I got a pebble.
First watch I've bought in about 15 years
(Got a gift about 2 years ago)

It's good in that I can control my iPhone music playing in my helmet while phone in pocket.
Also got a Ducati watch face for it.

But it's tech sexy, not style sexy

Seriously? "Affordable" is under $5000? :|

How about a list of cool/interesting/good watches for under $100?

MR2 Fan, I like the Deep Blue. Personally I'd have a hard time justifying $500+ for a watch unless I was absolutely crazy about it (like a Certina Podium GMT!) and had the money to spare. I see $500-700 and I think how much that would buy in MR2 improvements. :p But that's just me, being in car restoration mode lately.

Leon, great looking watch! Looks heavy - is it?

Rando, cool list! I haven't worn my Fossil Decker much, I think mainly because it turns out I don't care for the rubber strap. I've heard it's particularly difficult to change straps on that watch.

I've been thinking about all of these smart watches. They're all square or rectangular and none of them have a classic look to them.

I've considered making a watch that has the classic round face, with bezels that can be swapped out, and the watch face, since its digital can be changed to emulate many different styles.

Obviously it wil have some smart features, but just basics. I just wonder if other people would be interested in that?

Well you don't REALLY have to make it circular. Just make a square one where the bezel/frame goes around the square part of the display.

Kchrpm
February 21st, 2014, 07:38 PM
But then you can't really use the LCD to have different (good looking) watch faces.

Ok, apparently I'm not being very clear.

Here's a photo. Basically you design the watch frame as it were, to house a screen, say, 1.5 inch, you'd basically split what's one piece into two pieces, then the bezel goes on top.

Smartwatch design with zero engineering behind it. Usually I just ignore these, considering it's not much more than photoshopping a sweet picture onto a watch face and does not consider at all the realities of building the damn thing, but this one's extra pretty and discusses control ideas other than a touchscreen.

The thing is that I have a bunch of watches that I hardly wear. Most of them are actually out of battery. I suppose the watch case may help me decide to wear some of them more often. So, i'm strolling through the Duty Free shop at Frankfurt Airport, killing time on my four hour layover to South Africa. I happen towards the watches. I say happen because I didn't intend to go there and just happened to find myself there anyway. Some expensive ones, all glitzy and gaudy, some cheap ones, all gaudy and "hey look at me." Some ,... well what have we here. Anyone who knows me knows I favor function over form. And when it comes to watches that's just as true. Look at the selections i've posted in this thread.

There, nestled amongst the baubles and chintz are some Junkers watches. There seems to be a lot of interrelatedness between watches and aircraft and Junkers is another case. They used to make airplanes in the early to middle part of the last century. And sitting amidst them are two that immediately capture my eye. Three really, but I already have a plain aviator type watch, my Maratac Pilot.

http://wornandwound.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/MARATAC_PILOT_WHOLE12.jpg Not my picture.

So I ignore that gorgeous pilot watch they have on display, and instead focus on two particular chronographs nestled amongst the others. One has a pusher on the upper part of the left side in addition to the two on the right. Squinting, I gather that it has an alarm, and it falls a few rungs as a result. I'd rather have a mechanical watch. Also, I see some green on the dial, designating some arcane function i probably wont use, and just a smidge of red, for some other even less likely to be used feature. That's enough to turn my attention to the other one.

This one is stunning. I gather it's an anniversary model from the 150 Jahrs on the face. It's also a more reasonable 220 euros vs the 250 euros of the one I just dismissed. I wrestle with the idea of buying it then, but, who wants to spend money before they've even reached their destination? I decide I can wait. I take a couple of lousy pics with my phone. If it's intended to be, be there on my return in three weeks.

I go. I sit. I fidget. I read. I go take a shower. I check emails and Jalopnik. I decide to go buy the watch. It might not be there when I get back. I gather my few tihngs and go back to the shop. It's gone. I'm heartbroken. This little shop is not the type to have stock elsewhere, otherwise why would they sell the display model? I remember passing another Duty Free Shop earlier and try my luck at that one. Nothing.

Oh well, it's not meant to be.

