    Not my track day.

Friend of mine attended a track day at Sears Point/Infineon/Sonoma on Sunday with CFRA, driving his recently rehabbed RX8. It was a wee bit damp! He's on NT01s, full Ohlins shocks, and a nearly new Mazdatrix MSP build with Mazdatrix exhaust and cat delete. Thought I'd share, because it sounds cool.

I almost drove out there to meet him - that car is absolutely beautiful to drive. The RX8 is good in general, but the dampers + the tires are pretty magical. I've not yet tried that engine (it's two months old), but he is happy with it and that speaks volumes. Something more than stock power combined with a light weight RX8 (it's a base model) seems like a great formula.

Bah, I've lapped SP faster than that in a LeMons car!

    * in the dry

** using the T9 cutoff and shorter T11.

    *cough*

That puddle at the exit apex of the Carousel is a sneaky one--glad he went around it!

I've heard really good things about Ohlins.
    Whoomah!

We use them on the GT-R, too.

    A green Sears Point!? Sorcery!

Looks fun. Lucky bastage got to do the real Turn 9/10 complex, too. Wish we ran that layout.

He said the NT01s weren't great in the rain and didn't offer a lot of feedback so it was a crapshoot whether he had traction at any given moment and took it easy. That was his fastest lap of the day, with slower ones ranging up to 2:30. My recollection is a good lap for me at Lemons, in the dry, with the shorter track, is about that same 2:14 in the Saab, but I am not nearly the driver my friend is, and I cannot get over a fear of three or four wide down the carousel. I know I always give up time there and I can't help it. *sigh* I seem to recall his fastest Lemons lap at around 2:02, but he may have broken the two minute barrier after the boost controller broke.

Here's his slow lap, with more traffic:

    Edit:

Oh, yeah, here's last year (literally a year ago) with the stock motor and a 1:58...

I am *pretty sure* the Lemons car is faster than his stock RX8. It makes at least equal power and probably weighs 500lbs less. Far less grip though, I suppose - older/weaker suspension and 215 Star Specs.

    Cool!
I've got a couple of videos of the boxster at Wakefield, must try and overlay the timing data!
I'm a rookie at this stuff in a car that's way way better than I am (or probably will ever be!)
But really enjoying being able to let it loose at the track.
And we'll... the car looks damn good even as others go past me!

What's the latest greatest software to use to generate that kind of graphics? Is there some kind of app for that? The phone should be able to just figure out speed and acceleration, right?

    Haven't tracked for a while...

    Cool video!
