I know some of you have been waiting for it, and it's just been announced.

Set in southern Europe and has a weather system.

Really stoked! I loved Horizon.

But... XBox One AND 360? I guess because it's Playground games, they have to do a port? Since owning an X1, I've been more interested in games developed ONLY for that console. But hey, beggars can't be choosers.

I'm definitely in for this. I wonder (hope), will X360 and X1 games connect to each other?

You are kind of getting your wish:

UPDATE: To clarify, the Playground Games is developing solely for the Xbox One version, using Forza Motorsport 5's graphics engine as a baseline. The Xbox 360 version is being handled separately by Sumo Digital.

Highly unlikely, especially with the additional information you just provided.

Yeah, thinking the same thing. Sounds like the X360 version is going to be a fairly different game.

I'll miss Coolerado, but looking forward to it.

Will be interesting to see what version gets reviewed better... the cynic in me thinks the 360 version will be a crap fest, to help nudge people to the Xbone. "Oh, yeah the frame rate and xyz suck because of the 360 limitations, we tried, but if you want a good gaming experience, you should be a XBONE"

Even if it's a shitshow on the 360, I'm still in. :assclown:

Lovin' the fact that I don't have to upgrade until Destiny 2/FH3/GTA6 at this point. :rawk:

(But yeah Kid, I am finally leaning more towards a Kinect-less XBONE over a PS4 at this point.)

Forza Horizon 2 Runs at 1080p and 30fps on Xbox One, Dev Confirms (http://news.softpedia.com/news/Forza-Horizon-2-Runs-at-1080p-and-30fps-on-Xbox-One-Dev-Confirms-445383.shtml)

"I think what we did on Horizon was demonstrate that, and this is really important, a locked frame rate that’s absolutely solid and never drops is the most important thing for our game. 30 [frames-per-second] actually enables us to realize that experience. I think I remember that’s always a hot-button topic, until a game comes out and people go, 'Oh, this actually really works.' But 1080p was an absolute must for us; it’s the benchmark for next-gen."

[Creative Director Ralph] Fulton emphasized that Forza Motorsport 5 wasn't an open world game, as it loaded just the current circuit and the surroundings, without worrying about the rest of the possible levels in the game. Forza Horizon 2, however, has an open world, which can be explored by players in any way they want, including at high speeds.

"The biggest difference is that, obviously, we’re an open-world streaming game. We need to be able to drive in any direction at up to 270 miles an hour. So one of the big technical challenges that we had to face was making sure that we could stream in a world that is next-gen beautiful, but fast enough to keep up with the fastest car."
Also, Drivatars are back... so you can have your open-ish world game play itself.

Horizon 2 will be taking a big risk and launching WITHOUT microtransactions to unlock vehicles

http://www.joystiq.com/2014/06/18/forza-horizon-2-to-debut-without-microtransaction-tokens/?ncid=rss_truncated

Though these "tokens" were an omnipresent hallmark of Forza Motorsport 5, developer Playground Games prefers to grant players new cars based on their in-game performance, instead of their meatspace bank accounts. "The approach we've taken is that we've designed our game at Playground Games from the ground up to be fair, to be fun, to be rewarding," creative director Ralph Fulton told Digital Spy. "That's incredibly important to us. For that reason, we will launch in September without tokens."

The idea, Fulton claims, is to offer players the ability to switch vehicles on a whim without having to spend real money to do so. "We want to enable you, at very regular intervals, to be able to change your car, pick a new one from the list," Fulton said. "If that doesn't work out, you're able to buy a new one really quickly."

That idea is SO crazy, it just might work.

So, money will come really easy? :(

Kchrpm
June 19th, 2014, 06:39 AM
Not sure about speed of money, but you can win a random car when leveling up.

He also said that players can gain early access to premium vehicles through a "fruit machine, tombola-style" system as seen in the original's online multiplayer.

"When you do level up, we give you a shot at what we call 'The Horizon Wheel Spin'," he explained.

"We used it in the original in online, and you get to spin and it can be anything from some cash, a load of cash, to a car or to the best car in the game.

"Every time you level up we've got this game of chance, and for the lucky guys, they could be a getting a Bugatti Veyron after playing the game for 30 minutes."

