I don't know if it is the price tag too... 329 euro in here.
Blerps I think your post about spending money on video games points more to the general disconnect between how much people complain about the economy and the government, and what their quality of life actually is. For example, Australia is among the top wealthy countries with an extremely robust economy and relatively low taxation, yet people and politicians still complain about government spending, about infrastructure, about interest rates, about dole bludgers, about the cost of healthcare, and of course, about teh Mooslims. All the while we're going shopping, eating out, being entertained, enjoying nature, and the actual problems are far smaller than they're made out to be.
I've spent many thousands of dollars on Lego and video games and motorcycles in the last few years. I have no reason to complain about the economy myself.
The infrastructure is literally falling apart in front of us, but hey, the Switch is doing well.
Basically what Nate said... so much in the US is a massive shit show, infrastructure, healthcare, education... generally the public services that most developed countries have aren't doing so hot here. BUT, we got toys.
Splatoon themed Switch accessories!

These look cool as hell.
And a Splatoon 2 + console bundle (Japanese version gets the pink and green JoyCon, the US version gets red and blue).

New trailer for Splatoon 2's single player story.
Such cool music. It always reminds me of Cornelius, so much so that I had to check to see if he was involved in the soundtrack at all.
He isn't.
