you bring a feather to a pillow fight. Reading between the lines, the AI is still fucking shit.

Driving camera can be adjusted a little bit. But sorry sim nerds or FOV police, the FOV cannot be adjusted. Your best FOV slider is the TV size filter when buying a bigger TV on the Best Buy website. Rear view mirror only available on the bumper cam.

Rolling start distances can be adjusted now, but the minimum length is 50 ft. If real-life racing is anything to go by, then need to make a 5 ft distance the minimum.

All that said, after 25 years, don't come in here with mouth agape expecting a Gran Turismo title to fix all the things everyone has complained about since 1997.

I’ve very briefly played a small section of the game that it gives you while waiting for the main parts of it to download. You’ve probably seen the Music Rally clips and laughed about them. Yeah, that!

And straight away I can tell that the physics are really good for the little old cars they let you drive. Heaps better than GTS. The FFB running through my Fanatec wheel is very communicative. I’ve turned off all the assists, and if you’re too late catching a slide then it’s wall time for you. Only trouble is the music for this game mode drowns out the engine and tyre sounds so that makes it a bit trickier.

I’m really looking forward to playing the rest of this, but I have to wait about 12 hours for the other 85 GB of the game proper to dribble its way through my internet connection.

I don't a wheel set up for console gaming, so can't help much there. I can say that for controller racing, the adaptive triggers are a really nice addition on the PS5.

Howdy again folks. After 6-8 hours in im enjoying it. Playing with ps5 controller and using motion steering. RWD cars feel almost undriveable though. If my shelby acted like the 350 in the game it would have killed me day 1 just trying to merge onto a highway at quarter throttle. Hell my BRZ would have killed me. There is some wonkyness going on with RWD handling, but its not every RWD car. Its very odd. The triggers im still getting used to, and hell just GT in general again. Didnt have a ps4 and got lucky and got a 5 a couple months ago so got up to speed on sport somewhat. Hope everyone is enjoying a numbered GT again. Only took a decade lol.

The tire squeal noise always bothered me with GT games, the ability to adjust it is awesome.

I'm not keen on paying USD800-900 for a PS5, or on waiting 30 seconds to load a race on the PS4. I think I may have to pass for a year or two, especially as I don't have time to play it (and only have a 14 year old 1080p plasma) anyway!

I'm chipping away at various races and stuff. I have a pre-order bonus of 1.5 mil Cr so lashed out and bought a GT3 racer, the NSX, to see how they feel.

I think I bought the wrong one because on stock settings it handles like a bag of shit. It's very prone to spooky mid-corner handling on fast turns and just lets the rear wheels do whatever they want. Suzuka's 130R is nigh-on impossible to navigate - zero rear grip.

Thankfully I could brute-force tune most of it out by setting front and rear sway bars to opposite extremes, but I'd be at a massive disadvantage in Sport Mode races if they use fixed setups. I hope the devs look into this before any FIA competitions begin this year.

So, a bit of a mini review.

Preface, I haven’t played Gran Turismo since GT4 on PS2… in 2004  I have been playing Forza Motorsport/Horizon since then though, so that’s my reference point hah. Also I’m a filthy casual compared to you all, I generally keep ABS on, TC to a low/mid level, and SC off. Sometimes using AT, sometimes using MT, depending on the car. Usually have braking icons on.

Pros:

Absolutely love the general vibe of the game compared to FM. It’s cleaner, it’s less ‘Mountain Dew extreme’. Things are clear and straight forward.
The feel of the PS5 controller is absolutely amazing. The haptic feedback in the triggers especially so. Every car has a different pedal feel, it’s kind of nuts. Also the vibration motors are so much better than Xbox controllers in subtlety and nuance. I can feel the difference between a bump on the road vs a transmission shift vs bumping someone.
Something about the color/lighting in this game feels a bit more accurate, especially in primary colors. This could be me, or it could be GT’s color science, I have no clue. There just seems to be a bit more nuance in tone.
It’s nice seeing some slightly more obscure Japanese cars again, and it’s nice seeing some of the older tracks again.
I really appreciate that every car I’ve seen so far has basically a mini Wiki entry for it. It’s nice to see why I ‘need’ to collect a car, if I’m going to be forced into a collection progression system

Cons:

No damage model is something I didn’t realize I’d miss, was surprised to see that GT lacks visible damage when so many other games have it
I didn’t expect this, but I prefer Forza’s upgrade and tuning sections. You don’t really get to see much detail in terms of changes to your car when buying things. Might be something I need to get used to, but as of now it feels less transparent in GT7 vs FM7
No Fiesta ST is a crime against humanity, and semi related, it seems like a lot of newer cars are missing. Like they mostly stopped modeling cars in 2016 or something
Surprisingly, I think FM7 has more detailed interiors than GT7

I’m sure I’ll think of more stuff, but so far I am very much enjoying the game overall. I do wish I could take the good bits of both series and mash them together though.

