I can see how that may appear to be the case, but then again in all the years I kept the teams hidden until the beginning I hardly ever had to tell people to re-pick because their team wasn't unique and we used to have as many as 30 people in it.

Perhaps it's a quantum thing - the result (the team you want) is altered by measuring it (by looking at other teams).

Trends so far why not ...

- Most of us (9 of 13) have picked Kobayashi (because who else would you spend your last buck on?)
- Rosberg and Button are the next most popular with 6 picks each, followed by Raikkonen and Hulkenberg with 5
- Of the expensive drivers, Ricciardo or Alonso are only in one team each and nobody has fingered Vettel

I've also calculated a "sameness" number by adding up the popularity of everyone's drivers (excluding the penny-dreadfuls). So the "same-er" you are (bigger number) the more popular drivers you have ... or something. Here it is:

With such a drastic change in rules, I find it hard to believe that a RB can dominate again like before. There's not much Adrian Newey can do to increase engine performance/reliability! Plus, RB's just not doing that well during preseason. Best hope they have is that they sort out their issues later and take full advantage of the double points system later.

Anyway, besides the ungly noses and lousier engine sound, this season should be interesting to watch.

I agree mostly. They can only do so much to make up for a bad powerplant, though I do believe they had the weakest engine other than the Cossie during most of their run.

Well, I'm sure other than Cosworth, most of the engines are pretty much developed near the max and roughly the same as one another. Obviously in such circumstances, Newey's ability became super important..., of course Vettel's talent also helped too I'm sure.

However, considering their disastrous preseason tests, I'm counting RBs out this season. I'm sure they'll catch up later, but hopefully my mid-fielders will be able to collect more points in the mean time while the top drivers run into reliability issues! We'll see. ;) Vettel might just end up proving us wrong once again. If he wins the championship again, I'd finally elevate him above Senna as one of the all time greats!

Senna ALWAYS wowed me when he got in the car. Vettel is impressive, but I have not seen the same "how did he pull that off" performance Senna did on a regular basis.

Vettel definitely could dethrone Schuey in terms of stats. In terms of passion, Senna is definitely numero uno! I used to think Hamilton would fill the void left by Senna, but I think Hamilton has proven to lack sufficient self discipline. Currently I think the most passionate racer would be Alonso, the most capable of not cracking under pressure of a strong teammate or a lousy car.

If Vettle can continue to deliver this coming season, then he'd be effectively proving to the world that he doesn't need a dominating car to win championships! If only he could have a strong teammate..., I think that'll once and for all prove that he's THE all time great. For now, yeah, question remains...

Hi guys, back indahouse. Well, I have been for a few days I've just been lazy.

One of the other rules I used to impose on late joiners was that they'd have a reduced budget - the average equivalent of selling your entire team and starting again back when we used to have buy and sell values. It was usually only about 32-34 from memory and I don't remember any of these people doing poorly as a result.

I know it's close to the next GP already. Anyone got any thoughts or opinions?

The Engine design and layout is fixed at the start of the season. Only upgrades for Reliability or Safety may be introduced with permission from the FIA.

I really doubt the outcome will be that different anyway... Imagine if next round is final round with double points and both mercedes drivers DNFed and Daniel ended up winning 50 points..., that's still not enough to overhaul the mercedes duos.

This stupid point system can only cause major upsets if there's a tight championship fight I think. So for Lewis and Nico, yeah, neither will be able to clinch the championship until the very end probably...

Hey, don't know if it makes a difference, but how does Marussia's pulling out affect points here? I know that they don't give more points for the people that were behind him in Monaco, but do his points get vacated?

I think their 2 points are still in official results. It's not like they were penalized like McLaren was for doing something illegal. They just ran out of money in mid-season. Don't see why that must cause them to forfeit the 2 points they already scored. They'll probably forfeit the money they're entitled to if they don't return next year..., but I don't see why they should lose the points already earned.