"We want to enable you, at very regular intervals, to be able to change your car, pick a new one from the list," Fulton said. "If that doesn't work out, you're able to buy a new one really quickly."

I am torn between buying from a retail store and getting a free car, and buying from Microsoft and getting XBL$10. I don't think a Ferrari California is worth $10, so I'm inclined to buy from the MS store - probably use that $10 for DLC.

GreatScawt
August 15th, 2014, 10:47 AM
Same... I may have to do that soon.

Not that you're considering this (and maybe someone posted this already), but they announced at Gamescom that you will be able to pre-order and pre-load games (ala Steam) on X1. Horizon 2 and Fifa will be the first couple of games you can do that with.

thesameguy

I actually did consider it, but after the GTAV fiasco on the X360 I am not going to risk downloading xbox games. I don't want to risk having a different, glitchy, lower-quality game because I didn't get a physical copy. :(

The options are nothing, one of three cars from various retailers (Ferrari California, BMW M6 Coupe, and something else), or XBL$10 from the Microsoft Store. There is a car bonus for pre-ordering that is a few cars. That's it.

Forza Horizon 2 Xbox One Demo Launches on September 16 (http://news.softpedia.com/news/Forza-Horizon-2-Xbox-One-Demo-Launches-on-September-16-456619.shtml)

The free trial is set to debut for the Xbox One platform on September 16. As of yet, it's unlikely that an Xbox 360 version of the demo will appear.

"Explore the beauty of southern Europe in a handful of the world’s most beautiful cars in this demo, which has been designed to give you a brief taste of what to expect when Forza Horizon 2 launches."

After two weeks, on September 30, the full-fledged version of the game is going to be released on Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Forza Horizon 2 Is Now Gold, Gets Fresh 13-Minute Gameplay Video (http://news.softpedia.com/news/Forza-Horizon-2-Is-Now-Gold-Gets-Fresh-13-Minute-Gameplay-Video-458951.shtml)

In honor of the great moment, a brand new video with 13 minutes of pure gameplay footage has just been released online, showing off some of the early moments of the game, in which players drive the impressive Lamborghini Huracan to the Horizon festival.

The footage was recorded on the Xbox One platform, but Horizon 2 is also coming to the Xbox 360 with the same amount of features, albeit with a lower visual performance.

Don't forget that today, September 16, a Forza Horizon 2 demo will be available for download on the Xbox One platform.

It is this, all of this.

Picked it up at lunch and installed it; played a bit when it hit 22% before heading back to work.

The intro is cool -- dropped into a quick race from the docks of some Italian town to the Horizon Festival (heh, I didn't see any signs in the game that said "Forza Horizon" -- it's all "Horizon Festival" now; sign of things to come?). Looks very tight, very lush. The rumble triggers are a nice touch, although on something like the Lamborghini Huracán I think they're communicating a bit too much: no way that car's brake & gas pedals feel that reactive! #feelslikeacaterham

I was offered a choice between a 2014 BMW Z4 w/. retractable hardtop (no clue if it works in-game), a 1969 Camaro SS and a 1998 Toyota Supra RZ. While I'm not crazy about right-hand-drive cars in video games, I still choose the H00pra -- because H00pra. :D

I started the second narrative race (first race in my own car) and sure enough, it lead us off-road through some farm fields! Can't see The Line so well through the leafy stuff! Definitely gives off strong TDU/3D0 NFS vibes, sure thing. The greenery looks great, the (two) car interiors I've seen look tight, if anything I think the roofline on the interior view is a touch too low. The Design/Paint Shop options were still closed to me when I logged off but I'll be in there ASAP. I'm looking forward to exploring more *late* tonight.

I'm still far too early into the game to say that every race has off-road parts -- but yeah, it does seem like every race has off-road segments. :| Furthermore, while the map seems open, there are walls that do limit travel. You cannot just look at the peak of a small mountain and drive there as in TDU; the walls exist, they're just really deep into the forests.

The Drivatar system irritates me; I see cars all the time with various peoples' gamertags only it's not them. The cars have custom paint jobs and everything, too. I wonder if there's a setting to only show the names of actual friends in-session? #probablynot

I got access to the Paint Shop but I did not see a menu entry for FM5 Designs like in the original Forza Horizon. Looks like I gotta start over painting cars...

