Since Keith reminded me, here's a thread for LM this year. Porsche, Audi, Toyota, and for once Audi is not looking the strongest at the moment. A couple new prototypes, Rebellion R-One and Ligier JS P2, as well as a couple new prototypes that have dropped out of the race. They managed to burn through all 10 reserve entries, and even invite back a team that previously withdrew, and even after all of that it's not 100% certain that there will still be a 56 car field on race day.

Anyway, here's the full entry list as of now.

I don't have any TV listings at the moment because FOX's schedule only goes 1 week into the future, but from everything that's been discussed, all 24 hours will be broadcast, just not entirely sure if all of that will be on television or not. Likely split between FOX Sports 1 and 2 though.

Americans are a bit depleted this year with no Risi, no Vipers, and no Level 5 going to Europe. However American teams have joined up with some existing entries: Flying Lizard is working with the JMW Ferrari, while Alex Job Racing has taken over the #79 Prospeed Porsche. Dyson is working with Greaves on the #42 Caterham LMP2, and Ricky Taylor has also jumped into the Larbre LMP2.

I've been listening to Radio Le Mans' Midweek Motorsports this year since I realized last year just how good WEC was getting and, especially with the return of Porsche in LMP1, how good it would be this year. They've got three preview episodes up now with Hindy and Graham from Daily SportsCar (I listen via their feed on the iOS Podcast app, I'm sure there's other ways to single out those episodes from the RLM feed) -- one on GTE Pro and Am, one on LMP2, and one on LMP1 that I still haven't gotten to quite yet. I'm getting really excited -- I'm always excited for Le Mans, but this year promises to be a classic in the making.

And yeah, Dempsey is the actor...but he's in the Paul Newman camp where racing is something he really loves and throws his passion into. He's been racing in Grand-Am for a number of years, but is finally out of the tube frame nonsense and back into a 'proper' GT car. He's exactly the kind of guy we'd all love to be -- have plenty of money from work to throw at the racing hobby :D

I think Toyota's gotta be the favorites for overall right now. Audi has experience but they seem to have gambled and missed on the best combination of power train, Porsche is still inexperienced, but Toyota has learned from the last two years and have the right tool for Le Mans. A comment from RLM that still stands out to me is that Porsche this year and Toyota their first year tried to build something very jewel-like -- a LMP that was done like a Formula 1 car from the sense that the tolerances and parts were all machined to within an inch of their lives. However, Le Mans and endurance racing requires less of that and more reliability and simplicity, and while Porsche seems to lack that, Toyota have built that into their design. It's amazing that one of the cars at Silverstone was still super quick despite being shuffled into a fuel-saving mode for part of the race.

also, Free CudaMan. I guarantee he's not getting the same love as the other GT Academy prospects because he doesn't fit what they're looking for -- early 20s, namely. Nissan USA not being as involved also hurts, but c'mon man...he's quick, get a couple P2s over in TUSC already!

Surely there would have been white flags waved?
That Toyota? was going way too fast to avoid anything moving slowly. The Audi moved,he pulled left off the race line when he saw that car coming, far too fast.

The359
June 12th, 2014, 07:29 PM
Well the pit entrance was on the Audi's right, so there was no reason he needed to turn left, so the LMP2 car should have been fine. I think the Audi driver was just going a quick wiggle of the car to check the suspension before he came into the pits to warn the crew.

Bummed that Toyota couldn't pull it off, they really had that one in hand, and besides the failure on the 7, they had very few mechnical issues compared to the Audis and Porsches. Would have been nice to see the Porsche win when they got the lead, but it was clear they were way off the pace anyway, so Audi would have caught them no matter what. Seems so difficult to stop that Audi luck.

Also bummed that Aston Martin couldn't keep it going in LMGTE Pro. Obviously the power steering is an issue, but at least it didn't hit the 95 car.

Would have been awesome to see the Ligier with Mardenborough and Shulzhitsky win LMP2, especially since the Ligier hasn't had a single race lap before. All three of them finished in the top seven in class.

Also a shame the Nissan was taken out by an issue unrelated to the hybrid drivetrain. Similar to the DeltaWing being the innocent bystander and getting punted.

Right, I just hadn't noticed them before and their car looks like they use is more aero based than the others even which you posted. The mirror attaches below the height of the fender. That must supply better aero on the back half of the car.
