The human eye is an amazing thing. And one reason why I agree with Dan Greenwalt when it comes to night racing. I don't think a game can ever truly give you the correct perception that you receive through your eye. It's why I don't think any hardcore sim has ever included it. It just won't come out right.

And I love the following video. I think I've watched it around ten times since it was released. I just can't get enough and I wonder why games don't include Goodwood. Especially games that have vintage cars. I'm guessing it has something to do with the rights to the track. PS, yes I know GT6 has the hillclimb and while that is cool, the track could be a great vintage racing venue.

Exactly. I'm not sayin they can't give it the old college try. I played one of the NFS: Shift games and it felt like I was looking down a paper towel tube with a flashlight on the end. In real life I can see way farther than the end of my headlights and its that fine resolution that is difficult to translate to a flat plain.

Anyways,don't want to distract to much from the original intent of the thread.

The thing racing sims fail to accurately portray about racing at night is how blinding everyone's lights are in your mirrors. Forward vision isn't done so badly - rFactor and GT6 are pretty good. It's been too long since I tried nighttime iRacing...

First vid reminds me of a British Rally years ago where Alister McRae had that happen intermittently throughout a lengthy stage. He had literally no illumination as it seemed that the entire external lighting circuit of his car (VW Golf iirc) was failing and, whilst he slowed down a good bit, he still seemed to be going really fucking fast for a car with no lights on.

Kinda hard to imagine anyone could have reaction time that fast, but I suppose if anyone were to have such fast reaction times, it'd be professional race car drivers!

And I love the use of the LCD to provide a rear view plus provide intel on who is behind you. So if you need to provide room for a faster class. Just so cool. Wonder if all slow classes have to have something like that....

I watched it a couple weeks ago while pondering what I might replace the XJR with this year, and found Chris Harris's comments about the 4-speed auto kinda funny. As much as I like the 500E, I don't think I could really, actually, enjoy one. The XJR has a very decent, modern 5-speed auto that makes it ok. Going back to an '80-tech automatic would get on my nerves quickly. So, anyway, great video, still not sure what to replace the XJR with - maybe I'll keep it til something strikes my fancy.

Just happened, so video might take a while, but check the MotoGP race start from Sachsenring

With weather conditions changing the warmup lap ended with most of the riders pulling into pits to swap bikes (for tyres)
I think there was only one starter in the first 3 rows, which are 3 bikes wide for MotoGP.
With that being the first row, the few remaining riders were several rows back.
Looked very lonely at the front!

Never seen that empty a grid!

I think it exists because the local government would be the one to stop it, and I'm sure it's a huge moneymaker for them, so unless the locals complain there's no one to pressure them to stop.

Sometimes it helps to fly under the radar when it comes to mainstream exposure.

In some ways it's nice to hear the pace notes but they may not be in English! Whilst I also love tarmac rallies IMO it's not 'true' rallying. I like seeing the oversteer, the countersteering and the quick tug on the hydraulic handbrake to get the arse swinging in the hairpins.

The Free Practice Session of the first VLN race in 2016 didn't go as planned. During the first 5 minutes of the Free Practice a Porsche Cayman GT4 crashed at the exit of the "Fuchsröhre" section, got thrown through the air and landed 30 meters further down in the forest. This video shows the last remaining bits of the car.
ATTENTION: The driver was OK afterwards!
