    I reported this in one of the spam topics, but i'm sure vBulletin should have a way to counter spam effectively like the custom profile fields idea for phpBB.
    https://www.phpbb.com/community/view...f=46&t=2122696

    Custom profile fields (with questions/answers that can't be Googled quickly) have stopped 99% of spambots registering in my car club forums and GT forums. I was looking at the Who's online the other day, then later on that day/week, and saw that a guest (from China, or one of the regular spambot countries) was registering each time.

    But no new member ever appeared, as they couldn't get through.

    On my forums i have two (plus admin activation of new members) antispam measures (or more) in the registration screen;

    ANTISPAM: Type in the second bunch of numbers below: *
    540 457 785 369

    (anything other than 457 entered will epicly fail)

    ANTISPAM:: *
    Is 'house' spelled correctly here: 'houwse'

    (drop down box, with 'yes' highlighted, as the first option in boxes is usually what the bots would choose)

    And have a similar numbers one on my car club forums (different numbers) and this one too;

    Copy and paste the text, BETWEEN the asterixes, into the box: **CoOkIeS aR3 aw3SomE**:
    This question is a means of preventing automated form submissions by spambots.

    If vB can do this sort of thing, say goodbye to spambots.

    That's one way of putting it.

    Is there a way to stop all automatic user registration for now?

    Yeah, this.

    Just have a human verify all new memberships and email addresses.

    I like Skyline's ideas better, so Russ or whoever doesn't have to potentially wade through a metric ton of bot crap to find genuine people.

    Both will happen, I think. Moderated registration is the easiest. *flips switch*

    Couple of the spam accounts still look to be logged in. How is that possible?
