Just so we can finish this year off.

In the meantime I will try to internalize this.

http://www.cincyjungle.com/2014/1/7/5284374/the-shame-of-it-all

Next are Bengals fans. Not an attractive fan base, this gang will often get surly on the first negative play and take a while to shake it off. They are a scorned bunch who perpetually feel like asses for being fooled again. They live with daily self-doubt and think the rest of the league picks on them and their team. When they meet outside of Cincinnati, they are astonished to have found the other, and feel an immediate bond in their shame.

-----------

Which is crazy when you think about it. You and I have no effect on the games. We hope a certain group of humans performs better than another group at a very physical sport. We hope they are better because they represent the place we live, but in reality, their representation of us is only the name on their uniforms. With two or three exceptions, none of these players or coaches come from Cincinnati (and even two or three seems kind of high). Almost all of them are in the one-percentile in athletic capabilities, so they aren't representing us in that sense either, and the poorest of the bunch gets paid ten times more than your average Cincinnatian. But we hate it when we are mocked after our specific athletic group of rich outsiders comes up short against similar groups from similar far-away places.

-----------

Yes, shame is everywhere in this football town. It takes nine months to fully rev the engines again and allow the spring of hope to fill us once more and it will happen again, but one can't help but worry that the chances will dry up like it did in the wretched past. We don't trust that we will continue to enjoy year after year of divisional championships and playoff berths like some cities seem to do. Our desperation heightens with our limitation of days. Yet remember, dear desperate soul, that these men do not represent us; we represent ourselves. A great city, a great life, a great person is rarely defined through football, at least to the average joe. Root for them, yes, of course, but don't be ashamed when your hope is not satisfied. We are not losers because of the outcome of Wild-Card weekends.

-----------

We always hear that the same group of individuals is never completely replicated from one year to the next. There will certainly be changes in 2014, but we have yet to learn how dramatic they will be. Will all the same coaches come back next season? Will the new draft picks include a young quarterback? What free agents fit this team? Only time will tell. Until then, try not to stress about it. Enjoy the playoffs because you enjoy watching good football. Revel in the warmer weather sure to come in a few months. And when Bengals time rolls around again, remember who dictates your life and your shame. You do.

Bengals QB Dalton has just finished his 3rd year -- A-Rodg was still riding pine at this point in his career.

Dalton is just one of three quarterbacks in NFL history to have thrown for over 3000 yards in each of his first three seasons, joining Cam Newton and Peyton Manning, and just one of three to have passed for at least 20 touchdowns in each of his first three seasons, joining Manning and Dan Marino. Dalton is the only quarterback to lead the Cincinnati Bengals to three consecutive playoff berths, and just one of five quarterbacks to lead his team to the playoffs in each of his first three seasons. He is also the Bengals franchise record holder for passing yards and touchdowns in a season.
Bengals owner Mike Brown would be clinically insane to let this guy go.

::

Over the last decade, the Cincinnati Bengals have won the AFC North Division three times, with five winning seasons, three 8-8's and only two losing seasons in that time. Their Coach Marvin Lewis has won NFL Coach of the Year once. They've been to the playoffs five times overall.

Over the last decade, the Pittsburgh Steelers have won the AFC North Division four times, with seven winning seasons and three 8-8's in that time. Their Coach Mike Tomlin has won NFL Coach of the Year once. They've been to the playoffs six times overall. They've also won two Super Bowls and lost a third one in that span.

Over the last decade, the Baltimore Ravens have won the AFC North Division three times, with seven winning seasons, one 8-8 and only two losing seasons in that time. They've been to the playoffs six times overall. They've also won one Super Bowl in that span.

Over the last decade, the Cleveland Browns have been dogshit. Much like the Buffalo Bills, Cleveland has won absolutely nothing in the last decade and have had only one winning season in all that time (neither team made it to the playoffs). Jason would make lampshades out of the fine dewy skin of his photography models to have records like the Bengals.

Do the math. Be objective. The Bengals have been contenders for the past ten years, fighting in a very tough division (four of the last ten Super Bowls have featured an AFC North team) and are above average in a league designed for parity. People who poke the tiger are simply talking shit to get a rise out of you. The Bengals records speak for themselves as-is, IMO. HTH. :)

Are the Charger going to win the Super Bowl... because of who they played in their regular season schedule?

