HDDMon (I think?) thinks my M4 128GB boot drive on the server only has 130 days life left (in fairness, it is nearly 5 years old and was at first my work boot and everything drive, then became my server drive). So I just got a new 850 Evo SSD 256GB to replace it. Life is good when we can pay less than USD100 for something like that.
It is absolutely crazy to think SSDs are that old already! I still remember my first 40gb drive I think I paid $200 for. More worrisome (for me) is that I have a small stockpile of 1xxgb and 2xxgb drives that I've been clinging to as in my head SSDs are still expensive. I am tired of having them around and was planning to sell them off, but I just looked up (like an hour ago) what a brand new Intel 240gb 5-series SSD goes for. $80! My pile of lightly used (like weeks) 535 240s aren't worth shite! The 120gb HyperX drives are worth... less than shite!Guess they'll sit around getting older for a while. It's not worth the trouble of selling them.
And it's not even worth RAIDing them all.
Hold out for nano-tube drives.