3 weeks later I decide to reward myself with the same watch. I've been doing some research on it and it sells for significantly more than I saw it priced. I head over to the same DF shop and they don't even have the Junkers watches in their display anymore. Oh no. I hurry over to the other one and don't see it on display. I'm crestfallen. I try to justify spending $485 on a watch when I get home, but decide that's a bitter pill to swallow. The nice lady asks me if she can help me. I break out my phone and ask if they no longer have the watch in the picture. She takes a look, looks in the case, and says, "let me see. I think I saw..." She walks off and comes back with a key. She tries the drawer under the display. No joy. She tries the other drawer and this one looks promising. It has cases with the Junkers logo on them and so and fumbles with a watch or two before bringing up the very watch I wanted. It's different, as it doesn't have the 150 Years annotation on it, but it's less busy as a result, and that's ok with me. I bust out the credit card and behold, a new watch is mine.

Here she is. Not my picture. And mine doesn't have the 150 Jahrs on it.

Well this was unexpected but I am now the proud owner of a new watch. A 2014 TdF limited edition Festina chronograph. I say limited edition advisedly as they did make 10,000 of them. They (official UK distributor) also had the limited edition they brought out to celebrate 100 years of the tour, along with most of the rest of the range or so it seemed. There was hardly anything in price between the two but I preferred the looks of the 2014 edition as being slightly more understated. A few photos attached but they don't do it justice.

It must have been fate as earlier this week I noticed that part of the back of my Fossil, which has seen daily service for over six years, had fallen off. Nothing major, just a slim disc shaped piece which sits in the centre. I'm not sure it really provides any function other than to give a flat surface to the back. Anyway Festina are the official time keeper for the Tour of Britain, which I visited today, and to celebrate had 20% off all models. I've long admired their sports models and after spending much time uming and ahring managed to talk myself into a purchase. I got a new Festina top thrown in as well. I still have an old official team one plus bib shorts from back when I bought my first road bike, this was just at the time the big drug scandals were breaking! And I've always wanted a chronograph, seeing the 10th/sec hand spin round is so sexy :D

This is the model for anyone interested: http://www.festina.com/en/collections/man/limited-edition/f16776_1-2-2/

Really wanted the blue Orient Pilot watch, but I couldn't find it anywhere. Even at only 41mm, it's about the biggest watch I'd want to put on my tiny wrist. Interestingly the secondary language on the day of the week is Arabic on mine. I really like that it has 24 hour on the inner ring, as I use that for every clock that allows it.

Don't resort to that yet. Let it bed in a bit; and if that fails, it's common courtesy to give a misbehaving cheap Seiko automatic a slap on the back of the case if it's running fast. Seriously, it's like smacking the top of an old tube TV. It just works sometimes.

Adjusting it yourself is going to be a crap shoot without the necessary-ish equipment. That movement adjusted perfectly will tick 518400 times in one day. Your watch is fast by an extra 180 ticks over that time span.

They picked a reasonable color combination (there are tons available), not one of my top 2 favorites (1 (http://watches.uhrzeit.org/bilder/uhren/C0016391605701_2.jpg), 2 (http://www.bodying.com.au/watches/images/certina/c001_639_16_037_00-big3.jpg)) but since it was a surprise, it's awesome anyway.

The hybrid leather/clasp band is most uncomfortable, so I'll have to look for something to replace that with. I like the comfort of canvas bands but I don't know that one would go with a watch like this.

I want to find a NATO strap for it too, though the brown leather isn't bad. It's already starting to break in and get more comfortable. I wish I had bought the Martini colored strap I saw once, now I can't find it.

For only a few bucks more than my Seiko I bought earlier, it's much better quality. Runs about 10sec/day fast out of the box, and has a much larger power reserve (at least it's supposed to, haven't tested it yet).

Gents, I could use some watch disposal advice, if anyone feels charitable.

In 1994, I was given a Swiss Army Officer's Watch with a metal bracelet which looks just like the picture below, that I just found online. It cost about $225 back then. It's battery-driven, of course (is quartz the proper term for that?).

A long time ago, the battery died. I had it replaced, but the watch didn't start working again. The person who replaced the battery suggested I have the watch cleaned, to make it start working again. I thought only automatics had to be cleaned, but I'll be the first to admit that I don't know much about wristwatches.

Okay. A good ten years later, if not more, I found it in a drawer, and tonight after work I took it to a watch repair shop. I was quoted $95 for a new mechanism.

Edited to add: not mechanism. Movement. I just remembered that.

I don't want to spend $95 on this watch. What are my options for getting rid of it? I hate to just throw it in the trash or recycling bin. Are there watch nerds out there who would want it?

I searched my local craigslist jewelry section just now for "broken watch" but didn't find a thriving market for old watch parts.