I'm still far too early into the game to say that every race has off-road parts -- but yeah, it does seem like every race has off-road segments.

I did like four formal races last night (the first three to get me to Nice, and then a 4th) and PRAISE JEEBUS they do not all have offroad parts. Only one of my four did. I found it incredibly lame - game destroyingly lame. The other three races were a combination of circuit races, point to point races, and a Vs. Jets race. A-Ok.

Furthermore, while the map seems open, there are walls that do limit travel. You cannot just look at the peak of a small mountain and drive there as in TDU; the walls exist, they're just really deep into the forests.

Yeah, mixed feelings about that. I had expected a TDU "drive anywhere" experience and it's not that. I may be okay with it. FH wasn't less fun because of the walls, so FH2 will surely be okay from that perspective. I just wish they hadn't dropped the "open world" bomb, because it's not. Not remotely.

The Drivatar system irritates me; I see cars all the time with various peoples' gamertags only it's not them. The cars have custom paint jobs and everything, too. I wonder if there's a setting to only show the names of actual friends in-session? #probablynot

Embarrassed to admit, but I don't even know how the online interactions work. I assumed it's the same as FH - in single player, you only get drivatars. You have to do FHO to get "mixed sessions" or go to the online roadtrip hubs to get real live humans. I'm probably displaying my ignorance here - I really have no idea how anything online works in this game. I do know that I spotted your Maserati driving drivatar ass across the road and t-boned the shit out of you in a Local Motors Rally Fighter, though.

Anywho, I played for about three, maybe four hours. Drove a lot of roads, did a number of bucket list activities (which are a nice spin, IMHO), did a bunch of street races, did the aforementioned four events, and sought out some signs (XP and travel discounts) to smash. I got to Nice, but didn't do anything there. Raised 5 (I think) skill points, did a few XP level ups (spin the wheel), and bought a Rally Fighter, RS500, and a 2.3-16 (Cossies 4EVA!). Upgraded the Ford to A, and the Merc to S1. Smashed the Local Motors rig into said Maserati and then parked it.

Overall, at this early stage it seems fun like FH was. But I am far less impressed with the visuals that I thought I would be - there is a LOT of pop-in that, frankly, is embarrassing this late in the game. I think they added so much detail everywhere it's overwhelming and meaningless for the most part - and may be contributing to the pop-in problems. But the cars look good, sound good, and drive good (or, maybe, just drive as expected?) and there are plenty of places to roam around so that's a-ok. The game mechanics are a little weird - grinding for Cr/XP/SP all at the same time seems pointless - though I won't lie, spinning that wheel and going for BIG MONEY NO WHAMMIES isn't all bad. Managing the SP "tree" feels like a weird addition to a driving game. Money doesn't seem to be a problem, but it also appears they've done away with the smash signs for upgrades discount aspect, so I guess you're going to need the money. ;) Still, I've got five cars (won an Astra) and $250k in the bank, so whatever. I guess I don't have any expensive cars, though. Hmph. Whatever.

I found it incredibly lame - game destroyingly lame. The other three races were a combination of circuit races, point to point races, and a Vs. Jets race. A-Ok. Same here. Only 1 off-road mission so far. I didn't think it was that bad though. I do however think it should be limited to specific car types. They have SUVs/off-road trucks in the game, why not make these races specific for them? :? I don't want to be driving through a corn field in my Ferrari. :|

I do know that I spotted your Maserati driving drivatar ass across the road and t-boned the shit out of you in a Local Motors Rally Fighter, though.  That's what I've been looking forward to with the drivatar. :D It makes the races more exciting as well, seeing your friends times and their cars in the race. I am reminded of something regarding drivatars and the street races - it seems the "better" drivatars will take all sorts of crazy shortcuts to win. Since there are no way points, in an open world the shortest distance between the start of the race and the end is a straight line, and these jagoffs will make a beeline for the rough stuff to avoid having to turn. I challenged some dude in an Chally to a race and immediately lost track of him. I assumed he'd got turned around and stuck or something. Nope, he was barreling through the forest. In a sense, it adds realism to the game - if you challenged some 12 year old IRL he might do the same, but it really sucks if you're trying to keep things clean. You really don't have a prayer of a chance of the "more skilled" drivatars sticking to the road, much less the course. Not a fan of that - there is nobody with which to have a good, challenging street race with, it seems.

