I think a lot of the runner-ups could make a good case for being better photos than the grand prize one. There's so much detail missing from the horse photo that would have been so cool to have. But, I'm guessing it just wasn't possible to capture it under the conditions. Since it was a telephoto lens it was probably pretty slow, and the shutter speed is clearly pretty fast. I just wish you could see the whole scene better than you can. What did the horses look like? What was the guy wearing? All would have been nice to see. It is nice the way it is though, just as a silhouette shot.

They're very nice pictures of very interesting things.
The best ever in the NatGeo catalog? Might be selling it a little hard there website I've never heard of.