Even though it was a gift, that person is long gone from my life and this has no sentimental value, other than I sure liked how it looked and felt and worked, back when it did.

What should I do with it?

Edited to add: should I get a second opinion at another shop? I have no reason to think this shop is disreputable or pegged me for a rube, but ya never know. Maybe they saw me looking at the Casio G-Shock display (the only watches in the joint I could afford) and figured I was a sucker. Eh...they're probably right.

Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestions, Josh and YW. I really can't be bothered trying to sell a broken watch for peanuts, so I'll probably just recycle it, but I just hate to get rid of things like that. I always assume there's some guy somewhere wringing his hands and thinking, "Oh, IF ONLY I could find a part for this watch...", but as I saw one of these with a $30 BIN on eBay last night, I'm not going to lose too much sleep over it. I really did think that was a quality watch, but today on the forum that Josh linked I saw someone claim to have bought a similar Swiss Army watch for $5 at a flea market, so I guess I never did know anything about watches to begin with, other than what my college roommate told me about his Tudor, and from old Timex ads back when they were built well enough to "take a lickin' and keep on tickin'".

I did some googling today and discovered Seiko 5 automatics. They're new to me, but apparently have been around for along time and have the things I like - they're said to be durable, surprisingly affordable, and I liked the classic appearance of most I saw.

I do still have a late'-80s Casio that's styled like a scuba diving watch that I should probably have a new battery put in, while I'm thinking of watches. Trouble is, that one is just like the cheap Timexes I've picked up for nearly nothing recently at a nearby discount sporting goods store: too big to fit under a dress shirt cuff when it's time to look like a grown-up.

Yeah, seikos and orients are really good buys if you want an automatic. If the automatic thing isn't that important, I highly recommend Citizen - They're quartz, but powered by some sort of solar element in the face that charges a capacitor or something, so no battery. A lot of them are really tough - Mine hasn't missed a beat, and archaeological fieldwork can be like a torture chamber designed to break watches.

I don't know if it is or it isn't. I'm so clueless.
With an automatic timepiece you won't have to replace a battery every few years. (The battery types are commonly known as quartz watches, as you guessed). Automatic watches all need some form of care in order to keep running. Three common options:

- Solar. Many can store solar energy for weeks, maybe months. But leave it in the dark too long and it'll eventually stop. Indoor light is enough to keep it charged for a while. Citizen calls their solar watches EcoDrive and Seiko calls their line Solar.
- Kinetic movement. A weight (sometimes visible through a clear case backing) moves in a circular motion inside the case as you move around during normal daily activity and the watch movement stores energy in a spring (someone correct me if my assumption is wrong). Leave the watch unworn for long enough (days or weeks I want to say) and it'll stop. You can move it around 'manually' for a few minutes in your hand to restart it.
- Old fashioned winding of the crown. I've never owned one of these so I cant' comment on power reserve. Some fancier watches have a sub-dial that tells you how much power is stored in the mechanism.

For me the solar watch is my favorite power option, but there are many other considerations when choosing a watch. Style, size, weight, cost, lume, just to name a few. I own more quartz watches than anything else, but I am a cheapskate who is picky about style. :)

Also, some $10-20 watches can look cool in pictures on the internet but are not of very good quality when you see, touch, and use them in the real world. Something to be aware of. I do like my newest Fauxlex (https://www.amazon.com/WatchStar-Waterproof-Leather-Military-Digital/dp/B018VMVFZW) for what it is, though. :D

I've become a Seiko/Citizen fan for their high quality, good value, and variety of well executed styles.

And MR2 Fan, thanks a lot for posting that pic (sarcasm). ;) That Orient in black is looking real good again. A dress watch is something I'm missing from the collection and I'm of the opinion a dress watch worn with a suit should be a proper mechanical time piece, not a quartz movement. Orients are relatively affordable, quality automatics from what I hear. Maybe that'll be next year's watch. Or an SKX009... I don't have any divers either. :p

Yeah, Citizen ecoDrives are great. Highly recommend.

Minor clarification: When I was referring to "automatic," I was referring to mechanical automatics which store energy (gained from a weight moving around) in a spring - also referred to as "self-winding". This is what all of the Seiko 5 series watches are. And pretty much every other watch you see listed as "automatic." They need to either be worn regularly (like, once a week minimum I think, though it depends on the watch) otherwise, it'll wind down and have to be reset. They make cases for these that move them around to keep them wound up.