Oh, I don't necessarily disagree with that, I just find it disappointing it's essentially impossible to get any sort of challenging street race. The way the drivatars end up working you're either trouncing a "poor" AI driver thoroughly, or you're blazing a pointless trail across the wilderness. Why even bother have the GPS route you on streets when you can just point the car directly towards the finish and mash the gas pedal? Why just have the GPS tell me where the trees and walls are? More than disappointing, actually, it seems poorly thought out.

I have determined that the skill points thing is a hilarious joke. Five minutes with the S1 2.3-16 on an abandoned military base equals a 250,000sp dorifto festival. Sadly, one rogue drivatar in a Fairlady put an end to my first attempt. For the record, I drifted through three light cycles and two weather patterns. Time had no meaning! Subsequent attempts were less glorious due to less patience, however three epic chaining events led to three perk points (>300,000sp) in about seven minutes. I would have liked my Personal Best to be that 250k number, but I settled for 150k instead.

Did my first car meet, and IMHO they are a big improvement over the original concept. Car meets can produce online races, so I raced my 800 S1 Merc against a Lambo Veranimamanino with a 100 point edge. The game handicaps the better car by starting the worse car first, which is a nice touch. Sadly, I totally blew one turn and ended up half a second behind. I would have made that turn too, but the sun was in my eyes.

I finished Nice and called it a night without taking the road trip to whatever is next. Seems like the servers were having issues - races took *forever* to cash out and joining online sessions seemed really problematic. Not too upset - I've got work I should be doing anyhow.

Kid, Dennis and a special guest appearance by Boda Zen helped make things interesting last night.

Having hammered out that Morrison Motorsport C7 for Keith put me behind the 8-ball gametime-wise so I haven't had a chance to explore the game as much as the others. Picked up a few free cars but I'm bummed you can no longer sell cars; there is an option to remove them from your Garage but you can't sell them for in-game credits any longer. :|

Traction is also an issue as FH2 is more slippery this time around, IMO. This goes hand-in-hand with the fact that there has been a horsepower valuation increase, for want of a better description. Horsepower is just flat-out underrated in FH2. An attempt to kill the advantages of the high-horsepower-&-stock-tires crowd? Whatever it is, now my RWD cars are just blazing the tires off of the rims with even 300-400 hp! My B-Class Supra RZ is a crazed demon trying to harness its mighty stock 320 HP and is sliding all over the place. I've got a 432 HP '56 Ford F-100 with the 6.2L V8 Scorpion from a Raptor in it that just blasts smoke out of the rear wheel wells like Snoop Dogg was living under there.

It's more than just a setup situation (and I'm pretty comfortable with knowing how to setup cars in Forza after all these years), this is a serious change of the simulated definition of power. Challenging and, uh, entertaining I guess.

Are you talking about making an impromptu race? Because the championship off-road rally races all have checkpoints that if you ignore them, will re-rez you back behind the last one you missed. You can't just head for the finish, you definitely have to go through checkpoints.

If you open up a Private Road Trip or Open Drive, you will have all of the traffic: AI, Drivatars and other Players that you've invited. All traffic, all the time.

I was doing a shitty job as room leader last night: I'd leave Group GPS coordinates active while I'd work on my cars in my Garage, which then results in everyone's GPS Nanny hounding them mercilessly. :assclown: #mybad

But with a good Leader, alternating between Cannonball runs from race to race across the board, initiating races and challenges, and exercising GPS attentiveness, this title is really scratching that old TDU itch for me.

Also, making money on runs like this is very, very easy. Even in D-Class 1st place usually pays out like 30K credits and then 2nd pays out like 28K. Ridiculous!

Are you talking about making an impromptu race?

Yeah, just the random challenges. Not organized events. I'll sheepishly admit I used this to my advantage last night when I challenged a way-out-of-my-league McLaren in the aforementioned '03 red car.... I may have mowed some lawn to win.