Agree.

The effect of applying power to the rear wheels is very marked in this game. If it was perhaps too easy to drive RWD cars in prior games, I feel they've gone too far the other way this time; as you say especially with the cars sliding on light throttle. Very easy also to over-correct and snap into the barrier.

However, I have found that fitting better tyres makes things a lot more manageable.

I was running the 550PP race at High Speed Ring in a stock FD on stock Sports Hard tyres, and was all over the place, going sideways at speed in 5th on the banking. Well outside its real life behaviour. Upgraded to Sports Medium and it was better, upgraded again to Sports Soft tyres and it's a lot more reasonable. It still goes sideways, but nothing like as fast and as far; with a bit of practice I was able to take the win and start to feel like I'm mostly in control of the car, rather than the other way around. So yeah, if you're running into this with RWD cars then do upgrade the tyres and see how much better it gets.

The difficulty level is harder, much more to my liking. I'm actually having to make a repeated effort to get some of the Gold licences, which means I'm thinking about what I'm doing and learning something. Which is totally how it used to be in the first couple of games, and not how it's been more recently. Similarly, having opted for Hard difficulty level the races are appropriately challenging.

Overall really enjoying it, yes in some ways it's a lot like GT Sport, but the return of old tracks and having specific challenges to undertake, with a stiffer difficulty challenge, is making it really fun.

Not a fan of the "training wheels" aspect through most of the opener. This is the 8th main title in the GT Series if you count GT Sport....YES we know how this all works....so when the first lady asks if you've played a GT game before and you say "YES" it should let you skip a lot of the tutorials for n00bz. The same in the Scapes mode. The guy asks if you know how to use a camera, but apparently it doesn't mean crap if you say "yes" because he'll tutorialize it anyway.

Used Car lot is very sparse which I guess is like previous titles, but annoying that a lot of cars aren't available in the Brand Central area...so you either have to get really lucky/patient or find how to obtain the cars in other races if available.

I heard they didn't have some of the newest vehicles, but surprised there isn't even a C8 Corvette yet.

Apparently you can't sell or get rid of cars at all, unless you have a duplicate, you can "discard" one.

Something has been bothering me about the single player progression. Having the cafe with menus is good and all - those little goals to achieve are nice. But I think they should have been optional.

What I’m missing is seeing all of the races laid out before you all at once and being spoilt for choice. One thing I used to do in GT was pick a car to start with and then see how far I could get into the game and still win races without having to buy upgrades or a whole other car.

In the past it made the initial car choice much more consequential. Now in GT7 you’re given cars as prizes for little effort and these cars are ideal for the next part of the incredibly linear GT Mode. I’m no longer becoming attached to any particular car because you’re quickly asked to forget it and move to the next thing.

I’m only up to menu 11 or 12 (starting to do some North American stuff) so I don’t know what the late-game looks like, but I do want to see an array of choices again. Where’s my Boxer Cup? The FR Challenge? Grand Valley 300? Italian themed races? Manufacturer stuff or or one-make races? I want to be tasked with having to source my own car for an event and deciding which upgrades would be appropriate, rather than bring handed three cars that will allow you to win and don’t need modification.

I agree. I also prefer to pick cars myself for races, so that's what I do, leaving the prizes mostly in the garage.

EG I bought a Viper (Mk1) for the American races, painted it blue and stickered it up with the white stripes in the livery editor, fitted SS tyres, and am enjoying the nostalgia of sliding it around Deep Forest and Trial Mountain.

Generally so far I've been able to build up a stable of a few of my favourite cars which cover most of the requirements - A110, DC2, BRZ, FD, Viper - and drive these most of the time.

I agree that it's more effort to opt out of the default prize cars, but it is an available option.

Agreed, it's more frustrating the farther along in the "cafe" mode I get also....I still haven't unlocked all of the possible tracks. Also, it makes it feel like you have to do cafe stuff in order to make any progression. It would have been fine for like 3-4 activities total, but so much of this game is tied into that right now. Also, there's silly things like "Go put a spoiler on your car and come back"...really?

