Thanks Alan!
My brother in law just bought a brand new Civic hatchback with a turbocharged engine, but it looks a lot more sedate than that one. I should send him that pic and tell him to Pimp His Ride.
Pictures I took at the NY Auto Show.

I'm "ok" with most of it. But my two biggest, vomitous points are the ridiculous wing, and the quasimoto front fender humps. Omit the wing, and shave down the front fenders (more like the 2015), and I'd probably be ok with the rest of the vented hell of it.
The fenders remind me of an older generation F150 hood. for fuck's sake.
Honestly I think all the crazy protrubences make the new Civic Type R look better than the regular one. Like they've gone all-in on the fugly.
There are so few reasonably priced enthusiast cars in the US right now. If I was in the market I'd certainly consider it. For right now, though, I'm going to be happy with my paid-off car with 63,000 miles until I get used to my mortgage payment.
Man, I would not consider a $36,000 car to be a "reasonably priced car" in any sense. It's positioned against the Focus RS and Golf R, leaving the STs, BRZs, and even lower-spec V8 pony cars as cheaper alternatives. Hell, you can pretty much buy a 330i for the same price!
No one actually buys new BMW 3-Series... let's be real.
Around here, you can't find 330i with MSRP below $45k.
Which I guess isn't an issue for the typical lessee.
That's sort of the point... The Type is a lot of money for not really a lot of car. A 330i and a "stage 1" upgrade from anywhere would be *way* more car for the same money... and BMW will even pay for the maintenance. I'm sure Honda will sell Type Rs, but it won't be to enthusiasts. The $20k SVT vs. Type R vs. SE-R vs GTI was a legit battle being all about the same price and all about the same power:weight. The new Type R is bringing a vagina to a dick swinging contest.