Are you running with simulation damage or cosmetic? I'm doing the latter... but keep itching to try the former. I'm not sure what other difficulty settings I've engaged... As Kid can attest, my Supra is a sideways-sidling monster. All I've done to it are some Drivetrain mods (Racing Flywheel, Racing Clutch, Sport Transmission, Sport Diff set to 33%), I believe. MAYBE Racing Exhaust but I don't think so (will verify tonight). I am running stock width 18" HRE rims on stock rubber. Soft rear suspension settings and 26 psi in the rear tires for grip with a medium-strength rear swaybar to keep the big ol' Supra booty in check. Obviously need to take some more air out of the tires, soften up the rear suspension more and make the rear swaybar much more beefy. #iliveinoversteercity

So there was an issue with downloading the Launch Day car packs but still having to buy the vehicles? I found a workaround that worked for me: when you're in either the Autoshow or your Start Menu - Cars tab - Buy Cars button, you have to scroll over to the cars of the Launch Day pack individually. You should see the price for each car set to 0 CR. "Buy" these cars.

If you use the filter options and try to force the cars to shuffle from cheapest to most expensive, however, then the Launch Day cars will show their actual prices. Don't buy them that way, don't use the filter, scroll over to each car and verify that the price is 0 CR and then buy them that way.

Day 1/Launch Day car pack list
1956 Ford F-100
1968 Abarth 595 esseesse
1987 Buick Regal GNX
1993 Clio Williams
1997 Land Rover Defender 90
2003 Ford Focus RS
2012 Cadillac Escalade ESV
2015 Ford Mustang GT

So far, I've only really played with the '56 F-100 and the '15 Mustang GT.

I am seriously bummed right now - something is broken with my forzamotorsports.net account and photos I've saved aren't linked to my gallery... I have no idea where they are. :sad banana:

I have a kick-ass shot of my '56 F100 in a mad drift around that very Mustang. I am a little bummed that there is no option to include the gamertags in photos, as it'd be cool to see in some (like that one!). But. uh, that F100 is proving to be my favorite ride thus far. It's fairly well built up, but I set up the transmission to make 5th & 6th useless & have been driving it as a 4-speed. Feels cool. ;)

I've done a few barn finds, including finding the Willys. I did a little tuning on it and took for a test drive then, when going for the map, inadvertently hit the other button and challenged an Aston Martin to a race. I did what any sensible Jeep owner would do and set off across the fields. Redlined in 3rd gear I went bouncing across the wilderness at a jaw-dropping 77mph - oddly feeling really bad for the old beast. It was a photo finish, with the Jeep emerging victorious.

After a few days of playing I feel like they did a pretty good job with this game. It has its flaws, but it's highly playable and quite enjoyable. The drivatars definitely add a bit of crazy to solo game, and I'm not mad at it. Still, for all of its hugeness it doesn't seem like it's going to take that much to get through. I guess I still have quite a few championships to go through, but in terms of exploration I'm running out. I think I'm doing it wrong, because Anna keeps reminding me I have entered a championship that has not been completed. She's quite the nag.

"I’ve seen a lot of questions from community members about certain features and functionality on the Xbox 360 version of the game, including questions regarding DLC and Forza Rewards for the 360 version of the game. That is something that should have been made more clear like a year ago. The x360 version is totally neutered!

I was angry about the week one DLC, but became too excited about the Jag to care much. I used the $10 I got back from MS against the season pass, so it really didn't hurt that much.

And, yeah, it seems the drivatars use their actual owners cars, although I don't know by what rules. I've seen Novicius's C7 and the red/striped Mustang, but also an MC12 which I'm not sure he actually owns. Gives me great pleasure to think my old iron is what's out winning ~$20k a day for me.

Well, that's probably not exactly accurate. In order for us to have CDs in our hands on the 30th, the finalized game was probably released to manufacturing mid-summer. You gotta make CDs, packages, fill warehouses, distribution channels, and stores and that doesn't happen overnight. Assuming everything goes flawlessly, it's probably a solid two months between Gold, RTM and Release Day. Maybe three. That's a couple months for working on DLC, which has no such overhead involved.

Regardless, release day DLC is a fact of life. That cat has been out of the bag for many, many years.

I used to be in the same boat about all DLC, Jason.

