It’s an oddly positioned card, the 3090. The reviews I’ve seen do praise its performance, but the pricing of it is a stinker. You really only want to buy it if you’re producing complex 3D or video content. But even then, theoretically two 3080s would give you more performance for the same price. I’d love to see that claim put to the test!

For the use-cases either side of content creation: it’s not up to scratch for research use as it’s slower than a Titan RTX in that specific purpose, and for enthusiast gaming it’s only slightly faster than a 3080 at 4K and will only juuuuust play some recent games at 8K with 60FPS using DLSS.

It’s just not worth it as a gaming card.

Two 3080 won't: Nvidia has already killed SLI and has announced that NvLink will be exclusive to the 3090.

Also it seems in CAD oriented application the Titan RTX is more capable than the 3090: it seems the new '90 has been built restricted in some hardware and software capacities.

    Hm.

So I really wonder what the point of the 3090 is. It should be cheaper by 1/4, with a Titan above it.

Dick-swinging? Since any sensible, non-ultra-rich person would just buy at the 3070/3080 level.

I may (just MAY) get a 3080 on a step up, and when they release the 20GB version, trade it in.

Considering the 3090, for me, isn't about status/dick-swinging. I figured it'd be the last card I'd buy for a long, long time. But I will continue to see reviews, etc, and suspect the 3080 will probably accomplish the same goal.

    AMD goes RT

    https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/d...ve-performance

    RX 6800 $579
    RX 6800 XT $649
    RX 6900 XT $999

They are intended to compete with the RTX 30xx series, with the 6900 XT offering 3090 performance for $500 less.

I will remain skeptical until there are some actually side-by-side tests.

Simple question (I'm a total ignorant when it comes to electricity): can I use black eletrician tape to cover the ugly multicolored end of cable in the Audio HD plug to the sound card and in the USB 2.0 cable? I find them aesthetically bad and I was thinking of wrapping up those coloured ends.
    Anything against it?

Shouldn't be a problem, just don't get it tight enough that it pulls the wires out of the connector.

You could, but electrical tape is messy and leaves residue.

Try getting some shrink wrap and covering as much as you can.
