    Playmobil set is supposedly offensive

What do you guys think of this?

Because this is clearly done in a historical context, frankly, I feel that anyone who is offended by this is just reflecting their own lack of comfort with the reality of history.

Sorry fellow white folks, we've done some terrible things to minorities in the past. Attempting to sanitize history and ignore past racism only results in our current problems, where we supposedly live in a "post racial" society that's in fact teeming with discrimination that's only expressed at a whisper level or quieter.

I kinda disagree....a 5 year old doesn't know historical context, and only knows the black person needs to have a collar around him, though they probably don't think of it any further than that.

Don't like black pirate slave guy? Put the thing on a white guy. Or throw it away. Or use it in one of the bedroom sets. Solved.

If people channeled all of their outrage into something productive instead of angry facebook posts, things would probably get better faster.

I'm calling it, mom goes in the mulcher.

It's a playset from Germany, a country that hasn't had slavery in several hundred years.

    It's pirates, not slave traders.

Do the rest of the pirates look as raggity? Assuming so.

One happens to be black, and happens to have a collar for whatever reasons.

Racist? No. Questionably poorly thought out? Probably.

As long as you don't count Nazi labor camps.

It's not racist at all. You could look upon it in a certain context where it may be educational.

However, it's a kids play set, and they definitely found that boundary that you do not cross.

You have to allow kids to maintain their innocence about the world in some ways, which is why Lego never puts weapons in their City themed sets, only the fantasy themed ones like Star Wars and Castle.