Kinetic is slightly different - that's a specific product line produced by seiko. It uses a little weight to generate energy which, unlike an automatic/self-winding - is converted to electrical energy and stored in a battery which powers a quartz movement. Its a really cool idea.

The old-fashioned 'turn the knob to wind a spring' type is usually referred to as either 'manual' or 'hand-wound'

One thing to keep in mind is that while neither of the mechanical types require batteries, they do need periodic maintenance and cleaning. Also, the Citizen EcoDrives (and I think the Seiko Kinetics) don't take batteries either - like I said, they've got some kind of capacitor or something, which lasts like 20 years. I'm not sure if the Seiko solars are the same, or if they use normal batteries.

I have/had a Seiko 5 and a Orient Pilot. The Orient blows the Seiko out of the water. Higher quality, better time, and much more durable. The Seiko scratched immediately, and broke on its first short drop. The Orient I've been wearing daily for the last year, bumping into things, etc, and not a blemish.

Out of the box, the Seiko was way fast. Maybe 70 seconds a day? I forget, but it was a lot. Some tinkering and I got it down to less than 20 I think. The Orient gains about a minute a week, never adjusted it. All based on the clock we use at work (a TV station, so it's accurate).

JoshInKC

Not that I can readily see. That style of watch is called an aviator or pilot's watch and they'll pretty much all have either a leather or canvas band. You might have slightly better luck looking for what are 'military' or 'field' watches, which tend to have similarly simple/readable faces, though most of those also have leather/canvas straps. I have seen a few with metal bracelets though.

FaultyMario
November 11th, 2016, 07:52 AM
If you'd want to change to a metal band, the swap is prettly simple, the band is held in place by a a spring-loaded connector, you need a really small screwdriver to pop it out/in.

George
November 11th, 2016, 08:45 AM
Right. And I've switched bands before, such as putting a leather band on my last watch that came with a matching metal band originally, so I'm familiar with those little pins.

Wait, isn't that contradictory to what I just asked about? Well, yes, but the point is I would like a matching metal band, not just some aftermarket metal band that's "close enough". Then I can swap bands around when I feel like it but when the metal band is on, it should match and also have the properly fitting curved parts so there's no gap between the round sides of the watch and the square end of a metal band.

I guess I too am a cheapskate who is picky about style. :)

There are lots of watches that have multiple band/strap options to choose from for that specific model. Looks like you've discovered that Orient isn't one of them.

Minor clarification:

Well, yeah, if you want to be all, like, correct and stuff. ;) Thanks for the clarity. My mind was pretty mush when I wrote that. And now I've learned that some watches use a rotating weight to charge a battery... interesting.

I remember years ago in a shop, I was still in high school and a sales person tried to convince me a certain watch "runs off your pulse." Did I really look that dumb? :)

Some (or most?) automatics still have a manual winding option. Seikos do not, and have had the term "seiko shuffle" used as a term to manually wind the watch (move the watch around enough to get the rotor spinning and charge the power reserve.

I have a $10 Amazon gift card that I won at work for filling out a HR benefits survey (apparently so few employees do that they pay people for it), and the HR lady has been hounding me to use it, since it keeps showing up on her report of open items or some such. I might just use that to knock the price of one of these down from cheap to really cheap:

https://www.amazon.com/Timex-Weekender-Analog-Canvas-Strap/dp/B01M636GNK/ref=cts_wa_1_vtp?_encoding=UTF8&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=2601945442&pf_rd_r=XHXPAG4WKQ4M7ADQ4RJZ&pd_rd_wg=SeuAD&pf_rd_s=desktop-detail-softlines&pf_rd_t=40701&pd_rd_i=B01M636GNK&pd_rd_w=O9FUI&pf_rd_i=desktop-detail-softlines&pd_rd_r=XHXPAG4WKQ4M7ADQ4RJZ

I figure if I'm not going to wear something to really be proud of, a Timex is (or used to be) better thought of than, say Armitron or whatever else they sell in department stores as "mens fashion watches". You know, the gold-tone ones with the gold that practically wipes off to reveal that it's made from recycled beer cans.

Eventually I'll get something nicer. I was looking at the Orient Defender watch with a stanless steel band online, and I really like the ones with the blue face, but apparently those are discontinued or at least out of stock on every watch-selling link I clicked. If I hadn't seen the blue ones, I'd probably be okay with black.

https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/41h45u8740L._SY300_.jpg

I like this one too, even better in green, and simpler...except for the band. This is the Orient Stingray. What I need is a local watch shop with both in stock so they could put the simpler band of the Defender on a green Stingray for me. Chances of that happening? Approximately zero, I'm thinking.

