I am reading that we dodged a bullet on that front, that people are now being advised to stay indoors as much as possible. It's due to nearby fires, right?

May be been posted before, but this:

Hopefully they don't harass us about this if we say we're not on social media. We were in the USA for a month and i never logged into anything online that whole time, i even left my cell phone back here in NZ.
Sadly, I'm pretty sure the idea is that they can look at your social media postings *before* you get your visa, so they can decide if they don't like you posted and then deny said visa. It's not at all about what you do on social media while you're here in the US.
It's also intensely stupid.
Especially considering Trump is seemingly against restricting Facebook features (live streaming) because it goes against freedom of speech. The visa social media thing is basically contradicting that.
I only really use Facebook, and don't get into anything political on it. I also don't use my real name anymore because i just don't trust some people on it.
Is this place considered social media?
I’d probably be in serious trouble with the us government then...
I guess they might build a list of FB etc accounts that are suspicious and if you match then its extra security.
The other end of the scale, if they dont like you and want to reject you, if you didnt give social media details and then they find you have them its an easy reason for instant rejection.
My lady came back from her trip with hand, foot and mouth disease. No kisses from me!
HFM outbreaks are pretty common in primary schools and kindergardens.