I hope they get feedback and make some structure changes, it wouldn't be difficult to do.

Continuing to want to merge GT7 and FM7, both games get some things right much more than others.

For example, I wanted to run some races last night with an Integra Type R I spent way too much time and money modifying, so I went into the ‘custom race’ mode, and found I couldn’t do anything to set my opponents to be realistic/appropriate in terms of vehicle selection makeup. Really frustrating. FM7 for example lets you set things like “Japanese Compact” or PI limits, etc

And on the modifying part, it’s frustrating how little info is given on some of the parts, so I end up ‘wasting’ money trying to figure out details.

I love the way the game feels, I love the presentation, and I really enjoy all the historical info the game gives about cars/manufacturers. But god damn do they need someone to shake the devs, so many little things can be done to improve the game greatly.

I have to say that this is feeling far less like a slog than FM7 for me. I'm also really vastly preferring how the cars feel. I just did the "collect 3 Alfas" menu item in an E46 M3. That was really fun, the car had just enough power to get twitchy going over crests, and the feeling of the rain getting worse and worse at the Red Bull Ring was pretty impressive. A little slippery to start, then just a horrible deluge by the end where you're just struggling to keep the tires underneath the car.

I've missed this GT more than I realized.

On rear wheel drive cars… I, like everyone else, have been struggling with some of them simply rotating too much in corners. Tires helps a lot, but not completely, they still do wonky things it feels like. So I started messing more with the LSD since I don’t think it’s a traction issue (could be very wrong, I’m dumb), and that seems to be helping more. But things still feel off?

Next complaint… why the fuck isn’t there a weather forecast before races start? I’ve now run into multiple races where I had slicks and suddenly mid race it starts raining. Christ.

Oh, and you can’t just paint the hood/wing carbon fiber. You have to paint the entire car carbon fiber, then fill in the non carbon fiber bits with decals. Meaning no manufacturer/special colors in combination with a carbon fiber hood/wing.

Tom Servo
March 8th, 2022, 07:15 AM
I've been finding being really gentle about leaning into high speed corners helps a lot with that over-rotation, but it still feels exaggerated. The ~600 M3 I've been using was rotating on Curva Grande in 4th until I tried to ease it into the corner to try to avoid unsettling the car too much and it held traction every time I did that.

Definitely a band-aid on a real issue, but in the meantime I've found that helpful.

Try painting your car in the livery editor’s paint menu (not the decal menu). Once you apply a paint it then splits the car into different sections and I’m pretty sure that will allow you to do what you are wanting.

Edit: never mind, I just checked and you can’t combine carbon with other colours, just as you were describing. That sucks.

I've been anticipating and quite hyped up for this game for quite a while, but after a couple days of playing it the hype/anticipation level is now below that of other games i own but haven't played yet. :( Because of the negative reasons below, one of which is so bad i created a petition (see standalone topic), i just don't have much of a desire to play it at the moment. Maybe it's just the excitement wearing off too quick, but part of me is also hoping some things get fixed in future updates. Which i also somewhat doubt too.

My plus and minus list so far (that i can remember).

The positives
+ Graphics have somehow got even better than GT Sport, in every way. Lighting is incredible, sun reflections, headlights, wet weather effects (like not being able to see anything of other cars than their headlights sometimes) and so on. By far the best looking car game i've ever played.

+ Pleasantly surprised to see the Testarossa in the game. It's a car i was wanting, but never expected to get (mind you, i thought i'd never see the F50 in a GT game either).
+ Loving the huge amount of customisation available for a number of cars: bodykits, licence plate deletes (wasn't expecting - i take the front plates off of almost every car i modify), all rims/paints available straight away (if you have money), roll cages (wasn't expecting), widebody kits, spoilers, front grill customisation (wasn't expecting), bonnet latches (wasn't expecting) etc etc. Also love how liveries can cover chrome body parts (like on the old Mini Cooper) and some windows.

+ Car sounds have gotten better still, i think. Mitsi GTO fully upgraded sounds epic. Getting sick of the kids at GTPlanet saying cars still sound like vacuum cleaners. They must have fvcking nice sounding vaccums then! GT has never had so much transmission whine, pops, crackles and so on.

