Played GT6 for the first time in months last night purely because of the GT Academy. But in saying that, as soon as i got gold on the Nissan Leaf test (which sounds like a jet plane :D ) i quit the event.

Have got no real interest in winning GT Academy like Bryan etc, mainly because i know i'm not that skilled in the game and also because i do real motorsports for fun, and wouldn't want to do it as a career option/job sorta thing.

But yeah. I see 359 had the quickest time when i did it, out of those on my friends list anyway.

I only did about four laps before whacking a cone. Amongst my friends list, I'm like fifth, so it was just a toe in the water. I'll spend more time on it later.

I'd imagine the Leaf test is just a preliminary, and the cars will get more interesting as the rounds progress. I might as well have a quick go at it for fun, if I can set aside some time.

I reckon you should enter, Bryan. You'd probably win it. Imagine that!

That would be Gran Turismo Inception!

Or a job for Xzibit.

Last event is in June according to the game, so maybe it will be on a new track...

Totally an Xzibit job.

Bloody academy, wouldn't register my time and then locked up the ps3

I was happy just to set a gold time and leave the fast times to the stars.

Sadly for me, the only thing that will get me interested in GT6 again is new tracks to download or a new update that dramatically improves overall performance of the game. I mean at some point I'll likely fire it up and run a lap or two at the ring or something, but GT Academy and seasonal events and time trials...just not any sort of draw for me.

The second Academy qualifier is pretty fun - 370Z at Apricot Hill. Lots of nice four-wheel drifts and balancing on the throttle.

Got to 1'37.277 so far (gold is 1'38).

it ain't bad. Took 7 laps to get gold at 37.9xx

37.2xx as of last night. Just a bit early on the throttle and around you go.

Think i got a 1:36.98x at the mo. Can go a bit faster, but i always screw up somewhere else in the lap and lose all that time. :(

I am at 37.1. Having problems with the hairpin at the end of the straight to the end. I have been up .3 as I enter the straight and then it falls apart.

Have you guys tried shifting repeatedly? Flooring it halfway down the straightaway? Slowly moving the wheel left and right while travelling in a straight line?

yep, repeatedly

Then I've got nothing.

Was that a serious suggestion? Does that really work? Or am I missing the joke here?

I was making references to movie tropes.

Interesting point, in earlier generations of the Franchise, swerving while stopping would actually aid in braking performance.

This version braking is done best in a straight line, it will swap ends very quickly

I don't doubt that, I just remember the hilarity of braking tests and swerving to get a better time.

Finally put a lap in of the 370Z, love the sliding at Apricot. Its a nice drive, just need to perfect it. I'm .001 seconds off of Skyline's time after a few laps. ;)

EDIT: Scratch that, found a few tenths. 1:36.5 so far, second fastest on my friends list. And it was really not a great lap either.

I am stuck were I'm at. The hairpin on is killing my times

Round 3 is up. The 370 is fast on Panarama. There are some spots that if you cross the white line the lap is no good. The Rumble strip on the last corner going to the flag is one of those too.

You mean the GT-R?

My best so far is a 1:16.9xx, i can do better but i think i might struggle to do better than 1:16.500, so i'm just going to leave it at that.

Gold time is 1:19.000 and the world record was a 1:12.xxx when i was doing the race, from an Aussie GTPlanet.net member.

I'm assuming you guys mean 2:xx, not 1:xx ;-)

I'm loving Bathurst, the track margins are a bit strict but it's a great fun challenge to nail it. I quite like the way the GTR tightens its line under power, too. I'm at 2'15.242 so far (I think).

The GTPlanet guys have found that the final challenge that will count will be the Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 Team RJN '13 @ SPA - maybe time for some pre-qualy practice ;-)
