I'm well up for this if it works.

I'm also rooting for HP, glad to see the company (hopefully?) regain some of its mojo and reputation for innovation.

I agree. I miss old HP. It would be nice to see them with a genuinely innovative catalog again!

You know what else? It would also mark the return of groundbreaking 'MURICAN technological innovation. Far too much time recently has been spent on industrial design and shiny shit (Steve Jobs sucks cock in hell!), even if it has had some benefits. Intel's current 4th-gen Cores are hardly any faster than 2nd-gen Cores. This year's crop of Android phones are hardly an advance on last year's crop. We need some good old fashioned, hardcore, easily quantifiable and measurable technological leaps to take us forward. Not just BS like slightly smaller, slightly slimmer phones and tablets for 5 year-old kids to play Angry Birds on, or for my 2yo to watch Peppa Pig off Youtube on.

I'd be onboard with ANYONE coming out with some solid new ideas. I too am tired of the kudos for "I put it in a nice box." That's great. GREAT IF YOU'RE A TWO YEAR OLD. That approach was really neat for about a year, but I'm well over it. I want to start seeing things that make me think, "That is going to change everything." Don't get me wrong, we've had some of those things, but society is WAY to complacent with the new nice box approach. I want peoples' hair blown back.

HIGH FIVE, DESIROUS-OF-INNOVATION BRO

What also irritates me are the kudos from "journalists" and "bloggers" for BS like "Wow, the icons are LIKE, OMG, SOOOOO DIFFERENT THIS YEAR" or similar BS (e.g. Apple's stupid 3D icon effect). Nothing more than spit and polish being upsold and trumpeted as "OMG SO NEW WOW MUCH IMPRESS LIKE".

Something like this, if it works out, is the proper way to "Think Different". I want this to get to market so bad that it hurts. FOR REALZ

Also, FUCK UNBOXING VIDEOS, I think it's started this stupid trend of looking at packaging. This shit is revolutionary even if it arrives (safely) in a dirty, banged-up box.

A prime example of this trend is this stupid Galaxy Tab S launch: http://www.engadget.com/2014/06/12/samsung-galaxy-tab-s/

NO-ONE WHO'S BOUGHT A TABLET OVER THE LAST 3 YEARS GIVES (or should give) A FUCK ABOUT THIS SHIT

Really? Judging by my Galaxy S3 post Android 4.3 update, I'd think that people with 3 year old Samsung tablets might be in the market to replace their Galaxy device that's currently running like shit.

Sorry, should have made that clearer. Skinned Samsung stuff is generally crap due to the software, which is why people might want to upgrade the hardware to ensure that the bloated crap runs better. But something like a Nexus 10 is still more than good enough.

Hmm, Samsung actually doesn't offer very good support (if any) for my argument... Maybe because their tablets' software AND hardware are crap!

I probably should have said 2 years then. 3 years does take you to the Xoom and the iPad 2, both of which are admittedly out of date.

Tablets are blowing my mind, actually. It's not that long ago that if I said, "Your computer is shit, you need a new one for $500" people would make up all sorts of reasons why that wasn't in their budget. But these same people have no problem dropping the same or more on a tablet which they do less on. Nobody is running Quicken or typing essays on their iPad - they are using them for tumblrin'. Every day they're tumblrin'! I can acknowledge Apple's brilliance for tying computing devices to fashion, but people need to get over it. If a five year old computer wasn't upsetting you on the daily, a three year old tablet shouldn't be either.

I'm particularly miffed at this because I was reading an article the other day about some folks in financial trouble and one of the case studies was a guy who got buried under payday loans. Things were tight but going okay until he lost his iphone and had to pay $500 for a new one. At first I was outraged at the guy for making a bad financial decision, but the truth is that most people would do the same thing. It used to upset me when people would roll their car loans into new car loans to get a new car, and now people are doing that with mobile devices. That's messed up. People need to calm the fuck down, people need to not believe the hype. I'm a damned IT guy and I've got a two year old phone and a four year old Kindle and you know what? ZFG.

Anywho, people have bought into the notion that these tablets are revolutionary just like they've bought into the notion that CNN is for news. It's all lies. The average person's critical thinking skills aren't great.

Every day they're tumblrin'!

I'm going to say this a lot from now on.

Y'know, there is a lot of truth to that. My previous laptop lasted over 6 years before the keyboard died. As I was pulling all my photos and stuff from the HD to a back-up to put on the new computer, the HD locked up.

The laptop I purchased to replace it was 400 USD brand new. It is on year three atm, with no issues.

My cell phone was a Motorola Atrix HD. I have had it for nearly 2 years (contract up in Sep), and I cracked the screen on it. Did I buy a new phone. Hell no. I didn't even purchase a replacement screen. I borrowed my Mom's old slide phone from 2011. It has a cumbersome UI, I can't check e-mail or text worth a shit...but it works just as the phone should for making phone calls.