+ I like how some tracks from GT Sport have had visual changes/upgrades, and in some cases new sections of track added.
+ I like the cafe system, for now. Do kinda miss the old layout of GT games, but i'm giving this idea a fair chance in GT7, so not trying to think negatively of it at the mo. It's making me drive and experience vehicles i may not have tried otherwise. Which could be the point.

+ Glad the used car dealership is back, but it doesn't seem to change much, very often?
+ In a way i'm glad that the prices of cars have gotten as expensive as they can get in real life, i.e. with R34's over $400k now i think. In another way i'm not glad, as i need more money!
+ Dynamic weather is awesome. Love being able to turn wipers on and off if i please too. If i don't, it's fun watching the droplets on the windscreen tear off at speed, jitter around over bumps and stay clustered together sometimes as they do in real life when wipers get turned off.

+ Time of day progression is also awesome, and i forgot how much i missed it from GT6. Headlight projection onto objects is cool (road signs get quite glare-y for example) and happy to see ai cars headlights work properly too.
+ Don't mind the music so far. It's about what i expect in a GT game.
+ Music Rally is ... different. I like it so far.

And the negatives, some of which are actually ruining the game for me (in caps).
- ROLLING START RACES. I'm so freaking over this crappy way of starting races. I wouldn't mind as much if they did rolling starts like they do in real races - double file, packed together - but not separated in a single line, with the race only starting as you in last place cross the finish line, with the guy in 1st already at the second or third corner. FFS Polyphony, STOP THIS SH1T!

- HORSEPOWER MAX. I've only fully modded a couple of cars so far, but am already annoyed that some vehicles are down 4-500hp from what they were able to get in GT1. Whereas in real life most cars in videogames can easily and somewhat reliably get more than 1,000hp. Skylines, Supras, Mustangs, Porsches, Lamborghinis, anything with a V8 and so on. But for some stupid reason, Polyphony have been steadily been decreasing the max HP since GT1 - i know because every successive game i always mod the 'usual suspects' and quickly discover they are not as powerful as they once were.

- LOW TRACTION LIMITS. Wet races i'm okay with, i know that everything gets slippery - i've oversteered and understeered enough in my real cars to realise this. But the traction in the dry, as some of you have already mentioned, is worse than ever (i'm not going to sugar coat it with reasons why it could be more realistic like this or not - i'm not playing Project Cars or other such sim-ier games, i don't need to nor want to be nervous around every damn corner and while accelerating along every damn straight. That is NOT Gran Turismo. This is the first GT game ever where i've had to turn traction control on (and in some cases countersteer assist etc too) to drive normal road cars in such a way that i don't spin out.
It's honestly making me feel like i'm playing a more serious game like Project Cars (which i gave up on pretty quick after spinning too many times) and not a Gran Turismo game. It is not fun, even though i really was trying to come to grips with it (no pun intended) and thought i was getting the hang of it in some races. But then BOOM, around i go yet again. These three things are the main contributors that are giving me almost zero inclination to play the game at the moment instead of something else. Battlefield 1, Far Cry New Dawn, Minecraft, Forza Horizon 4, Ace Combat 7 and Farming Simulator 20 all give me slightly higher inclinations to play at the moment.

- Don't like how some cars don't have as much customisation as others, but that's just me being greedy. Same deal with cars that i think should have more than the lots they already do, greed.
- Still miss my car horns from GT6. :(
- Wee bit gutted there's no non GT-R Skylines in the game. But hopefully one day.
- Still waiting for the McLaren P1.
- I do NOT like the new Trial Mountain layout. The track environs itself have never looked better and we no longer have the boring repetitive texture 'walls' along the back straight etc. But i don't like how wide the track now is, how flat it now is, how the back and front straights are significantly longer/more drawn out, how the last corner is so slow now and yadda yadda. I know why they did it, to fit more cars in the pits in online modes, but i just don't like it's new layout. I'd feel a 110% better if they released an offline only 'original' layout Trial Mountain, with the same environmental look it has now.
- I'm also not too fond of the new Deep Forest either, for the same reasons as above. But environmentally it too looks better than ever, it's just the changing of the layout that irks me. Polyphony, when we say we want the original tracks back, we mean the original tracks. We don't mind if you alter the track environs, but not the layout! Again, i'd feel 110% better if an offline original layout version was added.
- Getting annoyed at not being able to enter races because i've got the wrong tyres on - give me the option to change them then and there so that i don't have to backtrack four or five pages to the tuning page to change them!
- Some missions/licence tests/races etc would be better if the menu had the option to go to the next event, instead of having to go back to the main menu area to go to the next event. I know the option is actually there for some events, but not all.
- Bring back qualifying.
- Bring back the ability to see the options people use in the leaderboards menu (you used to be able to see if they used TCS, ABS, steering wheel/controller (?), manual or auto and so on. I was going through the licence tests trying to beat as many people on my friends lists times as i could, but not knowing if the really fast times were done with or without aids is a bit annoying.
- Still no New Zealand tracks. I'd love to see Highlands Motorsport Park in the game, but would be happy with anything from NZ.
- Plus a number of things you guys have already mentioned.

