Related to '15 years' thread - What exactly is the timeline for this place?
I remember a lot of specific major incidents but can't place them in time very well- For example, I remember being in the official rebellion IRC channel during the final exodus from Kenji-land very clearly, but my best guess for when it was is Fall '03, but it could have easily been summer or sometime in '04.

So, anybody want to contribute to this history thread with dates and events?

I almost feel like GreenTavern was a wrap around solution. I don't know.

There was an off-shoot board at one point where only approved people could join. The Box? The Cube? I wasn't approved so I don't know much about it.

Yeah, greentavern, like GTBN, was concurrent with the various gt.com boards, which made it convenient when things went sideways.

Heh, it's like looking at European or Asian history, where it's not a simple change of leadership/name, but a series of expanding and shrinking tribal lands that tend to overlap as well.

jzl had a kinder, gentler version of Gumball for a while. I think she shut it down when the Coolorado crowd took over.

If this place will now be relatively permanent, I think the end of GTBN is nigh.

I will send all 4 of the remaining actives over here. :|

I see JMII commenting over at The Truth About Cars.

I would not be surprised if the folks that run that site call their commentariat "The Best and Brightest" ironically, because they're a weird combination of extreme right wingers and people who think the Toyota Camry is -just great-!

But for serious, that thread could very well be my most favorite part of this community's history....I wish I had saved it.

If we're doing a truly complete, textbook quality history, it should be noted that I tried to usurp power at the end of Nigel's forum. I made an identical forum right alongside the GTX refuge, but nobody came to it. I wonder if it's still floating around out there somewhere. Do we still have the posts from the GTXF? There is probably a link to it I posted somewhere. It's like the lost forum of Atlantis. Completely abandoned and shrouded in the murky depths of the internet.

From the not-too-up-to-date... http://gt2toxs.webring.com/gt/ (oh webring is such fun; they move your pages from org to com, but don't keep both working!!!). I've updated the categories properly here now, I think...

Not all at all mainstream gtxf history, but a I'll stir a few memories, I'm sure. I especially remember hgt where Gasman hung out a lot, and easyed once very expertly moderated a non-dispute between Gasman and me which the too-many-moderators were trying to blow out of proportion.

You spoke with him?

Four days before 9/11 (Saturday, September 8, 2001), he bought my (non-running) MGB/GT. It remained outside his house for another couple of years, but after that it was gone (likely to scrap). Rather large events overshadowed that memory for a long time, and I don't think I saw Sean again for a year or two, and then never again after that. I gave him the car for a couple hundred bucks and help loading my new-to-me Fiat 128 (bought the same day) onto a U-haul.

Those were the days.

The release dates of all the games are definitely important. I think that my hex edit of the GT2 demo disc was also a watershed moment -- people poured into the GTF back then because the FAQ was an exclusive source of GT2 pre-release information. I remember getting an official credit in Germany's Official Playstation Magazine, and became friends with Jaz, an editor over at IGN. The US producer of GT thought I ran GT.com, and we stay in touch to this day - though we haven't had the pleasure of meeting in person yet.

Bryan's GT Academy win is worthy of being on the timeline, too. And don't forget the GT party dates. We had at least four HTX-GTPs in Houston. :)

Kaz documentary by Urban Outlaw filmmakers premieres on Hulu January 22nd

A documentary directed by Tamir Moscovici, the man behind the 30-minute documentary on outlaw Porsche builder Magnus Walker, will be airing on Hulu on Januarty 22. Called Kaz: Pushing the Virtual Divide, this could be, for now, the definitive video document surveying the past 22 years of GT in the words of the man who saw it through from idea to what he has in mind next for the world of GT.

The filmmakers and Kazunori will host a roundtable on Twitch.tv that accompanies the airing and offers the chance to win $1,000,000 in Gran Turismo 6 credits. You'll find the two-minute trailer below