Odd coincidence that has predicted the previous 4 Super Bowl champs explained here:

So, this didn't happen in teh post-season, but here's a cool slow-motion field-level shot of Navarro Bowman's Last-Dance-at-Candlestick interception return. It's fun to watch all the people in the background. :) Harbaugh and Gore being traffic cops, keeping people off the sideline....:D

Jim Caldwell is the Detroit Lions New Coach (http://www.totalpackers.com/2014/01/14/jim-caldwell-detroit-lions-new-coach/)

Only the Detroit Lions could Detroit Lions their search for a new coach. Ultimately, they landed Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator and former Indianapolis Colts coach Jim Caldwell.
I know I should link to ESPN vs a Packers fan site but I just liked the way they phrased this.

Ok, jokes aside, here's his head coaching record (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Caldwell_(American_football)):

Caldwell had one of the best debut seasons for a head coach in NFL history, finishing with a 14–2 record. The Colts rushed out to a 14–0 start. With the AFC South title and the top seed in the AFC playoffs secured, Caldwell opted (on orders from then GM, Bill Polian) to sit out his starting players the last two games of the season (both losses), drawing controversy to him and the team.[3] He later won his first playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens on January 16, 2010. On January 24, 2010, Caldwell became the 5th rookie head coach to lead his team to the Super Bowl with a 30–17 victory over the New York Jets. Caldwell holds the NFL record for the best start by a rookie head coach, starting his career with 14 wins. The 14 wins also tied a franchise record.

On February 7, 2010, Caldwell's rookie season ended with a 31–17 loss in Super Bowl XLIV to the New Orleans Saints. In his second season the Colts reached the playoffs where they lost to the New York Jets 17–16 on January 8, 2011.
Well that's a hell of a start. He also has a Super Bowl ring as the OC for the Super Bowl winning Baltimore Ravens. Here's hoping he doesn't repeat this success next season. ;)

Bills coach, Pettine, is being interviewed by the Browns for their HC vacancy. The Bills D was just about the only bright spot of the season, so it figures we'd lose him. Way to go, B'lo.

Now I don't watch much NFL at all but I am watching 49's vs Seahawks and I'm wondering if it's just me that thinks there are a lot of fumbles and dropped balls this game?

There were a lot in a short period there. Normally there's a few per game.

It's a good game though.

I'll put my bias up front. I was rooting for the 9'ers. I don't like Pete Carroll.

With that being said... um, there were a sizable amount of unjustified calls against the 9'ers. Just really bad reffing IMO. Seattle still played well enough to win... but ugh.

AND my man Bowman got injured. Nasty looking injury, too. :( Hope he recovers quickly.

While I may not be a fan of Pete Carroll, I am far happier that his squad won Seattle their first Superbowl than to see Harbah! win one with the 49ers. It's good for the young rivalry there in the NFC West, too.

Agreed, the incredible statistic was Peyton had great passing numbers, except for the interceptions but they were all very short passes and they couldn't get first downs.

Definitely the best defensive performance I've seen in ages.

The Chiefs and Royals play at Truman Sports Complex which is roughly 9 miles from the Missouri/Kansas Border.

Kansas

"It is situated at Kaw Point, which is the junction of the Missouri and Kansas rivers. It may be abbreviated as "KCK",[7][8] but is often referred to as "KCK" to differentiate it from the bordering city of Kansas City, Missouri (which is often referred to as "KCMO")."

Different Cities, as pointed out by your own link. Not the same city. The Kansas City Royals and Chiefs play in KCMO, Sporting KC is from KCK. You can attempt to continue to generalize, but nobody in their right mind from the Missouri side of the greater metropolitan area claims KCK until the last 15 years. Which is only done because the racetrack, Sporting KC (formerly the Wizards) played in Arrowhead, and a ton of shopping centers popped up around the track.

TheBenior

Given that Kansas has no NFL team, I have to think that there's a decent amount of Chiefs fans in Kansas, at least the Eastern part of it, so Jason's comment of "Everyone that doesn't live in bumfuck Kansas" would stand with the addition of "and Missouri." ;)