So yeah. My excitement level is lower than i ever thought it would be barely a week in. :|

I wouldn’t mind feature unlocks still being linked to it. I just don’t like how linear it is.

Finding it weird that I have to do very linear ordered stuff to open areas.

I miss the "oh I can start with licenses or missions or race series".
Even now Im a couple of days in and it feels void and that I can only do what they want, to open just enough to do their next requirement.

I haven't played GT since .... um whatever I last played on the PS2!

To be honest, I mostly enjoyed having back then, a plethora of mid powered used Japanese performance but not supercars. The best races I had were in an N15 Pulsar or something like that, where I gradually detuned the car and repeatedly did one series until I could only just barely win the race if I did everything right, and drove like a complete savage. That I found far more memorable than the super duper race cars with all the downforce.

I watched the intro movie to this game on YouTube, and it looks like it has a bit of fun with stuff like the old Mini & Beetle. But I'm a little dubious if it's going to scratch my itch of having a vast range of 1990's Japanese cars. I always enjoyed getting one of each Evolution of the Lancer Evo RS in white, and putting steel wheels on them.

What SkylineObsession said, but also, you can only change to tyres you own. If you haven't bought wets yet then you either have to stick it out or go back four menus and into the tuning shop.

That said (and related to what Leon also said), sports soft tyres are perfectly cromulent tyres to use in wet conditions provided you are in a low-powered car. I entered my gently modded AE86 with those tyres into the Japanese Sports 550 race at Fuji in rainy weather and I had to drive like the absolutest savage of savages to get even up to 5th place.

It was a blast. The same car was good for a third place at Autopolis whilst passing cars with an inch of rubber still on the inside kerbs, it's a legal pass! "Excuse me Sir, I am passing you now, and I will be using that half a foot of tarmac you didn't use!"

I played at a friend's house last night with a cheap Thrustmaster force feedback wheel. The racing itself was entertaining, though I really struggled with the GT3 & GTLM cars. But the slog to unlock things, oh my god.

3 minutes to go through the Cafe selection stuff, 2-3 5 minute races, repeat ad nauseum. Randomly tracks will open up, and you can't race or drive at that track until it's unlocked. I'm guessing after maybe 10-20 hours of racing you'll have everything unlocked to do what you could want to do (other than having a massive car collection), but it's just not how I want to do games. I don't want to do a rolling start from a fixed position and then just navigate around a bunch of rolling chicanes that are purely there for me to be able to pass all of them in less than 5 minutes.

i think about the time i spent unlocking gt1/gt2 progress, and while i may have been able to get into those races quicker, i was nowhere near ready.

I am enjoying the overall physics in general. But I run in a few online series at GTPlanet. That being said I think racing in close quarters with certain cars will be more challenging. Especially with lower spec tires. It will be a learning curve to adapt from the old “pitch it in and hammer it” mentality of GTS to a more realistic model of GT7.

Some of the slides I’ve had in GT7 are harder to recover than iRacing’s infamous endless slides. I’ll catch it and begin to straighten the wheel ever so gently with a tiiiiiiiny amount of throttle, then the game goes “no, fuck you” and spins an extra 20° for no reason

I'm constantly being pitted.

I did have a lot of fun on a couple of ~700PP events with American cars, somewhere in the high 20s on the menus. I took a Ford GT and just gave it way more power than it should have but not good enough tires or brakes. It absolutely demolished everyone on straights but was nearly undrivable outside of that. It was surprisingly entertaining just desperately trying to keep the rear wheels planets around Interlagos. The feedback from the triggers was invaluable on that.

Even on that Special Stage X high speed oval, it was dancing all over the place like it had to pee or something.