But, I realized that it's better than in the previous generations, before DLC and patches. A possibly good game could be ruined because of a bug that couldn't be patched. Or you'd have to buy a whole new game to use a different car. I appreciate that we can now continue to expand the game and play it for years. Instead of having completely separate discs that aren't compatible or anything.

I haven't buy much DLC though, however. I am starting to change my mind though. I'd rather have one game/disc that has $50 worth of DLC that is usable all in one package, than have two separate games/discs that I can't play together and have to level up separately, etc...

And like TSG said, they've probably been working on them since the game was "finished" 3 months ago.

I saw that Byooooick at one of the car meets last night, but you were taking off just as I was finished loading. I ended up spanking an S2 Civic twice in a row with my B Escort 1800.

It's possible I'm doing it wrong, but after a lot of Forza it really seems that by design cars can't make huge class leaps without becoming largely worthless. An S2 Civic has gotta be impossible to handle in the turns and probably isn't ultimately that fast. I stopped trying years ago, and I've been much happier. I had 20 seconds on the Civic - it wasn't even a challenge. No worries - racking up reps for the [[[]]] club. ;)

Last night I was heading back to a hub to road trip to the next championship when I was notified that one of Horizon's top drivers was in the area. This is *the* first time I've run into a top drivatar when I actually had a car I had high confidence in. Usually, I'm tooling around in a B or C class car that's built mostly for handling and less for straight lines - but last night I'd just finished an A R5 Turbo. ENGAGE!

One of the achievements is something like "buy 20 cars in one month," and since I was camping on about $4m I spent a good portion of Monday night buying every single car of note under $100k. I don't know how many I bought, but I earned the achievement way before I was done shopping. I think I still have about $2m and so I started in with some more expensive stuff - a Ruf, a Countach, a KTM, and some other stuff I can't remember. I haven't bought anything truly expensive, but I'm not really that into most modern supercars - the supply of gifted ones is plenty adequate for me. I'll probably end up with some vintage-ier cars, but not until I've used up all the fun in the 60s-90s cars. ;)

My Buick put the hammer down on more than one TSG-driven '87 Trans Am race as well as 22B's driven by Kid & Swervo's Drivatars. :hard:

I always buy me a GTA and it's always a squirrelly bastard. ;) I don't remember offhand what class it's in, but I used it in that championship and it mopped up. You just have to be really gentle with it in turns or it'll completely betray you. Of course that's all fixable with tuning, but that wouldn't be terribly realistic, would it? I wonder if the drivatar cars are tuned the same way as the originals, or if they're just totally random stuff... I'm guessing random?

I just entered the R5 in the Retro Hot Hatch championship. I expect little opposition to that beast, though it's really brought to light the subtle changes (improvements?) they made to the physics engine. The behavior of its back end in turns and under power (and especially in turns under power) feels totally unique - what I'd expect for a 30 year old econobox that someone thought should have its motor in the boot.

novicius
October 9th, 2014, 01:31 PM
Yeah, I've got a tuned Racing Suspension, Racing Swaybars, Racing Brakes and wide 18" HRE rims on stock tires under the B-Class GNX. It rides firm and and handles pretty neutral, it just pushes wide for days.

Yup, there are things to the Online Road Trip/Free Roam aspects that I want to master but I'm coming up clueless to how to best do it. I see that there's an option for a Private Online Free Roam -- but can we still do Championships and work through our games while dropping into and out of someone else's Private Online Free Roam room? #noclue

But can we still do Championships and work through our games while dropping into and out of someone else's Private Online Free Roam room? #noclue

I believe the answer to this is Yes. The online/"offline" aspect of FH2 seems completely seamless. Last night I joined an online freeroam from a car meet and got bored pretty quickly, so I quit. Nothing changed at all - except the real life people I was driving with disappeared. Same car, same damage, same immediate need to Austin Powers my way out of an unfortunate drift accident. You can enter/exit random online "stuff" (races, freeroams, roadtrips) through various entry points on the map, or you can instantiate your own private session through the menu. I believe they both function the same, the only difference is the matchmaking (or lack thereof). I think the only thing you cannot do is progress your solo game in an online session - you can still do the championship races, but they aren't actual championships, etc.

::

Kid, Dennis, Boda & I did some Private Online Road Trips late last night. It was a good (but not yet great) time.

