Jean-Francois Payen, one of the doctors who has been treating Schumacher, said in October that he could need years to recover.
“I have noticed some progress but I would say we will have to give him time,” Payen, who treated Schumacher at the Grenoble hospital where Schumacher was taken after the accident.
“It is like for other patients. We are in a time scale of one to three years, so you need patience.”
From the least sensationalist reporting of Philippe Streiff's words.

This is actually very good news. Still cautious optimism.

Read on another forum although not sure if it's true but their jet and one of their homes is up for sale and they're hoping for €25 million all in. I can imagine how that sort of care would be very, very expensive long term.

Certainly to mere celebrities and business men, but he made hundreds of millions. I would think they have more than enough liquid assets to cover any kind of medical care. I'd imagine it's more about practicality than a need to move money.