How is the rubber-banding compared to GT:S? I distinctly remember in GT:S if you were running a 20 lap race you could hang back for the first 12 laps and then make a charge to the front, catching the AI napping. But if you pushed from the beginning you would be within 1 second of the finish, win or lose. It kind of ruined the offline racing for me.

MR2 Fan

There's a spec Mini race at Goodwood that some people were promoting to make quick money...5 laps...but this one dark red mini usually starts flying to the front by the 4th lap and often gets past me...doesn't make any sense for it to be that quick with the limit of PP in the race.

Jason
March 10th, 2022, 09:24 AM
I don't have any GTS experience, but I saw there's settings for rubber banding in the custom race section. I assume that means there's some level of it on by default in normal races

Rare White Ape
March 10th, 2022, 12:45 PM
GTS vs GT7 single player races seem quite similar to me. There’s a field of rolling chicanes that you have to pass, then one or two cars at the front which run away and require more effort to catch. The spaced out rolling start is what provides the challenge, because the AI is so slow; a staple of GT since the very first game. So, no real change between Sport and 7.

I’m not sure about rubber-banding. I’ve never experimented with the settings in a custom race. I haven’t noticed anything in my races that feels like it is on.

Oh, speaking of AI, I’ve seen people online confused that the Sony experimental AI Sophy is not in GT7.

I think they’re confused about a marketing exercise that featured a pre-recorded ghost that was generated by Sophy when it was trained to drive on one track in GT Sport.

It’s meant to be a showcase for Sony’s new AI algorithm that is being marketed to industry partners, not gamers who want good offline races.

GT7 is very much a broken product right now if you do anything online. The leagues I run in are going back to GTS until GT7 is at least up to what GTS had. Argh, just spent a bunch of time trying to gold that mission where you're driving an FC RX-7 and have to hit 155.3mph (or 250km/h) by the end of the run. Turns out after 1.06, there's wind at the track and if you have a headwind, you've got no chance at it.

Yep, I think that was confirmation enough for me. I finally got one where I had a tailwind instead of a head or crosswind and got gold easily. Retrying will not change the wind direction, you have to exit back out to the screen with Start, Replay, Ranking Board, etc at the bottom, and the wind direction shown is relative to the track map in the upper right. If the arrow is pointing mostly to the right, you'll have a tailwind - I finally got a favorable wind and easily hit the target.

Tom Servo
March 13th, 2022, 05:44 PM
Lol, I thought I'd completely forgotten how to drive. Later in that set of missions, there's one where you're racing an Audi Quattro Pikes Peak against some other cars on dirt. The thing felt like it was on ice, I just couldn't get it to brake, turn, do much of anything other than plow into a wall and fail the mission.

Apparently the latest patch broke basically every rally mission and license test by forcing comfort softs on the cars instead of dirt tires.

Guess I'll leave that for another time, then.

fwiw i pushed the extreme upper bound of that pp limit, and my loss was on hard tires... quickest lap was 1:04:2 or so.

you can do it!

My times have been around 1:05 or so, with the first place car or two extending their lead by 1-2 seconds a lap, a complete outlier from the rest of the pack

the quickest oppo i saw was still in the low 1:04 range, but they never completely got away from me, and i usually caught up late in the 4th (last hairpin) or early 5th. easiest was an r33, hardest was a ford focus

oh started to have a few rain races while trying to earn Porsches. I like that the rain can vary in intensity, yeah that should be a given, but its more than just the older GT binary rain. Heck I think it was back with TOCA2 that decent weather was done well.

Apparently there's a good easter egg at Bathurst.

Word on the street ("street" = "Reddit") is that the new update severely nerfs the Fisherman's 1-lap rally race payout. So goodbye to the only decent grind in the game, but let me officially welcome all of you to Microtransaction Hell, brought to you by Polyphony Digital. This is the state of videogames now. I mean, it's been trending that way for a while - and the writing was on the wall for the GT franchise from the GT7 release - it's just disappointing that there's absolutely no pretense anymore. I don't have time to grind a 3+ minute drone around SSRX for enough $45k payouts to buy a multi-million Legends car.

There are absolutely worse things going on in the world, but like most of you, I've been enjoying this franchise for 25 years so in the context of "videogames I enjoy playing," I feel a little Kerrigan'ed.

Played it for the first time last night after work - got a PS5 finally. Cashed my vouchers from the anniversary edition, did the music rallies, let the download finish....and THEEEENNNN the servers went down. I love modern gaming.

