Watch the new Doom game hit 200 FPS at ultra settings using Nvidia's GTX 1080
Nvidia boasts that the GTX 1080 is “a whole lot faster” than the Titan X, and is even faster than two GTX 980s in SLI, while consuming a lot less power. With this kind of performance, don’t be surprised to see the Pascal-based cards become two of the best-selling GPUs Nvidia has ever produced.
Id's developers said they’re still trying to fix some graphical issues with the game’s engine that appear when Doom reaches 200 fps, which they “weren’t able to detect until they had the performance of the GTX 1080.”

It's been a while since there was a big leap with GPUs... actually, it was a while before there was a big leap with CPUs too. These next gen cards seem like they may be that leap, although I hope someone mentioned to Nvidia that 1080 is so 2015.

"Nintendo is choosing to focus on the premium console market, and the new NX will debut in actual 24k gold with a base price of US$5000."

It'd be an interesting gamble if Nintendo abandoned the commodity gaming market for a serious machine. I feel like that's how it was back in the day - you could buy a $50 or $100 (don't remember) Atari, or a $200 Nintendo. Even the games were 2-3x as much. Selling a CRAZY system with a GTX1080 for a grand or something - double everyone else's price - it could work. All the people who love Nintendo's properties are old these days and "can afford it" - maybe they would.

I have heard that the next NVidia card after this will be a much bigger leap relative to its predecessor.

I thought the Pascal cards were supposed to have HBM2, or a mixture of HBM2 and GDDR5X??