Long Island Watch put my preferred variety of Orient Symphony II (http://www.longislandwatch.com/Orient_ER2700GB_Dress_Watch_p/er2700gb.htm) on sale for Black Friday / Cyber Monday weekend. $87 shipped. Great value. I debated too long. Should have known better. They're out of stock now. I'm considering ordering the bracelet version (http://www.longislandwatch.com/Orient_ER2700EB_Dress_Watch_p/er2700eb.htm) and an aftermarket leather strap to put on it. That kills the discount by half, but I've still been eyeing one of these so YOLO and all that.

Strange that I normally don't go for metal bracelets but I love the way my Nighthawk looks and feels with it.

Also I'm considering venturing into colorful NATO fun with something cheap like the Timex Weekender Chrono (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00QIJ6HW2), with a white face and a few straps to go with it. The Weekender Chrono is a nice price and a decent looking watch, if a little cheap in its finish (Target has them out in the open).

I've also started to look into vintage digital watches. Mainly because I had a few as a kid and some designs bring back memories of a bygone era. Man I'm old.

Doing some research, one watch I had growing up that I distinctly remember is the Casio W71:

https://mdata.yandex.net/i?path=b0901041026_img_id8676400737878801455.jpg

No longer available of course. Used examples likely all thrashed, as mine was.

But Casio still (or again?) produces some old school digitals. Likely I'll end up with an F91-W. For $10 how could you not!

http://www.iconeye.com/images/2014/04/iStock_000015913029Large.jpg

There's also the AL-180, which caught my eye for its clean design. Looks like there are some "NOS" watches on eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/rare-vintage-casio-AL-180-AL180-solar-watch-Battery-Less-Made-In-Japan-NOS-NEW/222228102396), but I wonder if they are cheaply made fakes. They're kind of pricey too.

https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8662/16677243736_322cab031f_b.jpg

I think this is one of those weeks where 25% of the watches I see are must-haves. Ought to wait this out and prioritize. Although a $10 watch that you like is kind of a no-brainer.

Yeah, probably a bad idea to fly with one. Wonder why the multitude of other Casio digital variants aren't infamous for detonator use if that one is. Sure it's the cheapest but not by much. I actually prefer its design over most of the others.

MR2 Fan - I'm sure I had something similar to that as well. I think in more of a traditional round form factor but definitely something along that order. Things are fuzzy. :) The reason I remember which Casio I had is because I have a distinct image of part of the display in my head, and the W71 is the only model that has that particular nuance. The brain is a funny thing.

Who didn't?

*raises hand*

I remember Ironman watches. They were the first digital watches that looked cool to me, but I never owned one of the originals.

The second digital watch that looked cool to me was this, which was hugely popular when I was in college. My friend Bryan threw his from a fourth-floor balcony to a paved parking lot below and it wasn't damaged. We all had a good Beavis & Butthead style giggle-fest about that, I'm sure.

And I must say, in part to counterbalance all the grumbling I do about how much things cost these days, I'm pleasantly surprised to see how little these have gone up in price. For some reason the number $44 sticks in my mind for what mine cost in the '80s, and I see now this older model is selling for not a lot more than that.

http://world.g-shock.com/asia-mea/en/concept/history/img/pc/DW-5000C.png

It's what I really should wear in terms of functionality, but they no longer work for me visually.

Just figured out last night that there is an additional size adjustment point in the clasp, so I'll be able to fine tune the bracelet size. Last week, I got the bracelet to the point that it was either definitely too loose (three links removed) or just a smidge too tight (four links removed). I'll play with it some more tonight and see what a combination of adding a link and adjusting the clasp does. :)

It was hard to capture in photos but the face has a subtle sunburst effect when the light hits it.

Is it a faux paux to put a German band on a Japanese watch? :P

-

I went ahead and got the Timex Weekender Chrono, too. At $36 on Amazon it was tough not to. This bright yellowy/orange leather NATO strap isn't quite what I wanted either but it was the cheapest way to get this watch with the silver hands on a white face. I've got a few straps of various colors on the way, some of which I can put on my other Timex as well (they are my only 20mm lug width watches). I fixed that Timex, by the way. I'm not quite sure how but I fixed it. On both of my modern Timexes there seems to be occasionally spongy action from the detents in the crown.

http://www.pbase.com/bryanh/image/164873947/original.jpg
The face is slightly off white, almost a cream color.

