Please report strange board behavior (that's behavior of the software, not the users) here so that I can follow up on it. There are a lot of buttons and knobs on the admin cp. :)

Freude am Fahren

Not necessarily a bug, but at the bottom of a topic, there's the quick nav drop down, and top, but not single click way to get back out to the forum you're in. (Equivalent of the "Go" button on the old boards). With quick nav, you actually have to scroll down to get to most topics

Another way of doing it would be to have the topic 'tree' at the bottom of the list of posts as well as the top. Minor stuff really, but I do find it quite useful, if there's an option for that.

Look at me just got here and already complaining :)

When I edited my post in the pit stop, I got some sort of error when it took me to the "Your edit is now being posted, you will be forwarded." Unfortunately I did not get a chance to copy it before it forwarded me.

EDIT: Let me test it again here.

I was just about to request the lack of nav drop down at the bottom of a page, but I see it just looks like a button now instead.

Feature question/request: filtering out threads visible threads based on a tag? Basically an "at work" view that makes NSFW threads not show up. I may not even use it, but since we have tags it would be interesting how we could use them.

Freude am Fahren
January 6th, 2014, 12:53 PM
I'm getting inconsistent marking of threads as read.

It looks like the forum icons wont turn gray until I go back into the forum to see all the threads are gray then go back to the main page...

After some testing it does appear the main page icon for a forum wont turn gray until I am on that forums list of threads having views all threads.

So if I go straight from what was my only unread thread to the main page, that forum (ie the pitstop) stays blue even though all threads have been read.

Random

There are some settings regarding how quickly and dynamically read threads update--I'll take a look this evening.

January 7th, 2014, 05:03 AM
Hmm, oddly everything got marked as 'read' on it's own this morning after I took a detour to another site for 10-15 minutes while also starting a new thread. Is there now a time-out that automatically marks things as read (like the FT-86 forums for anyone over there) if they haven't been posted in since your last visit/activity?

Random
January 7th, 2014, 08:37 AM
There are a few knobs to turn regarding activity monitoring and how/when things get marked read--I didn't get to it last night. The double-click feature is a nice one, though. :)

When typing out the title to a thread, it automatically CamelCases everything. While I can understand that this is to prevent all-caps thread titles... is it really necessary? "GTA V" becomes "Gta v" in this case and it gives me a sad.

If your server is running Windows, I don't know.

If it's Linux, then get a shell prompt as the root user and look for the email address in the maillog:

# grep someone@someplace.ca /var/log/maillog

That will give you something like this:

Jan 9 11:43:15 myhost postfix/pickup[18170]: 6CDABDFB86: uid=530 from=<me2>
Jan 9 11:43:15 myhost postfix/qmgr[2264]: 6CDABDFB86: from=<someone@someplace.ca>, size=461, nrcpt=1 (queue active)
Jan 9 11:43:17 myhost postfix/smtp[19632]: 6CDABDFB86: to=<someone@someplace.ca>, relay=ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.com[192.168.1.27]:25, delay=1.9, delays=0.05/0.15/0.86/0.83, dsn=2.0.0, status=sent (250 2.0.0 OK 1389296597 hj7si6834300qeb.2 - gsmtp)

That big hexadecimal number is a system id for the message being sent. Now look for that in the log to see all entries associated with sending that message:

# grep 6CDABDFB86 /var/log/maillog
Jan 9 11:43:15 myhost postfix/pickup[18170]: 6CDABDFB86: uid=530 from=<me2>
Jan 9 11:43:15 myhost postfix/cleanup[19630]: 6CDABDFB86: message-id=<20140109194315.6CDABDFB86@myhost.mydomain.net>
Jan 9 11:43:15 myhost postfix/qmgr[2264]: 6CDABDFB86: from=<me2@myhost.mydomain.net>, size=461, nrcpt=1 (queue active)
Jan 9 11:43:17 myhost postfix/smtp[19632]: 6CDABDFB86: to=<someone@someplace.ca>, relay=ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.com[192.168.1.27]:25, delay=1.9, delays=0.05/0.15/0.86/0.83, dsn=2.0.0, status=sent (250 2.0.0 OK 1389296597 hj7si6834300qeb.2 - gsmtp)
Jan 9 11:43:17 myhost postfix/bounce[19633]: 6CDABDFB86: sender delivery status notification: 7553DDFB8F
Jan 9 11:43:17 myhost postfix/qmgr[2264]: 6CDABDFB86: removed

You can use sudo instead of being root if you want.

Of course, you can always test the email address by just sending email to the person with your regular mail client and see if they get it.

Uploading an attachment from my iPad... if the picture is a vertical photo on my iPad, it gets uploaded as a horizontal on GTXF. Horizontal images attach fine, though. So I assume some EXIF data/auto rotate image in PB data is lost somewhere when uploading.

If you enter s= followed by 32 or more mixed lowercase and digits, the s= and the first 32 of those characters will disappear.

http://gtxforums.net/showthread.php?111-Test-s-followed-by-numbers-deletion

I first noticed this in URLs for web.archive.org.

It makes sense that vB here might want to massage magic cookies out of links pasted into messages, but they appear to do it to all text, too. Which seems wrong.

For web.archive.org links in particular, you can work-around the problem by changing the lowercase s= to an uppercase S=.

True. Your hosting company might block the free https://letsencrypt.org/ (or at least its automatic updating protocols). You might need to go with what the hosting company chooses. And then, hopefully the price and time costs will be reasonable.