When you choose an Online Road Trip (Public or Private), you're selecting a hopper that is loading up a mini-championship of 3 races + 1 game-like event (such as King of the Hill, Infection, etc.) that you need to score Kudos (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Gotham_Racing_3#Kudos) to win. Finishing in 1st helps but you can overcome the 1st place bonus if you score enough Kudos. In between each race you will get kicked out to the World Map and cannonball to the next event/race starting point; the kudos you earn during this scramble also adds to your micro-championship point total. At the end, everyone votes for the next car class, you pick your car and then you're off on the next series. #kudos

Note that you only get one chance to pick a car for those four races/events and that's when you pick the next class of challenges. You have 20ish seconds to pick a car so pick that class of car quickly! Dennis and Boda both hung their cheese out in the wind for far too long and got stuck with suboptimal cars that made their experiences less than fun for those series.

We did not try Private Online Free Roam but I tend to think that that's going to be the best option for most nights: the Party Leader gets to manually set each destination point anywhere on everyone's GPS, whether it's a one-off race, an event or just to another town's Horizon party to work on cars. People can cannonball across the map, opt out and tinker on cars, cruise, etc. at their leisure vs. the forced launching that Road Trip makes you do.

It was good to try the Road Trip and clearly understand what it does (unending automated race series construction/selection w/. bonus money at the end) but it's rather frentic if you're not prepared.

I do really like that anything goes as long as it fits within the class. A, B, C, etc... It doesn't *have* to be a sports car or SUV. But, we could always self-impose those rules if we wanted to.

I agree that the Road Trips are quite hectic and a little too fast-passed. Maybe it would be fun to do once in awhile.

The only thing that I don't like about the private free-roam is that only the leader can start a race. :( So, if they're off painting their car, no one can do anything in the meantime. :|

novicius
October 10th, 2014, 07:09 AM
True. I'm just thinking of a more leisurely way to play -- after a few days/weeks, people should have a few cars for every class and then the Online Road Trips won't be so hectic.

Yeah, it must. My GTA is factory red. And I've run into a buddy of mine driving all sorts of cars he absolutely cannot have as he only has the demo. I'd thought/hoped your drivatar drove your actual cars, but I guess not - the times it appeared to must have been a fluke. It does make me wonder how it could possibly "map" my driving habits into anything with anything with a hint of understeer. I even converted my Sierra Cosworth to RWD (okay, the torque balance is 100% rear) for additional fun. Being a little slippy racks up mad skill points.

I still have nine championships to go, but I've knocked out the first batch of bucket list stuff, acquired all the perks, taken ~200 promographs, found all the roads, and... something else. I've been limiting myself to one championship and some hooning per session... can't have this game suck up my life.

I initially assumed that, but it doesn't seem to be the case. When I was driving around in primarily B and C cars all the other cars on the road were A+. I've recently been driving primarily A cars (the R5T and Z28) and most everything I run into is C. The world population *seems* random - but it could also be that in the early days there weren't a lot of drivatars to choose from. Maybe after a few weeks it'll sort itself out.

Totally fine with that... I'm assuming [GXTF] was de-invite-only'd. I almost checked last night, but I didn't want to blow anything up for the club or myself if it didn't work out. Can we confirm that the GTXF is open and we can all jump ship?

I honestly don't even remember getting an option about invites, I just set it to "friends only". I'm happy to set it to completely open if people wanted that, but I didn't know if we wanted a group that was pretty much only GTXers, in which case send me a friend request if I don't already have you.

I'd think Friends Only is good at this time -- everybody, send an XBL friend request to Swervo! :D

My buddy in the [[[]]] group is 98% of the way to the 500k achievement. Can you leave it open for tonight or tomorrow so he can finish it? Or maybe you could transfer it over? Not sure if that's an option.

Can friends of friends join? One of my friends from work (JaeP) and I play quite often and I'd like to invite him, if possible.
I was going to tell him to come visit the forum. But, I keep forgetting.