I'm thinking about selling my Fossil. I think it looks great but for some reason I never wear it. I thought it was the rubber strap, but even now on a cool carbon fiber texture leather strap I still find myself rarely reaching for the Fossil.

I also ought to look up the best cleaning methods. A few of my oft-worn watches need a little grime removal. There's metal to clean but also canvas/leather hybrid straps.

Me too. I usually wear 42-44mm watches. 44 is realistically as big as I can go before the lug tips start to overflow off the ends of my wrist. This Timex is 40mm. The lug tips are further apart top to bottom than I would expect but they do curve inwards at the ends so you could use a non-NATO strap to make it wear a little bit smaller. Also the case itself is fairly thick for a 40mm watch I think.

4.) wear homages/replica watches (/me looks around ) because the real deal are a few thousand to several thousand way out of the price range for normal people.

This is a great "entry level" swiss watch it looks like.

Those look good, especially for the price.

I really like the Moon & Mercury ones. I'm a sucker for greys.

I really like the Moon & Mercury ones. I'm a sucker for greys.

Tempted to buy the grey one too.

I like watches, and still wear mine, even with a smart watch on the other wrist (I get random speeding heart rate) but the ones I have are too nice for daily beaters. My Maratac Big Pilot sees the most wrist time, but it's too nice a watch (for an unknown brand) to bang about daily. Same with my Seiko SPORK and Junkers Chrono. This Swatch (a homage to my favorite famous/ special watch too) might just be my perfect daily beater.

I doubt you'll find them for list price anytime soon? At least out here.

I do generally use a Fenix 6 with an O. SM homage Watchface by Dfaina.

color patterns...ahem "colourways"

The first time I heard this was in reference to golf clubs by golf youtube influencers.

Guy complains about the quality of his Omega x Swatch.

Honestly, just get a good nodded Casioak. Totally worth it.

I daily wear a smart(ish) watch myself nowadays, a Garmin. With its case shape it has the appearance more like a normal watch, and it's tough as nails (I've hit it hard on lots of stuff, you can't tell though). Mainly I wear it because it's so convenient and I can see whether a text is important before I get my phone out or pull over. Kind of a shame but I haven't had a reason to wear a cool or stylish watch in a few years. I still like watches and these Swatchmegas look pretty cool, maybe one will end up on my wrist if they're ever easily available for MSRP. The Omega Speedmaster has always been a favorite of mine.

I daily wear a Garmin Forerunner 935. Bought it as a fitness watch for running. I use it as a heart rate monitor for the indoor bike, and it gives me distances to the green and hazards on the golf course. Pretty cool.

I created a custom event for it to record Heart Rate while doing time trial runs. I didn't find much value in the data.

Thanks to a coworker who also is an epidemiologist of some renown - which has been handy during COVID but who also is made of money in a way I'll likely never be - I've gotten sucked into the world of fancy mechanical watches. Pretty quickly, I discovered that I'm far too clumsy to spend serious money on watches with metal bracelets. Within hours I put some scratches in them. That said, I've been tempted by the Omega Speedmaster, thanks to the whole "moon watch" connection. I'm definitely down to clown with one of the Omega x Swatch Speedmaster - honestly I'd rather it not look *too much* like the real thing, so I think it's the Saturn or Neptune versions for me.

That said, if I'm going to spend enough on a watch to buy a genuine Speedmaster, I think I'd rather an RGM-801 Pennsylvania Series - RGM makes the only watches with movements not only designed and built in the USA, but from Pennsylvania in particular. They're stupid money, but if you're ready to spend $6,000 on a watch, you're ready to spend $12,000 on a watch.

That said, the most I've spent on a watch to this point is $1,900 - and honestly I think I enjoy my pocket watch collection more, despite the sum total of the six of them being not much more than the $1,900 I spent on on a Ball Engineer III Bronze.

I thought I had posted about it here, but I got a Fossil Android smartwatch back in 2019. It got water damage or something in 2020 and wouldn't charge IIRC, sent it in for a warranty repair, and it's been going strong ever since.

I found a watchface app that lets you select 9 different backgrounds (on your phone) to choose from at any time (on the watch), as well as several options for different analog and digital watch styles. That plus the normal stuff (notifications, exercise tracking, shopping list, etc), and I love the look (black metal, including the mesh band, except for a gold ring around the face), means I've been really happy with it.
