So far (after day 3 of testing) it looks like Mercedes continues to sandbag. The other teams seems fairly close, except McLaren. Either they're sandbagging hard or they'll be fighting against last place with Sauber/STR/Haas (or the safety car which is much slower but is actually reliable)

Ross Brawn talking a lot of sense in this 20 minute interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7JnEGSsjRE

I particularly like what he says about working to create an environment that results in the 20 (ish) best drivers in the world, not the handful of best drivers in the world plus good drivers who provide backing.

Winter testing times show that the new cars are still behind the 2008 V8s , and further back from 2004 V10s (not sure how to compare the current ultra soft tires with what Michelin and Bridgestone had back then)

With testing times, or race weekend times?

I can't imagine any times in testing at that representative of what we'll see on race weekend. At least out of the top teams, and over whole laps.

Vettel ran a 1:19.0 this morning on ultrasofts, with him having backed off only on the final turn's exit (Vettel's ideal lap time, not accounting for the laps in which he backed off approaching the finish line, was a 1:18.781).
Massa ran a 1:18.3 in Friday practice in 2008 (the 2004 cars were roughly 2-3 seconds quicker at most tracks)

Back in 2004 one of (perhaps) the fastest attainable street cars was a 405hp C5 Z06, now it's behind the base Corvette
Not a fan of complex regulations that just slow the car down with almost no room for safety improvement (as long as they remain open-wheel open-cockpit)

at least the low body work and fat tires look hella nice.