Yeah, I'm rapidly realizing this. I fixed my Supra's rear suspension (as well as a host of other cars) so now the rear-end won't step out hardly at all when cornering hard -- and it cost me last night in the Road Trip series. The only vehicle I won comfortably with is my still-ass-happy '56 F100. :assclown: #doh

I tend to tune towards neutral, but always build in some throttle-on oversteer. Sometimes you don't want steering correction to slow you down, but a little boot to tighten up a corner or earn some SP works pretty well. What I can't understand is why I am having such a hard time getting that result with the GTA... the Z28 is a masterpiece of this tuning, but the GTA switches between fidgety oversteer and insane pushing. Seems like if a 2nd gen f-body can do it, a 3rd gen should be able to. :|

I've got probably 6-8 hours into the game now. Really enjoying it, its a nice break from your typical racing game. I didn't play the first Horizon and also didn't play Forza 5. So its been since Forza 4 since I had a decent racing game to play. Really enjoying the NSX but theres so many good cars to choose from.

I'll be ready to Road Trip this week like a mofo! :D

On the upside, the Cherokee SRT has an 8-speed. which is a little hard to manage but really makes it snappy in those wacky offroad races. ;)

http://www.forzamotorsport.net/Handlers/GetPhoto.ashx?game=fh2&id=716645&full=true

It also brings some benefits when some trust fund baby in a Lambo mouths off.

On the other end of the spectrum, ginormous brakes are pretty useful when a VW pops in the wrong place.

http://www.forzamotorsport.net/Handlers/GetPhoto.ashx?game=fh2&id=734542&full=true

I stopped, but I can't say the ESVs were able to do the same. I've not seen any ambulances in in FH2, but if there were they'd have all been there.

Frankly, I couldn't get out of the SUV races fast enough and back into sensible race cars. Like 40 year old boats with big motors.

This is by far and away my favorite race to date. The second pass through Saint Martin in the US Muscle races in the rain. Hauling ass in an overpowered, undersafe car on a wet mountain road at daybreak is all win.

That Charger is quite the terror. I spent an inordinate amount of time doing the post-race rival runs and decimating ostensibly better cars. A Charger facing off against M3s and STIs is nothing short of hilarious to me.

Speaking of, another hilarious adventure was a cross-country road trip in a Rally Fighter:

Now that I've sorted out how to choose which championship in each city I've just been knocking out the Off-Road stuff so I never have to do it again. It's predictably annoying since it's often hard to tell where the next checkpoint is going to be, but I finally realized that it's pretty easy to get between events/do road trips by just pointing at the target and plowing through the countryside. Now *that's* pretty entertaining, except when you hit the inexplicably placed impassible guardrail.

They are terrible, aren't they? I guess I don't mind them so much for the trucks, but when I've spent significant effort building a track weapon and the road suddenly vaporizes I get pretty annoyed. I find zero fun in pushing a classic Alfa Romeo through the forest on a suggested, largely nonsensical route. It's not challenging, it's not fun. The least they could have done was kept these races to road *looking* routes instead of crashing through vineyards and such. This is easily the most disappointing aspect of this game. Thank Dog the rest of it is so solid or I'd have turned it off after the first race.

It might, but I think it's alone in the "Extreme Offroad" category, though maybe the Raptor and Ramrunner are in that class too? I can't be arsed to look. What I can say is that the Rally Fighter is REALLY twitchy on road, so any of those events that are mixed surface it might have a serious handicap. It's fantastic offroad, though, and on first blush seems better than the Raptor (which I drove in a showcase event one time).

Generally not really my style, but in FH2 I can't much argue. I have had more fun in the Z28 and my generic brand white label Challenger than any other cars. Although the Alfa Romeo TZ2 is, quite bluntly, brilliant.

I do really like that anything goes as long as it fits within the class. A, B, C, etc... It doesn't *have* to be a sports car or SUV. But, we could always self-impose those rules if we wanted to.
I wouldn't mind trying out self-imposed limits; if we're Road Trippin' and vote on whatever class and someone says "Muscle Cars only!" or "Hot Import Nights!" or "Eurobangin'!", etc. then we pick cars in that class accordingly. I don't care about other limits like AWD or wings or whatever (hell, there were AWD Mustangs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Mustang_(first_generation)#1965_Mustang_AWD_P rototype) and the big block AWD Jensen FF (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jensen_FF) in the '60's) but limiting by flavor might be fun for those of us running together.