Haven't played a GT game since 4 - progress in this game is going to be a mess for me

Looks like I am still smart for not buying it just yet. I'll let them iron out the bugs a touch more

I’ve just been reading that the new update brought nerfs to all of the best money making races. So they’ve slowed the credit earning potential of players.

Combine this with more expensive upgrades than previous games and a whole roster of ridiculously expensive classic cars.

So if the servers ever come back up, here are the revised race payouts.

I think we're going on 12 hours of the servers being down. How big must the bug in the update have been? No doubt some kind of exploit that allowed us mouthbreathers to get far more credits than we deserved

I really don’t mind grinding to earn money, but they have definitely gone a bit too far, specifically with not being able to sell cars. Most of the cars in my garage I have zero interest in, it’d be great to sell them for cars I actually want to drive.

“Thankfully” I’m busy with work and moving, so I have no problem putting the game down for a while and coming back to it, after some balance updates (hopefully)

Also, I get the impression that the intent of this game is to be multi year with some soft live service type of support, but they haven’t really been clear about the intention, so the whole thing comes off a little shady with the MTX push.

Typical tactic: send out review code and harvest high scoring reviews, then change a few key parameters post-launch.

Some games do it immediately. Seems like GT7 is taking longer. Plus the Hagerty dealership is yet to show all of its wares so we still don’t know what we are in for.

I'm mostly in the same boat as Jason, but I think that might be because I still haven't finished the menu bits yet and so I'm still getting prize cars. I have a feeling that'll change when that stops.

However, I'm also pretty disgusted by it. GT:S let you buy cars with real money, and I think they went as high as $5. Assuming they'll have some 20m credits cars in the game, that'd cost $200 to buy enough credits for that. I know inflation's up and all, but that's insane.

The worst I'd heard up to this point was one of the mobile NFS games, it would cost about $80 to get the most expensive car via microtransactions. This is more than double a free-to-play mobile game from fucking EA.

Having been on a "sub" service for a game, Destiny 2, I know how frustrating a game can be when the tweaks aren't for the better.

However, the game always gets better.

This is apparently the official statement from Kazunori Yamauchi on the state of the game. I only have a screengrab of it off Reddit, so I can't cut and paste, so please forgive any typos.

I wanted to explain what happened in this update.

Immediately before the release of the 1.07 update, we discovered an issue where the game would not start properly in some cases on product versions for the PS4 and PS5.

This was a rare issue that was not seen during tests on the development hardware or the QA sessions prior to the release, but in order to prioritize the safety of the save data of the users, we decided to interrupt the release of the 1.07 update, and to make a 1.08 correctional update.

This is the reason for the delay.

My sincere apologies for the late report to everyone.

Also in this update, some event rewards have been adjusted. I wanted to also explain the reasons for it and our plans going forward.

In GT7 I would like to have users enjoy lots of cars and races even without microtransactions.

At the same time the pricing of the cars is an important element that conveys their value and rarity, so I do think it's important for it to be linked with the rear world prices.

I want to make GT7 a game in which you can enjoy a variety of cars lots of different ways, and if possible would like to avoid a situation where a player must mechanically keep replaying certain events over and over again.

We will in time let you know the update plans for additional content, additional race events and additional features that will constructively resolve this.

It pains me that I can't explain the details regarding this at this moment, but we plan on continuing to revise GT7 so that as many players as possible can enjoy the game.

We would really appreciate it if everyone could watch over the growth of Gran Turismo 7 from a somewhat longer term point of view.

Kanunori Yamauchi

I don't know that I'm buying that. Everything they've done so far has made it so you have to do more of the "mechanically keep replaying" thing. And part of the reason people buy videogames is so they don't have the same limitations as real life. I can barely afford one car, I don't want a game where I have to finance my in game crossover SUV for five years.

As for the delay, it seems reasonable but also seems like they could have been transparent about it as soon as they knew there was a problem with 1.07. Also, why the hell can't these game companies, that save games in the cloud anyway, just keep a few backups on their servers too? Disk space is cheap.

…or just revert to single player being available to play without an internet connection.

And this thing about additional features being promised to nullify the apparent need for microtransactions is poo. The game has a grindy economy right now. The game has obscenely expensive cars right now.

Give us better custom race options + custom series, with a decent payout formula and I’ll basically never stop playing. But as it is right now, my choices after the cafe menu are to replay a couple preset races, largely with cars I don’t care about. Forza does this part so much better imo
