It is fun and can be a great way to commute - save time and actually enjoy the commute!
Probably wont save money unless you give up a car for the bike (esp here were registration and insurance are expensive compared to what you save in fuel costs)
And of cause you can do rides just for pleasure!!
standard warning - motorcycles are not as safe as cars!
But as much as people say "its the idiots out there", its actually mostly up to the rider. Be alert, ride defensively and you can minimise risks.

Thanks, guys. It has been 15+ years since I rode. With multiple cross-border moves, I lost my motorcycle endorsement on my licenses. It's easiest to just take the safety course again to get the license back.
She is not motorcycling to work to save money. She is doing it to burn less fossil fuels. If it were up to me, she would be riding her bicycle (7 miles, 30 minutes, one-way), but that is a whole other issue. Let's just say it is a contentious subject.
