Yeah, I figured I'd see what you've got laying around the garage after I get the car. I'm living with a tape adapter/phone combo in teh BMW right now, so my needs are clearly not very great.

Whoomah!
I am deeply and personally offended.
Quick scan of Crutchfield--I guess the widespread use of Bluetooth audio has rendered the SD card obsolete? Didn't seem to be a ton of receviers with that functionality. Or is non-streaming music playback that old skool these days? edit: or maybe it was never that wide-spread a feature in the first place?
Whoomah!
If you need help with wiring information or anything, just let me know.
I have had my fair share of time crawling around on that chassis.
I don't think SD cards were ever very popular in car audio... I have an SD card slot in the JVC in the Fiero, but that's one of maybe four or five stereos I've ever seen that in. AFAIK they were all limited to 2gb standard SD anyway. A USB port has been the standard for storage for probably seven or eight years.
Also, while you can cram a double DIN in that spot, unless you really need a double DIN I'd go single. The install kit makes it a breeze, and you get little pocket below the stereo. JVC is the only brand worth looking at IMHO - every other brand has some sort of issue that makes a clean, basic install a PITA.
Yeah, I was looking at single DIN already. My main shopping criteria is dimming/color change--I really dislike the current fashion of eye-searing blue lights.
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_105KDX210/JVC-KD-X210.html <-- howzaboutdat? No BT built in, but separate brightness control for the buttons and display.
edit: looks like you gotta spend $100 to get a free installation kit.
Whoomah!
Yeah, $100 is the minimum. You might also look at Sonic Electronix. They tend to be a cheaper, though I am not sure how much cheaper than $70 a stereo can be!
I saw this the other day:

That's a very good price on that head unit, much less with the speakers. You'd still need the install kit, but Amazon has the dash part for $11, and the wiring kit for $7.

They also have that stereo for $1 less (albeit +tax) and the next version up with BT for $84. Personally, I think it's worth $16 to get BT in the mix.
Hmmmm... Sonic Electronix has the upgraded stereo with install kit for $89.

I think you can get a discount there using v.me or one of those other payment services... Shipping is free on almost everything, but there is tax.
might check newegg also.
That JVC does FLAC playback, too, for when I get around to re-ripping my entire CD collection. *cough*
From the Amazon reviews of the X310BT:
Comes in demo mode from the factory. I had to look up in the manual how to shut it off. It was bright, flashing, and looked like a UFO was landing in my car while I was driving.
Whoomah!
