How is that news? Hasn't that always been the case with their online purchases?

No, it hasn't. You had to jump through hoops and have Nintendo re-instate your purchases if you replaced your console.

Yeah, easy on PSN and Xbox accounts, but Nintendo has been dragging the chain with this since the Wii started selling games online (which I think was even before Xbox Live Arcade debuted).

Luckily I've never had an issue with a Nintendo console, so I haven't had to deal with restoring purchases.

My Wii U died on me early on (right after Thanksgiving IIRC), so I must not have had any digital downloads at that point.

Go to https://accounts.nintendo.com and you can register your User ID.

Whenever I click to change the user ID it sends me to the change password page. Odd.
